What?! Do you mean to tell me that you have not heard of the highly notable and exciting names brought to us on a daily basis by diego?
Bastiaan Poortenar?!! THE Bastiaan Poortenar. Only competed and lost once, doesn't get more notable than that!He even misspelled it as the link clearly shows his name as "Bastiaan Poortenaar".
On a completely unrelated note, as a Dutchman I never heard of him either before I opened this thread.

1 hour ago, The Old Crem said:Looks like the PVV will lead the next dutch Government.
It looks like it will be a political experiment: PVV (Wilders), VVD, NSC and BBB have finished their talks for a coalition; their factions in parliament are reading the agreement as we speak and can suggest amendments, after that we'll probably get a government again... But who exactly that will be, is still the question.
All four party leaders have said they will stay in parliament, while former coalition talks moderator Ronald Plasterk (66) has been rumoured to become Prime Minister. He is a member of the Labour party (PvdA) but has steered to the right of his party in columns during the last couple of years. If he becomes PM, he'll probably have to leave the PvdA.
Other people who might join the cabinet at the moment are Fleur Agema (PVV), Mona Keijzer (BBB) and Sophie Hermans (VVD).
Doesn't look like the cabinet will be filled with the brightest bunch of political talent in the Netherlands, but we're gonna have to wait and see.

Ofcourse, we don't know what has occured and the investigation is still ongoing, but the way in which this had been handled by the EBU could at the least be called very poor.
A cancelled performance on friday, not a single clear statement by the organisation for half a day, resulting in endless speculation about Joost Klein and what might have happened.
As a dutchman, I could ofcourse be seen as partial; I like Europapa as it is a happy, nostalgic and emotional song, as well as totally different than all of our post-Duncan Laurence entries. I am however trying to look impartially at the whole affair.
If the alleged threatening of a member of the organisation has indeed occured, it would be quite bad and measures should be taken. But until the police has investigated the allegations and concluded there's at least any truth to it all, any action and / or punishment against the Dutch entry would be quite bluntly, a disgrace.

The Hobbit trilogy (2012-2014)
Since we've got a list with actors from the Lord of the Rings trilogy who passed away, below is a similar list for Peter Jackson's the Hobbit trilogy:
Sir Christopher Lee CBE CStJ (1922-2015) Saruman the White
Richard Whiteside (1968-2015) Butterbur Sr.; additional roles
Merv Smith (1933-2018) Tosser Grubb (extended edition)
Ray Henwood (1937-2019) Old Fisherman
Sir Ian Holm CBE (1931-2020) Old Bilbo
Peter Vere-Jones (1939-2021) Mirkwood Spiders (voice)
Sir Anthony Sher KBE (1949-2021) Thráin II (extended edition)Barry Humphries AC CBE (1934-2023) The Great Goblin
Compared to the LotR movies which ended eleven years before, there are quite a lot of deaths in the cast of the Hobbit; these were however mostly the older actors. The ten oldest members of cast for the Hobbit trilogy (whose age I could find):
Sir Ian McKellen CH CBE (b. 1939) Gandalf the Grey
Sir Billy Connolly CBE (b. 1942) Dáin II Ironfoot
Sylvester McCoy (b. 1943) Radagast the Brown
Joan Dawe (b. 1944) Hobbit; Laketown Refugee

Brad Dourif (b. 1950) Gríma Wormtongue
Bruce Phillips (b. 1951) Grimbold
Paul Norell (b. 1952) King of the Dead
Nathaniel Lees (b. 1952) UglukI've found some additional actors who portrayed minor characters in the trilogy:
Michael Elsworth (b. 1932, IMDb) Gondorian Archivist / Cirdan the Shipwright
Peter Corrigan (b. 1950, IMDb) Otho Sackville
Peter McKenzie (1943–2023?, IMDb) Elendil
- He married Deirdre Tarrant CNZM (b. 1946, wiki) in 1971 (McKenzie is named as Peter Leo McKenzie). Their son is Bret McKenzie (b. 1976, wiki), who portrayed an elf in Rivendell / Figwit in the original trilogy.
- I've found a possible match: an obituary from the New Zealand Herald for Peter Leo McKenzie, who passed away on September 9, 2023 in Melbourne "in his eightieth year". One commenter below references his role as Elendil and states "We enjoyed time together on Lord Of The Rings".
Edit: there's a Find A Grave page for him, is birthdate is given as August 10, 1943.
Bruce Allpress (1930–2020, IMDb) Aldor; an elderly man from Rohan. He accidentaly fires his bow at the start of the Battle of Helm's Deep before the command is given, resulting in the first fatality of the battle.

Noooo he was a great actor. I first saw him as King Théoden in the Lord of the Rings trilogy where he had a great on screen presence. RIP Bernard Hill.

On what used to be Queen's Day (30 April), Princess Beatrix released four hedgehogs on her home grounds, Drakensteyn Castle. She looks her age (86) but seems to have no trouble walking through the forest. Mentally seems to be all there as well.

I also love his move to Sauber, hopefully they'll be able to challenge the top teams from 2026 on. Hülkenberg getting on the podium after all those years could become a reality!
- Sainz would be the most likely candidate for the second seat, I'd say both Bottas and Zhou are gone after next year.
Until this news I was sure Bearman would come in at Haas at the cost of Magnussen, after Nico's departure I'd say Kevin is safe for next year. The Schumacher/Mazepin combo has surely shown the team management that they need one experienced driver to develop the car instead of wrecking it every second race.
Re: Newey, I got the feeling he'll be joining Aston Martin; but anything could happen right now.

Frank Field was a hit for me, I'd like to have Frank Caprio on the sub bench. I think S-G Eriksson moves into my main team.

Dutch former D66-politician Ursie Lambrechts has passed away at 68, she was a member of the House of Representatives between 1994-2006.
Retired academic and politician Bob Goudzwaard (90) has also passed away. He was a member of parliament for the Christian party ARP between 1967-1971 and participated in the writing of the first campaign programmes for the new fusion party CDA.
---
Of the three Christian political parties KVP, CHU and ARP that became the CDA between 1977-1980, the numbers are as follows:
- No senators are alive from either of the three parties since 2020;
- The same goes for members of the European Parliament since 2023;
- There are nine former members of the House of Representatives alive from these three parties, the majority of which would represent the CDA in parliament before retiring.

Recent article about former U.S. senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT):
He's said to be in good health, having recovered from health issues he had in his final years in the senate, like skin cancer and breaking his hip. Leahy uses a cane when on long walks but: still goes on these "long walks" most days.
His wife Marcelle Leahy is also said to be doing alright, having finished chemo for a curable form of leukemia.

Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists
in DeathList Forum
Posted
Fanny Blankers-Koen was indeed a very notable Dutch olympian. The recently deceased Sjoukje Dijkstra (gold and silver medals in 1960 and 1964 figure skating) was also quite notable.
Due to recency bias, I know loads of olympians from the last couple of decades, not that much from before. I've made a short list below of notable Dutch olympians for the summer and winter olympics before 2000, sorted by their year of debut and which games they took part in. Most of them won at least one gold medal in their respective sports, and took part in individual sports.
Summer Olympics
- Fanny Blankers-Koen (1918-2004) 1936, 1948, 1952
Track and field athlete who won four gold medals in the 1948 games; her being a mother and 30 years old earned her the nickname "The Flying Housewife".
- Erica Terpstra (1943) 1960, 1964
Swimmer who won a silver and a bronze medal at the 1964 games in Japan. Later became a politician: a member of the house of representatives from 1977 onwards, and state secretary between 1994-1998. She later presented a travel programme, Erica op Reis.
- Anton Geesink (1934-2010) 1964
Judoka who won the final in the open weight competition in 1964, the first year in which judo was an Olympic sport.
- Ada Kok (1947) 1964, 1968
Swimmer who won two silver medals in 1964, and a gold medal in 1968. She was internationally known as one of the best in the butterfly stroke.
- Joop Zoetemelk (1946) 1968
Racing cyclist who won gold in 1968, later in his career would win the 1980 Tour de France.
- Anky van Grunsven (1968) 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012
Equestrian who competed in the dressage in all six games between 1992 and 2012, winning three gold medals, five silver ones and one bronze medal. Anky is the most famous equestrian in our country, and her two winning horses (Bonfire and Salinero) even got statues in her village after they passed away.
Winter Olympics
- Sjoukje Dijkstra (1942-2024) 1960, 1964
Figure skater who won a silver medal in 1960 and a gold medal in 1964. She was the first Dutch athlete to win a Winter Olympics gold medal.
- Yvonne van Gennip (1964) 1984, 1988, 1992
Speed skater who won three gold medals in 1988, after injuring her foot and needing surgery less than two months before the games.
- Marianne Timmer (1974) 1998, 2002, 2006
Speed skater who won three gold medals, the first two in 1998 and the last one in 2006.
