Egads, that's bad! Off topic, is there anyone on this board living (or dying? Hah, got topical after all) anywhere near Royal Troon? The Open Championship starts Thursday, yeeha! Good American that I am, my money's on Ernie Els.

Missed another one? http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/07/12/obit.sanford.ap/

It's been my understanding that once cancer metastisizes to the lymph nodes it's pretty much adios amigos in a relatively short period of time. Could the spread to the lymphatic system be overstatement? As an editorial comment, may I add that this board, the internet, the WWW, etc... have one thing especially in common with television and radio; if you don't like the content, change the channel or, better yet, turn it off and give us all a break. EVERYBODY is SOMEBODY'S relative!

Hey, DWB, what's with the ? HE never said he was broke. It was all media speculation. Brando rarely said much of anything in the last few years, so the tabloids just made s*#t up.
-
Yeager is a typically macho fighter-jock, I doubt we'll ever get a clue as to his health on a negative note, however, he's less visible these last few years.
-
DWB's right about one thing, this q-tip is has been on a pachinko ball ride down to the River Styx ever since "Cold-brains" blew his out with a shotgun. She's re-habbed several times and still goes back to the well of soulessness like she's an Aphgani on a popcorn jag... Stop me before I sub-reference again. Gawd, could I mix any more metaphors? We see a bit more coverage of her here in the states. http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/06/28/courtney.love.reut/ http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/07/09/courtney.love.ap/ http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/03/18/love.arrested/index.html And that's just CNN...

I'm still crying in my beer over Greece vs. Portugal, 80 to 1 odds and I never made a bet.

How well was this guy known on the other side of the pond? Only 65 and would have been a terrific dark horse. I actually used to like his cooking show, but then his pedophilia issues sort of persona non grata'd him. http://deathbeeper.com/9410221.html

In the OOPS! department: http://www.guardian.co.uk/obituaries/story...1257226,00.html Anyone remember this guy? Apparently he kicked off a couple of months ago, but I'd not heard about it... [Harry - have moved this topic to merge with the rest of the might-have-beens - DWB]

He'll be 79 in December.

Hey, who are you calling Tinkerbell? Damn, I really thought that the construct of my question would reveal the sarcasm, of course I know the primary meaning of fairy. Not to mention the laughing emoticon. Think you're confused know? We pronounce "Mary" and "marry" exactly the same here, so I STILL don't know how you pronounce "Harry". Wow, there really is a language gap, isn't there? And I've always considered myself rather, uh, continental (?) when it came to English vs. American. Two logic puzzlers I love to pose to religious types: Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons (navels)? If God can do anything, can he create a rock so big that he can't lift it?
-
Okay, I'll bite, how does one pronounce 'Harry" in the U.K? Obviously I've not encountered the name while over there. And, yes, Harry rhymes with 'Mary' in the States, as well as Hairy, and I, too, thought it too Yeti-ish. And what, my furry friend, other meaning than "buggerer" could "Fairy" possibly have?

An overlooked resource (for discussions, not for lists, it would be a bit late)? http://www.celebritydeathbeeper.com/ And in the "any ink is good ink" department... http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/pop...pop-candy_x.htm And I sent the author an email pointing out the ommission of the international aspect along with a link to the Deathlist site. Cheeky broad! (Note the succesful combination of English and American slang, so diplomatic. )

I understand, GR, I've long been a proponent of calling the language spoken in the U.S. "American" rather than "English". That being said, I have had a lot of exposure to the languages spoken in the U.K. (you have almost as many dialects as the U.S.) and I still have a problem with some references. It took years before I was able to stop translating "fook" in my head when speaking to my friends in Manchester Oh, yeah, that "other" question I forgot yesterday, doesn't winning a Nobel Prize pretty much cover the famous question, regardless of general recognition?

Yikes, what part of "her name became synonymous with disease and death" didn't anyone get? Mary Mallon was credited (blamed?) with bringing Typhoid Fever to the United States, thus killing countless people. Since I'm a rather macho kind of guy who would have felt a bit odd using Mary as a screen name here, I chose a male name that rhymed with Mary (rejecting Larry, Jerry, etc... in favor of Harry because of the Prince by that name) in the optomistic belief the inference would be obvious. Alas, it was not to be, and a joke is never as funny if you have to explain it. My fault, obviously, but I tried...

But PM really cracks me up, omelet him do some more puns.

Salmonella from an egg? Someone needs to tell Sir Patrick you're supposed to cook them first!

Perhaps Miss Moneypenny (Lois Maxwell) is a candidate... http://imdb.com/name/nm0561755/ Last known residence is Perth, Australia. As an aside, something I didn't know and was surprised to learn: Roger Moore is two years older than Sean Connery. How're the two of them feeling, I wonder...

Yeah, Yeti, looks like that luck worked out really well for the Kennedys... My favorite, the highest ever endorsment for a cup of coffee, was in an advert for Mr. Coffee machines where Joe Dimaggio claimed it (the coffee) was the best thing he'd ever tasted. Now THAT'S saying something.
-
Is the weatherkid really gone? It always felt sort of weird reading the rantings of a 13-year-old. Darn, now I'll have to have a beer to mark the occasion. (Oh, and I voted for 13 without even considering the kid, maybe an omen?)

Jack is 85, had a birthday bash in February and looks like he'll go forever.

He was hated by the powers in Hollywood because he wouldn't play the game according to their "rules". For the same reason, I admired him, but he hasn't really done anything lately to piss people off. Old age, I suppose. Does anyone recall his refusal to accept the best actor Oscar on political principal? As an aside, the last time I saw him, he weighed about 350 lbs, how many stone would that be?
-
Yikes! The media coverage of the Godfather's finest (or at least most realistic) performance is ridiculous, and it's only 3:05 PM here in lala land: "All of Hollywood mourns..." Yeah, right! MOST of "Hollywood" hated his ass! "The nation grieves..." I think I'm going to be sick, and I'm an admirer of Brando's work. Oh well, the Ronnie Raygun frenzy has tapered off and I suppose they needed a new snot rag story.

I simply cannot believe that old Hugh is not better known in the UK. Actually, as journalism is quite the mutual admiration society, I hardly think his death would go unreported by at least Reuters and the Beeb.
