He died after an airline gave him anticoagulants during his trip to Japan, where he had two concerts 2 days before his death. This caused pulmonary oedema and then respiratory and heart failure.

    French Deathlist 2024

22th of may 2024 Hit n°11 Pom-pom-pid-out ! Marie France Garaud, advocate and french politician has died aged 90 to provide our list with a second may hit. Garaud was born in 1934 in Poitiers were she first worked as an advocate in the 1950's. Her political career began when her law teacher who was appointed minister under Charles de Gaulle, chose her as a part of his cabinet. She made friend with Simone Veil and then followed Georges Pompidou and helped him prepare his candidacy for the French presidency. After his election, Garaud worked as a private consultant for Pompidou, being one of the most influential women of the Elysee. In 1972, her and Pierre Julliet, another consultant of Pompidou, persuaded him to fire Jacques Chaban Delmas (at-the-time Prime Minister), one of Garaud's numerous coup d'éclat. In 1973, the American magazine Newsweek even presented her as the most powerful woman in France and Pompidou was said to be so irritated by her power that he removed her from his cabinet by appointing her at the Cour des Comptes. After that, she moved on to become one of the most influential support of Jacques Chirac, acting, again as an éminence grise during his campaign for presidency and his whole mandate. After being evicted of Chirac's circle thanks to the intervention of Bernadette Chirac, Garaud stated "I thought Jacques Chirac was made of the marble that statues are made of, but he's actually made of the earthenware of bidets". Afterwards, she ran in the 1981 presidential election but ended up second to last in the poll. During her career, she embodied the conservative part of the Republican right, opposing the abolition of the death penalty and expressing reservations about the legalization of abortion. In her later years, Garaud suffered from supposed Alzheimer as it was revealed in 2020 when a call for witnesses was launched after her disappearance from her Castle. She thus was duly selected this year at number 28 on our list, becoming one of the most promising candidate. We made no mistake as Garaud already scores the eleventh hit this year. We hope the following months continue to be as productive !

    French Deathlist 2024

Not sure about the fact that their absence means they’ll die though. my feelings are : 80-100% chance of scoring : Bernadette Chirac, Edgar Morin, Roland Dumas, François Cheng, Jean Pierre Léaud, Jean Paul Guerlain 60-80% chance : Catherine Laborde, Charles Bietry, Alain Delon, André Chandernargor, Jean Marie Le Pen, Françoise Hardy 50% : Gérard Mulliez, Brigitte Fontaine, Marthe Villalonga, Jean Pierre Serre, Raphaël Geminiani I’d say the likes of Bardot, Line Renaud, Renaud, Jodorowski, Pagny and others are safe for the year I think we can reach 18-19 but I doubt we’ll make it past 20…

    French Deathlist 2024

6th of may 2024 Hit n°10 Le roi Lire est mort Bernard Pivot, prominent TV host, journalist, writer and literary critic has died aged 89 to propel the score of our French deathlist into the dozens. Pivot was born in Lyon in 1935 and studied law before moving to Paris to pursue a formation in journalism. After having worked for Le Figaro, Pivot created his own literary journal called ''Lire''. He then moved on and became the host of the literary TV show ''Ouvrez les Guillemets'' from 1973 to 1974. That latter year, he founded the TV show ''Apostophes'', in which he received such famous and acclaimed writers as Marguerite Duras, Milan Kundera, Vladimir Nabokov or Françoise Sagan. The TV show ended up being one of the most famous program of the time and attracted 2 to 3 million viewers every Friday before its end in 1990. The next year, Pivot hosted another prominent cultural show called ''bouillon de culture'' in which he received figures of the literary, artistic, political and sport worlds. This illustrious program came to an end in 2001, an event which contemporary academician and historian Pierre Nora described as a "national mourning". After his successful TV career, Pivot was elected as a member of the Academy Goncourt, one of the most prestigious french literary prize : he then succeeded Edmonde Charles Roux as its president in 2014, an occupation he kept until 2019. During his lifetime, he also founded both the French Spelling Championships and the World Spelling Championships which came to an end in 2005 and wrote several books about literature, dictionaries and the experience of the reader. After his retirement in 2019, he experienced a period of ill health ans succumbed to a cancer while being picked at the 18th position this year.

All my friends are really involved in my deadpooling activity, is that your case too ? Anyway, they’re sometimes breaking the News of someone’s passing before I even know it. I let them know that from now on, the one who breaks the news the most during the year (before I know it ofc) will get a chance to put one celeb he/She wants into my list. Would be fun, we’ll see. We’re currently in a tie between 3 people

    French Deathlist 2024

big death and sad one yes, but not to forget that his show was the main platform for peadocriminals (fellow pick Matzneff, Tony Duvert, far right activist Renaud Camus and others) and he apparently discussed the legalization of pedophilia with Catherine Dolto in 2001. Not to say it’s his fault, I get what you say. Wouldn’t consider him the saddest hit of the list this far anyway, Presle or Badinter would take it
