The principal damage from hurricanes is economic, these days. More a case of destroyed/damaged homes, destroyed/damaged property, destroyed/damaged places of employment (be they factories, offices, harbours, hotels, hospitals, farms, warehouses, or whatever), and a generally traumatised population than actual deaths. And impoverished people in unstable circumstances tend to have more children earlier in life, because they lose the luxury of being able to put having kids off and plan for the future; instead, of necessity, having to live more for today. So in addition to all the suffering they cause, hurricanes are going to do diddly squat to address overpopulation.

Because then either we'll have entirely ripped up our alliance with our neighbours in Europe by exiting with no deal, or we'll be tied into some new deal and plan.

To be fair, the East Coast of the USA has historically very seldom been hit further North than Florida; Hawaii is likewise seldom hit; and the Caribbean is, I'm told, a very pleasant place to live the vast majority of the time. I don't know so much about the Phillipines. Plus, in this crowded world, if people were to move out of all the areas threatened with the occasional natural disaster, where exactly would they all go? Nevermind that the country with the highest life expectancy on Earth (Japan) is very frequently hit by earthquakes, typhoons, tsunamis etc; it's just that they generally build and prepare well to withstand and respond to such events.

Within the next few days, it's forecast that we'll be seeing: - A category 5 typhoon clip the northern end of the Phillipines, causing flooding and devastation, before moving on in the general direction of Hong Kong - A category 4 hurricane hit the East Coast of the USA somewhere around the Carolinas, causing further flooding and devastation that may well extend to Washington DC - A tropical storm hit the Leeward Isles in the Caribbean - A tropical storm hit Hawaii. http://untamedskies.com/tropical-cyclones/ Lots of people are set to lose their homes this week, in short. Some will lose their lives. It's going to be a rough one.

April next year might be a bit late, though.

It is a fascinating thing to watch the government twist and turn on the contradictions of Brexit. Trying to sever ties with half of our allies and all of our neighbours without losing the benefits of that alliance, and trying to hold onto the benefits of that alliance without ending up with Brexit in name only. Trying to take back control of our borders without actually putting in more border controls or closing the border with Ireland. Trying to seem "strong and stable" when people to left and right (but mainly right) are jumping ship. Sadly, this will likely end with the hard right of the party taking power under someone like Rees Mogg or Bojo, and then the dark comedy of our times will turn still darker.

If it helps, I went for a bet hedge by picking a few of them in the new Inverse dead pool. So now they might start dropping like flies just to spite me...

Small silly analysis for this month: if we have only one death, the following deathlisters could be knocked out by the following picks (since they have ranked them higher than any other player has): Theoldlady: Barker, Channing, Downs, Shultz Wormfarmer: de Havilland, Lynn, Redstone, Day, Nakasone Madhatter: Ricketts Unknown man: Gilbert, Reiner, P-orridge, Ferlinghetti Skinny kiltrunner: Frates, Pei, Ricksen, Jaffee, Mercier Clorox Bleachman: Bracknell, Douglas, Lima, Anh, Overton Quim Reaper: Rogers, Escheverria, Cruickshank, de Cuellar, Lear Bibliogryphon: Nobody (well done!) Msc: Philip, James Grim up north: Jose Jose, Stiles Sir Creep: Stevens, Gascoigne En passant: Kumar Captain chorizo: Cardin John Key: K Johnson, Norden Joey Russ: Nolan Qtips: Dole, Greaves Paddyfool: Bush

Minor mistake to point out: you've written "Barder" down under unknown man. I think you mean Barker?
-
Kudos for digging up that info on my pick! Generally he's very healthy-looking for his age there, aside from some good going ear creases (which can be a marker of cardiovascular disease, oddly enough).
-
My list has been swapped with qtips' in the list above. EDIT: Thank you for fixing this!

I've gone for a theme list: Paddy's Political Grey Area Queen Elizabeth II Robert Mugabe Jimmy Carter Bob Dole George HW Bush Javier Perez de Cuellar Henry Kissenger Prince Phillip Le Duc Anh Yasuhiro Nakasone

Simple forum game: answer and ask random death related questions. Answer the question from the poster above, and follow up with a question of your own. Question 1: Death comes for us all. The World Health Organisation are among those who measure how quickly it comes, and their 2015 life expectancy at birth statistics would indicate it comes sooner in Mexico than in the USA, and sooner in the USA than in Canada. But is the USA closer to Mexico or Canada on this index?

I've only seen eleven, myself.

4 out of these 10 have fallen so far, 6 still hanging in there...

Depends on which historian you ask, and what share of the responsibility you attribute for which events that occured under what empire's rule, but arguably the British Empire (principally but by no means solely on account of famine deaths in India). The Mongol empire would also be up there, though, as would the USSR, the Third Reich, and the Spanish empire. The LD50 is a measure of how lethal a substance is based on the amount you'd have to give to kill 50% of those receiving it. Based on this metric, which of these substances is the most lethal? 1) Black Widow spider venom 2) Black Mamba venom 3) Botulinum toxin [botox] 4) Brexit

Actually, it's Mexico. Mexicans die 2.6 years younger than Americans, but Americans die 2.9 years younger than Canadians. Your turn to ask a question.
-
Perhaps it might be simpler to have a shorter list, eg a top 10 knights / dames, and the first person to get all ten wins? No real need for the subcategories either imho. Not that I'm offering to run it...

A fine illustration of the power of a good landmine to upset the order of things. And with 16 teams less than 20 points short of the leader, this could still go lots of different ways (although I expect one of the current top 5 teams will take it).
-
What are the odds that one or more of the lesser-known people on this list are already dead, and nobody's reported it?
-
Yes, I doubt all my team will obit. But it's just the most appropriate film (after A Matter of Life and Death, all of the remotely notable cast of which are dead).
