Charles Duke now the last surviving crew member of Apollo 16. He is also the youngest surviving crew member of all of the Apollo missions at 88 years old, Mattingly was 87. Really shows they are part of a dying breed: there are nine crew members left, aged 88-95. (Apollo missions 10, 11, 15, 16 and 17 have one surviving member; infamous mission Apollo 13 has two living crew members while Apollo 8 has all three of them still living. Apollo 12 and 14 have died out in 2018 and 2016)

Former politician Adriaan Nooteboom has passed away at 95. He was state secretary for Finance (1977-1980) in the first Van Agt-cabinet. He began his political career as a member of the CHU, which would fusion into the CDA in 1980. His passing means Dries van Agt is now the oldest surviving member of all three of his own cabinets. Would be quite the risk for them to govern the country that early. I'd imagine they would certainly want to be in power by 2033 to commemorate the centenary of their 'spiritual leader' coming to power Partially joking as ofcourse it's not the entire AfD that thinks that way; but I'm still not keen on seeing any of them governing our neighbours anytime soon. Here to explain the confusion: In the Dutch translation of Harry Potter, Snape was called "Severus Sneep", just like we read about Harry's friends Ron Wemel (Weasley) and Hermelien Griffel (Hermione Granger). And Dumbledore was called Albus Perkamentus, which was probably a nod to parchment. Just a few names stayed exactly the same in Dutch, like Rubeus Hagrid, Hedwig, HP himself and Dobby. Since I started reading the books in English though, it's the original spelling of the characters' names I think of.

Thanks. One of those cases I thought about from time to time, never finding anything major about her. She's the first actor who portrayed a member of the Weasley family, to pass away.

I used to open this thread thinking "I wonder if there's a health update on Tajima//Kane Tanaka or Robert Weighton." Nowadays it's more likely to be one of the following: 1. "The 3rd oldest Czechoslovakian person has died". 2. "Fusa Tatsumi is still a living corpse". 3. "Let's trigger the French by saying Calment was a fraud" Still better than most of the sports threads in my opinion

My paternal grandmother had been suffering from dementia for years but eventually passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest aged 83. It was quite a traumatic event for me as a child, as it happened during a (festive) family gathering. My grandfathers passed away aged 84 and 86, both of them had been in declining health in the months before. My maternal grandmother is still alive, aged 91. Diagnosed with alzheimer's six years ago and lives in a retirement home since. She mostly talks about her youth nowadays, but recognizes her family members most days and hasn't really declined massively in the last couple of years. She used to be my youngest grandparent but is now the oldest agewise. Both my parents are alive, aged 60 and 58. Although they don't have real health problems as of yet, my mother is a long-time smoker so I'm not sure she'll live to such a great age as her parents.

And I'm back from my trip to Finland! Enjoyed the time with my girlfriend's family a lot, we stayed for some time at her family's summer cottage and the rest of it in Tampere where most of her direct family lives. Also got to meet some newest members of the family as her cousins are beginning to get children. Weather was fine as well; some more wind than usual for the area and some cloudy days, but also multiple sunny days. All in all I love what I've seen from the country since I've started visiting it some years ago: lots of nature, large cities that don't feel crowded but have a lot to offer (Helsinki, Tampere) and kind people. Lastly, I'm learning Finnish on Duolingo since a year or two, definitely not fluent yet but learning a lot of new words and can now reasonably follow an average conversation between Finnish people. Kiitos hienoista viikoista, Suomi!

Seems I'm one of the more frequent users of this thread, I do like sharing when I'm away for longer just in case, and perhaps it can inspire other forum users when visiting said places. Earlier this month I went to Lisbon for a couple of days, quite nice weather (mostly about 25 degrees celsius) but sadly quite touristic. Right now I'm departing from Amsterdam with my girlfriend to visit her family in Finland for a couple of weeks. Until then!
