Rolf Harris came in as a sub with Marian Fuks' death a few days ago. As I have most uncharacteristically had 2 people die on me within the space of a few days I think I need another sub. Glynis Johns please.

Saw 10cc live last night. Actually more accurately 2.5cc, as only Graham Gouldman remains of the original foursome, Godley & Creme having left in the late 70s and Eric Stewart in the 1990s. Two of the other guys on stage had been in the touring band in the 70s and had played on various albums thereafter. They had an excellent lead vocalist who, while not doing an impression of the originals, sounded quite like Lol Creme on all the latter's solos and not too far away from Eric Stewart in his baritone range. Gouldman sounded just like himself 40+ years ago on Dreadlock Holiday (and looked very well generally, not going to be of interest to us for many years). Did all the hits and my favourite album tracks (Old Wild Men, Somewhere in Hollywood, all 3 parts of Feel the Benefit), so I was delighted. Thoroughly recommended. I know bands still touring decades after their hey day with one or even none of the classic line up can divide opinion. Both Stewart and Creme are on record as saying they wished Gouldman wouldn't call the band 10cc, although Godley is supportive and still makes occasional cameo appearances with them (sadly not last night). As long as the publicity posters clearly show who is playing (which they did) then I think it's fine. It's a great back catalogue and they did it justice. -

Yes, had just realised I had pasted down the wrong post when updating for my Freda Payne error when you helpfully pointed it out. I think my edited post above is a true and accurate statement of the current state of affairs now, apologies for the incompetence. -

Rex – Hot Love 18 Rod Stewart - Maggie May 11 Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime 8 Edison Lighthouse -Love Grows (Where my Rosemary Goes) 7 Benny Hill - Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West) Probably a minority view here but, although the boy can clearly play a bit, Hendrix doesn't really do it for me. Otherwise, I like all of them, although the top 4 (exc Hendrix), looks about right to me. -

If you do allow this, then I'll sub in Rolf Harris. But I can see from Reptile's above why you wouldn't....given the fact he has died is not at issue I can presumably sub in Rolf anyway irrespective of whether or not I get a point for Mr Fuks...

Marian Fuks no more https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marian_Fuks_(historian) No sign of a QO as yet. Occupational hazard of a pick chosen because their (wilfully mis-pronounced) surname appealed to the 12 year old boy inside me.

In purely musical terms, whilst Rolf's song is pretty awful, surely Granddad is even worse? All those sickly sweet kids sitting around him him singing their sickly sweet lyrics in a sickly sweet way? If we're going to take off-field considerations into account, then surely the thought of Sally Carr's hot-panted rear ca 1971 should be enough to have MOTR rocketing up the charts... -

A Bride's Nightie by Tony Thorpe (formerly of the Rubettes). There is a lot about his time in the industry before fame hit (some of it interesting) and quite a lot about his post pop-star career (most of it less than fascinating). What there isn't is much about his time in what was a very successful singles band that had 9 hits over a couple of years in the mid-70s. Given how litigious some of his former bandmates turned out to be, this may have been deliberate, but there are as many pages devoted to his comeback fronting the Firm (singing the novelty song 'Arfur Daley') as there are to his time in the band - all rather like reading a Paul McCartney autobiography which glosses over the Beatles in one chapter only to spend another one wallowing in the pleasure that the Frog Chorus song brought him. A bonus point for writing it all himself rather than getting someone else to do it for him, but a little disappointing on the whole. Much the same applies to Dave Hill's 'So Here it is.' There's a lot of his philosophy on life and a lot of detail about his nice house in Solihull, but the Slade years chapters are full of platitudes for the most part, you get little feel for which of his bandmates he liked (or didn't), which is remarkable for a band that were together nearly 25 years (and then 2 of them carried on as Slade II for another 20). Presumably he didn't want to fall out with/get sued by any of them either. -

I see Diego has liked all 24 posts on the previous page (excluding the Engineer's one of only 2 hours ago). Never knew discussions about whether obscure actors from (in some cases) equally obscure films are still alive could be so consistently fascinating....
