    Doctor Who

Aside from the crude design, they move like drunk marionettes. I honestly remember the animation in '90s kids classic ReBoot being better.

    Doctor Who

I've found the animated reconstructions of the wiped episodes to be generally of decent quality, but then there's episode 3 of The Web of Fear

    Donald J Trump

For anyone thinking that Trump can't do much damage domestically, you might want to look up Project 2025. It's not a shadowy conspiracy theory, it's a think-tank crafted blueprint for overt totalitarianism that's had glossy press events and publicity. Tufton Street on steroids.

I'd say he was one of the fucking morons.

    Donald J Trump

I've yet to see anyone articulate what Haley stands for. She's undoubtedly Not Trump, but is there anything beyond that? The people of South Carolina presumably know more than most, so how she does there will say a lot. If she makes it, of course. Personally the idea the nominee will be anyone other than Trump is fantasy.

They seem to truly believe that yet another new leader and being even more rabid about small boats/Rwanda will solve all their woes. Do they not do polling anymore, or is it just a skim of the Daily Mail and Telegraph comments?

Samantha Fox taken off a flight and detained overnight for being drunk and disorderly before it even took off.

    19. Clint Eastwood

No shame in that, I'd say he was the least famous of this group. At first glance he also looks a bit like Peter O'Toole when the latter wore a beard. Douglas and Harvey actually came from the same broad ethnic background, Yiddish-speaking Russian Empire Jews (Douglas' parents were from Belarus, and Harvey was born in Lithuania).

    19. Clint Eastwood

Cheers! I was 95% sure it was MacMurray, but he seemed an odd one out, and the somewhat similar-looking Fonda was in Firecreek with James Stewart around this time. Eastwood and Marvin would hve been filming Paint Your Wagon together, and Hudson and Wayne The Undefeated.

L-R we have Lee Marvin, Clint, Rock Hudson, Fred MacMurray or Henry Fonda?, John Wayne, James Stewart, Ernest Borgnine, Michael Caine, and is that Laurence Harvey at the end?

Yes, it's not like anyone ever refers to Whitehall/Westminster, Holyrood, Washington, etc. etc.

    Alan Bennett

To add to this, he would also narrate a version that was posted every year on the LRB YouTube channel. Similarly absent.

The SNP have many of the same issues as the Tories. They've been in power too long (17 years), they have their share of scandal, they've run out of policy ideas and parliamentary talent, and they have a leader who isn't very strategic or popular with the public.

    Alain Delon

Not sure how his wheelchair use would affect his face, but regardless, could his youthful looks possibly have something to do with the fact that he's Alain Delon?

He's getting some attention. Clickbaity BBC News article today about the current situation with Delon and his family: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-67991657

    Queen Margrethe II of Denmark

I mean, you had a man dressed like a tin soldier standing on the balcony of a vast palace in front of thousands of people, so it wasn't an entirely dry bureaucratic event.

He just keeps coming up with these totally unforced errors that chip away at what little regard the public and his colleagues hold him in.

    Queen Margrethe II of Denmark

Danish monarchs have been proclaimed since the 1840s. Like most of the surviving European monarchies, they don't do UK-style coronations. The Belgians don't even have an actual crown.

No offence, but I think most of us think your family are reactionary cranks.

@harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy, you were my first thought when I saw it. Can you casually mention Trump and Musk in a few threads now?

I'd throw in William Orbit, who decided to take up drugs in his early 60s. Ended up having a breakdown. Now 67 and seemingly recovered, but he looks really haggard. Interview in which he discusses some of his issues in depth: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/nov/19/madonna-drugs-and-helicopter-trained-dogs-the-dark-starry-life-of-william-orbit

    Doctor Who

New year, new doctor. Now working my way through the Patrick Troughton stories (currently The Faceless Ones). He's not one I was previously very familiar with, which I put down mostly to him being the main victim of the wiping policy. I know he was my mother's favourite doctor, and I am enjoying his take on the role, but it seems funny that I'm experiencing him far more as an animated character courtesy of the recreations. Will I take to the real man as much?
