  1. Fantastic I was just thinking how strangely placed that quote was before I read your comment!

    World's Oldest

Lovely. She clearly makes people around her happy too.
  3. Sir Ed Davey has been elected leader of the Lib Dems. So glad that privately educated men in their 50s are getting some long-awaited representation at the forefront of UK politics. Still, at least Tory Remainers now have someone to vote for.

    WTF is happening in London?

Normal for Islington. It’s a local greeting there. The right etiquette is to provide loud and excitable running commentary, like it’s the Grand National or the World Cup final. EDIT: ‘World Cup Semi’ would’ve worked better.

Sickest game in the world (parts 1&2)

Oh give everyone else a chance to catch up, fuck sake Probably because they aren’t doing what we are, which is not count a lot of the deaths. We exclude from the tally people with existing illnesses, people who tested positive 28 days or more before their death, care home residents, NHS workers, people who’s name begins with a letter in the first half of the alphabet, people who’s star sign has a negative horoscope...

    A Joke

The only nun joke I had at school (in the mid-late 00s) was: What do you call a nun in a wheelchair? Virgin Mobile.
  13. The bassist Chris has done lead vocals on two of their songs. One of them (this one) came on earlier. The other one’s on the same album.
  14. When I’m the only one in the factory, this sort of thing plays. Loudly.

    The Happy Birthday Thread

Many happy ones! You’re exactly a year younger than snooker’s Steve Davis and a year older than acting’s Mark Williams.
  16. So, very quick summary of the governments of the countries mentioned so far: Denmark: Socialist, but without the negative Corbynesque side effects. Led by Mette Frederiksen, her government is basically a big coalition bloc of left and centre left parties and seems to be doing well. Canada: Led by Justin Trudeau. Everyone loves him when he’s not blacking up. Centre-left, big on inclusivity, has brought some very progressive reforms to the country and is very popular. Uruguay: Used to be Social-Democratic, but newly elected leader Luis Lacalle Pou is a Conservative Nationalist. Was a case in the last election of right versus far right. He doesn’t sound too dangerous. Japan: Shinzō Abe has been the PM and president of the Lib Dems for what feels like a century. Lib Dems over there have Conservative ideologies, and his ‘Abenomics’ fiscal strategy obsesses over growth. Much like most things in Japan, it just seems to work without complaint. Saudi Arabia: King Salman and Crown Prince MBS run this brutal, authoritarian country which appears to be anti-most things. The Crown Prince has made some efforts to modernise their attitudes, in that women can now get in the drivers seat of a car without being stoned to death. Thailand: Unitary state led by a military junta, namely General Officer Prayut Chan-o-cha. They promise reforms to reduce tensions, clean up corruption and distribute state funding equitably. Top army brass is extremely wealthy (funny that) and state censorship is rife. Quite reminiscent of Animal Farm. Poland: Andrzej Duda has been President for a party called PiS for 5 years. Piss describe themselves as Conservative Nationalists and Christian Democrats. Very anti-LGBT. Friendly with Donald Trump, not so friendly with his own judicial system. Iceland: The Prime Minister, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, leads with a coalition between her Left-Greens, the Progressives and the Independents. So now what you have is a government with Left, Centre and Right influences which, apart from her wanting to withdraw from NATO and keep away from the EU, is stable and works well. Czech Republic: Miloš Zeman was their first President to be elected rather than selected. Apparently a Social Democrat, but proven to be very populist and divisive. Likes war and hates LGBT advocacy. His Prime Minister Andrej Babiš is a businessman who’s no stranger to fraud, intimidation of opponents and blaming all problems on immigrants.
