Roger Greenwood, presenter on Yorkshire Television’s Calendar programme, reportedly dead after cancer diagnosis: https://www.itv.com/news/calendar/2024-01-29/former-reporter-and-newsreader-roger-greenwood-dies-aged-75 I would probably recall watching him from my days in Sheffield.

Surrealist photographer Brian Griffin reportedly dead: He was apparently dubbed photographer of the decade for the 1980s. His album cover for Depeche Mode’s A Broken Frame album is reportedly an iconic colour photograph. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Griffin_(photographer)

Anyone do a search for this thread before posting in the Cricket thread?

Might come back. You never know. I think a year makes the calculations on my end horrendous. Hopefully my internet is up this week. If so, I might get shuffling in the summer!

I’m probably more interested in which big name gets added to the list of the missed because this guy was picked. I have said before, there are some more notable elected officials from a lower level who have national notability out with their health status. Asking the DDP guys to start differentiating just causes more dispute. IMO. Think it’s a hard one to swallow but hey ho.
-
I’d add that if I was still running the poker pool, I’d have been very reluctant to allow him. But a case could have been made. Annoying as someone said earlier that this guy QOs, while some notable performers or the like from yesteryear don’t.

Well we have certainly had a dialogue! Hasn’t happened in a while. Will it matter by December? Perhaps. Perhaps not. If folk look back at your team, will they know who the hell they were? Does that matter? Maybe things can be improved, I still don’t see how any rule change would alter the guy’s eligibility. I’m losing no sleep over it!

You know the rules, and so do I… Certainly fewer disputed picks who make it to the board these days. Wasn’t there some pop star who wasn’t even a pop star but had recorded something in their bedroom and met a real pop star who was allowed and scored? Tricky still for those running the game, unenviable task. I am personally content to allow expressions of discontent. But that won’t alter anything this year. Speaking as someone who has a bit of fun playing and untroubling the top end for years, I’m probably more concerned for those picking this sort than the overall game itself! I have always been of the view that if the bod is unlikely to be remembered in 12 months, they are hardly worth my time. If they are worth yours and the points you may or may not gain, that’s for you to live with. (General you, not directed at anyone in particular).

Malcolm Gregson, member of the 1967 GB Ryder Cup squad, reportedly dead: https://www.pga.info/news/malcolm-gregson-1943-2024/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Gregson

I suspect Bloody Crumble might have been his fourth team, if he were allowed it, lol!
-
I’m not arguing the pick was invalid or wrong. MPs generally have a national profile to back up their status. Personally, not a pick for me and I can still live with myself, crying into my pillow of pointlessness.

Another I considered and passed over for this year’s TOTP team. Must be awful being stranded in Zurich - though some consider it a gnome from gnome. *buttons up coat and heads for the door*
-
Interesting that if everyone in his ward followed him on social media, he still wouldn’t qualify as a pick as an internet celebrity! But I remain neutral!
-
My teams remain a gleaming ship floating on a golden sea of no points. (For which I am grateful). Meanwhile the dredgers are out collecting points a-plenty from the ocean’s trenches of despond. Early days. Can’t see me holed below the waterline until my internet is connected. Yes, still waiting!

Michael Watford, singer who appeared on house music records of the 90s and 00s, reportedly dead. https://www.instagram.com/juniorsanchez/reel/C2kYaNlOiDc/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Watford A few lower charting singles in the UK, reaching #53 with So Into You.

I hope all who picked him feel suitably rewarded one way or the other, ha! Points aren’t everything. Except in this game.

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

So many opportunities. The faithful were as brain dead as Harry really. Harry basically explained in so much detail about Paul’s plan, he should have been a goner. Then when Jasmine and Evie both coughed to being faithful, that meant the shield ploy was there for all to see. Mollie deserved her glorious tears. It is the end, if Jaz was a traitor why on earth would he vote to banish again? Every day did these people wake up and forget everything that happened before? Harry’s annoying use of innit and like really rankled. And probably the least deserving of the final five. But enjoyed it. -

Peter Bone Michelle Mone Lowered the tone When the votes are gone And then there were none. -
Neil Kinnock on the Newscast this evening. Looks good but raspy. Frankly amazed he has no thread, given the dynasty.

This is exactly how we miss Jane Birkin and Richard Roundtree tbh. Ha! ”Yeah, I’m gonna drop Judi Dench this year, what about that guy who tap danced at our local panto last year who has a massive brain tumour?”. I cast no stones but I’m also not going to clap those on the back for taking a risky punt. I shall forever remain Switzerland in the battles to come.

Not saying whether he should be allowed as a pick so much as the folk who picked him. I think @msc has it right. Take a deep breath through your nostrils and say “do I feel good about this or is it a chance for a points grab?”. Winning is for winners as I’ve always said. Playing the game with a full heart is much more rewarding! Ha!

Personally, I don’t understand the interest in this so called “celebrity”. Yer local councillor isn’t really on a par with Melanie Safka or even toothless from Deliverance on a national level. True, there have been some noteworthy local officers with some interesting achievements or infamy (Derek Hatton for example) but the guy who had a vote on whether your conservatory goes up…well, how did he pass the DDP sniff test?
