Not your typical immortal type of pick but surely Steve Gleason and OJ Brigance qualifies as an immortal at this point right? They’ve had ALS for well over a decade now, with Brigance in particular being in his 17th year next year

You really don’t know what you’re talking about at all. They only posted “a day later” because Lightfoot’s death was announced late in the day and it’s already the next day in the UK.

There was no delay in Lightfoot getting an obit.

Yeah, he’s done for in the next 48 hours. He got what he wanted (ie to outlive Rosa and attend her funeral). Now that’s over, he’s ready

That really means jack shit, especially since there’s still over a month left to go

You called it. He did it for a smokeless stove ad and is still smoking weed as per usual

Likely to die maybe, but a rather minor figure musically. Nowhere near as important as Mark E. Smith and Genesis P-Orridge were in their fields.Maybe it’s a US/Generational Gap thing but I definitely wouldn’t call the Furs rather minor. The fact that John Hughes named one of his films after a Psychedlic Furs hit (as well as use the song in said film) proves they have at least some sort of major presence in pop culture

I definitely think Psychedelic Furs guitarist John Ashton would make an excellent pick for the Deathlist. Stage 4 cancer since 2021 and he’s the exact type of cult music name that the committee loves to pick. Honestly feels like a match made in heaven

Well it’s that time of year again where we all suggest names like the greatest Mexican cartel member to live in New Mexico and such and get suggestions promptly ignored anyways. So who do you think should make the list in 2024?

If Rosalynn didn’t die I would definitely think Carter has a real chance of seeing the year out but now I kinda think it’ll be a miracle if he lasts another week…
Tbh it’s actually Shane I could see sneak into 2024.

Can’t believe he didn’t make it to his 24th birthday.

Smith were on it some years ago.
Psychedelic Furs definitely are a bigger name than The Fall or Tragically Hip were

Normally I wouldn’t open up a thread for someone like him, but as I am planning on going on dead pooling hiatus soon and I really don’t want him to be forgotten about in the dead pooling realm, I think this is a good farewell gift.
So for those unaware, John Ashton has been battling stage 4 prostate cancer for the past couple of years, and while on paper he doesn’t seem to be doing horribly, he also doesn’t seem to have the miracle treatment that Andy Taylor had with his cancer. And I’m still getting similar vibes with him as I did with Sylvain Sylvain when I picked him in 2020 and foolishly dropped him in 2021 (although admittedly my dead pooling instincts might be a bit rusty given my motivation for it has been all but wiped right now).
I definitely think he should be considered for pools, and could even see him as a cool death list pick. I’ll make sure to advocate for him to appear on the list next year assuming he’s not a hit in the next month and a half…- 4

Yeah from the brief glimpse I got of her she reminds me too much of the cancer bloggers like Lisa McGill in the old days

Advent Avalanche Form Guide #1
As the former host of this pool I would strongly advise people to look into Rick Davies. He would really be an excellent pick for these games

Note, I am planning on to mostly retire from dead pooling at least for the time being (I’ll submit the gag Hartlepool team I usually do and my 60s counterculture theme team but those are the only things that I plan on entering). Which means I won’t be opening a thread for the advent Avalanche this year. Fortunately this is an extremely easy pool to run so I’m sure someone can open one up to continue the tradition
