But he is the third music-related Jimmy Johnson to die in the past three years. Jimmy Johnson the top session musician and member of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and Jimmy Johnson the Styx guitar tech both passed in 2019, as noted elsewhere in the Deathlist. -
Hesseman was also a semi-regular on the final season of the long-running sitcom One Day at a Time. He was included in the opening credits in the episodes in which he appeared.
-
He may have been a deejay and a teacher, but he was no Bishop. (The point being I was looking through tweets, saw Howard Hesseman, then saw his death was already mentioned in the Deathlist, so I moved on to another name...this Bishop who apparently isn't a Bishop, and posted his obit instead.)
-
The news story referred to him as such, so I took it at its word. And since somebody posted Howard Hesseman's death before I did, a slow news day it is, indeed.

Instagram reporting the death of Major General John K. Singlaub of the United States Army (retired), at the age of 100. Singlaub, who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, later became chief of staff of U.S. forces in South Korea until he was relieved of the position after criticizing President Jimmy Carter. By all accounts, a notable military name.

I guess it depends on your definition of hitmaker. Vera Lynn and George Burns each hit the Billboard Hot 100 and lived until at least 100. Lynn only had two minor hits in the rock era, but might've had more pre-1955. Burns only hit the chart once and was obviously not a singer.
