People said that 2016 was a really major year for celebrity deaths, but 2017 has done its best to keep that pace going
-
He was an old man, his wife was a lot younger and had only died less than two months before ... We will just have to see, it wasn't immediately obvious that it was suicide after Keith Emerson and Chris Cornell's deaths were reported.

Agreed :-(

People said that 2016 was cursed, but 2017 is much the same. Truth is there are a lot of ageing musicians and celebrities, some of whom have abused their bodies a fair bit through the years. So hardly unexpected that so many of them are dying!

Big name death in krautrock yesterday: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/sep/06/holger-czukay-bassist-with-can-dies-aged-79 http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/can-co-founder-holger-czukay-dead-at-79-w501368 Poor Holger, his wife only died this year as well, and he was found dead yesterday in his flat. If anyone has any doubts about his status as a legend, this video will crush them:

I'm late to the party here, but my honest feeling was that the next big name British TV show host to go would be Bruce Forsyth and I was absolutely right.

Good list and good research on your part Joey, and thanks for taking the time to do this especially since the 69-71 club was originally my idea. I personally would never have the time or make the effort to compile a list like this, just being a casual deathlister myself. A couple of favourites of mine - John Wetton of Asia/King Crimson and Chris Squire of Yes - were slightly too young when they died to be on this list. So who do I expect might we see on this list in the future? Possible names include... Phil Collins Ozzy Osbourne Tom Waits Rick Wakeman Mark E. Smith (but really it's a 50/50 whether he will die before then)

I honestly forgot about that site Sporcle.

Peter Sallis was quite badly timed happening on the same weekend as yet more terrorist attacks.

Not at all unexpected, but sad anyway. I'm eating cheese tonight. RIP to the voice of Wallace

Yes, but his level of international fame is not as high

James Bond 007 (Connery/Moore/Villains etc)
Weebl replied to Typhoid Harry's topic in DeathList Forum
Was Roger Moore the first actor to play James Bond to die, or just the first actor to play James Bond on film to die? -
I had him on my own personal list. He was in that "conspiracy documentary" Zeitgeist, that's the only reason how I knew who he actually was.
-
I know I'm late but who would have expected that yet another of grunge's icons would die by suicide in the 2010s? He had a wife and young kids too. Just goes to show that fame and fortune does not necessarily mean happiness. With Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland and Chris Cornell all dead, that leaves Eddie Vedder as the only major grunge band frontman still living!

Not sure about Dara, but I am sure that a convincing and realistic robotic Angela would be like the #1 selling sex doll in the world if such a thing was ever created
-
I was actually at the filming of Robot Wars on Sunday and I'm going again tomorrow. First time I've ever been to the filming of a TV show. Saw Dara O'Brien and Angela Scanlon as well as some of the more famous robots and their teams, was good fun.

It's very true what it says on the front page - too often the DL is accused of inappropriately celebrating the deaths of famous people. But for people who were scum anyway there's nothing wrong with being pleased to learn of their deaths, and that definitely applies here. Also, we needed another hit as it's been a slow year and particularly the last two months have been very slow for death!

Didn't realise he created Noo Noo. Anyway, some sad news about Rex. He's still alive but according to rumours going about on various forums he's suffering from dementia: http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/threads/13393-rex-garrod?p=465520 He's also Wiki-notable: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rex_Garrod
-
Cassius? Did you live next door to Rex Garrod or was it one of the other guys on the team? Garrod wasn't just a competitor in Robot Wars - he also designed the miniature car from the classic '90s kids TV show Brum. If you're of a similar age to myself you're likely to remember that one.
-
Who was that? As in, what robot did they have?

Allan Holdsworth, the greatest guitarist no one's ever heard of, dead at 70: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/guitar-pioneer-allan-holdsworth-dies/ http://teamrock.com/news/2017-04-16/allan-holdsworth-dead-at-70 No mentions of his death that I can see in mainstream news media, only on specialist music magazines and sites. But of course, he's not got "mass pop appeal" so he doesn't matter, right? The man was an absolute guitar genius. The bands that he's played in read like a who's who of 70s avant-prog - Soft Machine, Gong, Bruford, U.K., Nucleus, Tempest ... Could have sworn he was a member of National Health and If as well but apparently not! Will leave you with this video showcasing his excellent guitar playing!
-
He'll be around a while yet.
-
That really sucks, I'm away to properly discuss him more in the prog thread.
-
That music video is cheesy as fuck. RIP

Not necessarily as headstones can be put up long after a person has died! But yeah, she was the last person who was born before 1900, without dispute. There are two still left born in 1900 who are really the last remaining people born in the nineteenth century - since there wasn't a year zero, centuries start in the years ending 01.
