I was hoping to get a full grid this month before posting = less updates needed. But I like to get going too, so here is what we've got so far. Big scoring already with some obviously very black bananas being picked with V Goodwin and E Hannigan. Nice work, we are starting to see who the heavy hitters are going to be in this game. Remember, if you make a mistake with a rule violation (using a name in consecutive months or past use of a name at a given point value), i will not correct it unless it becomes a hit, and then it will be too late to fix it and no score will be given. Right now the grid is clean except for Prophet at the #3 slot, which can still be filled. Yes, we are active, and even have a hit already in March. It's you, with Gillo Dorfles, who was in your 2 pt slot in your second posted list. However, when you updated your first list to correct a rule violation, you moved Stefan KS into the 3rd spot, which resulted in another rule violation. So I am giving you credit for having dorfles at the 2 spot, pending a QO, but reinforcing the rule that when making a change to right a rule violation, only the name in violation can be changed, not the whole list. Who do you want in your 3 spot for March?

Prophet, you are struggling here. SKS is already taken at the #3 spot by Fixed Bus. He was ok at the #4 spot where you originally had him. Now he is taken at spots 1, 2, 3 and 5. A word about fixing your lists when you have a simple rule violation: Please just replace the name at that spot. Don't shuffle your whole list as I am creating a spreadsheet as teams are posted, and it makes more work to recheck for new violations. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Before any March teams start coming in, a word about the rules: Remember you cannot use a name in consecutive months. You cannot use a name in the same point slot that has already been posted for that month. And here is the rule that I may regret: You cannot use a name twice during the year at the same point slot. I can now see, as the game goes on, this rule is going to be extra hard to police. It would involve me checking everyone's new list against all their previous lists. Not too hard now, but in Nov and Dec . . . . . This is a rule that I am thinking about dropping for next year, but for now it is part of the game. So I am leaving it up to each of you to police your own teams and follow the 3 rules. I will only check for violations if there is a hit. If a rule is then found to have been violated, there will be no score and the name will not be allowed a substitution. You may substitute for a rule violation, IF you catch it before it becomes a hit. Also, do not forget that if you submit a team with a dead person already on it, no substitution allowed (the EXU rule). I am pleased with the point progression through the first 2 months. Scoring has been probably a little higher than I predicted, with 11 scores in Jan, and 6 so far this month. I think it is going to be an exciting competition toward the end of the year. In case I do get that last minute hit and advance, I will carry forward my Feb team with one switch: give me Kevin Smith in place of Lauren Wasser. If Smith can't hold on that long, gimme Jose Jose. Cheers. Wait! Of course I will also want to replace the name that dies, too! TBD . . . . . .

How very odd. I surely remember making the edits, as I did again just now. I must still be green around the ears and failed to save the edits or something. Unless it was all part of my dream with the plane and the cafe. Seems the real flight was carrying Catherine Nevin, but the cafe was hosting Billy Graham. Should be good now. Lots going on lately!! Fixed Business starts his climb from the dregs with another hit for 1 pt with Ken Dodds. My apologies for missing GCRep's big hit under V and also picking up the 1937 bonus for a total of 4 pts. We have a new leader! Young Willz earns 2 with Groning, making the 3rd place podium kinda crowded, for now.

Hard for me to believe I was the only one to have Nevin at the hard to fill letter N. I'll take the 4 pts and close within 1 pt of the lead . . . . . .

Finally I am on the board, also 3 pts for Youwanticewiththat. Many had given up on Catherine Nevin when she outlived her "months to live" diagnosis by over a year. Those with patience can now reap the rewards. Nobody had picked her in January. Above table is updated.

By the way, I have to stop drinking at night. Last night I dreamed that a plane carrying don lusk and clive james crashed into a cafe where beth chapman, catherine nevin and leah bracknell were having tea. No survivors. I woke up in a cold sweat and laughter.

I cannot figure out why my last post was just credited to The Unknown Man on June 6, 2017, but it was me on Feb 11, 2018. But what's done appears to be done and I don't know how to fix it. Carry on!

Indeed. See the grid updated on this page. Points from previous months are notated (5), points earned in the current month will be preceded by a +. So if you have both it will look like (4 + 2). Also, I am considering letting mad hatter2's entry in for Feb. If one of the two outstanding teams have not submitted a team by the morning of the 11th, I will make it official. Deathray and E. Souza would both still be in the competition, but the last of them to submit a team must sit out for Feb (no scoring). This will carry over into all the following months: the laziest (last) entrant will sit out that month. So it will be a league of 21 teams, with only the first 20 posting each month able to score. This will hopefully speed up the stragglers, and I may well be the odd man out in some months! Any serious objections?

I will update and refer to the above grid throughout the month of Feb. Looks very good, people. No substitutions needed that I can see - - the rules were followed perfectly this month (so far). I do have one more rule clarification that ALMOST was an issue this month. Yorkshire Banker had Barys Kit for 2 points in Jan, and missed his death by ONE day! He passed on the 1st of Feb, that date per wikipedia. I had him on my draft Feb team, but for whatever reason subbed in illustrator Don Lusk at the last second before I posted my team on Feb 1st. If I had left Barys Kit on there, the question would have been did he die before or after I posted? So to avoid that mess in the future, anyone who gets a hit on the same day that they posted their team WILL NOT COUNT that hit, but can be substituted. That's my plan. I still have two teams to declare their Feb lineups, but I was hoping to post the grid by the end of the day. I also have a new entry, so if Deathray or Ericles Souza drops out for some reason, I may let the newbie in as a replacement. It is not too late in the season to catch up and be a contender.

Ouch! I'm afraid I am going to have to lock that one in for the month. Such a mistake from our second place team was not expected, but you have a 5 pt handicap this month EXU. Leo passed in 2016, I remember it well. It was the big year for rock n roll titans to go out, although I would argue that last year was just as bad with Tom Petty, Chuck Berry, Glen Campbell and Fats Domino. I am sure you will overcome this misfire and still place well in the overall competition. Note: This was my response to EXU's personal message of his team to me, before I read all the postings that occurred after his embarrassing error. I did not expect this to happen, so I didn't specify the penalty from the get go. But as commish I feel there should be some penalty for sloppy play, and it probably will not hurt EXU much in the long run (and not at all unless Rupert Murdoch dies in Feb).

Good eye, oldlady! Again, page 2 scores are updated. And let me take this opportunity (with Jan winding down) to restate some rules for the submission of Feb teams. Cap and Quim had questions about submitting Feb teams early - yes, you can, but once posted, your Jan team is sent to the bench and no more scoring can occur, including the double points which would be awarded with a Jan 31st hit. With Quim's outstanding 8 pt lead I can see where he might be willing to take the risk! You will have no opportunity to score until Feb 1, but your new team is locked in and no one else can use your players at your same point position for Feb. Note one other important rule - - you may not use a player in consecutive months! So for Quim Reaper: Bracknell, Sobral and J. McCain must sit out until at least March. I would like to post a master grid by around the 3rd to the 5th of Feb, so I hope everyone can get their teams in by then. If there is too much dawdling, I may have to set a deadline in later months, after which I will post the grid and no new teams will be accepted for that month. But that may not even be a problem . . . .
