Historically yes, although he's been there over a year now and a promotion push isn't looking likely. Guess the more recently ex-premier league clubs have more money to spemd then Boro. -

I don't think he did that bad a job there. When Saint-Maximin and Wilson are injured it's a pretty limited squad. They finished comfortably in about 12th last season after a poor first half which was arguably quite an achievement. Klopp/Guardiola/Mourinho wouldn't have got that squad challenging for Europe. Neil Warnock isn't doing any better than mid-table with Middlesbrough. He's 70-odd and will probably get fed up and retire soon, Bruce could go there. -
Really? I was under the impression that 'the DL Prediction game' thread was all about the latter. Surely the Shadow Lists thread is the one for people to boast about how they are beating the committee (not infrequently by using a load of people who aren't famous enough to get on the actual DL.) If all your picks were on the committee's radar (how do you know this btw, are you on it?) then good for you. Not trying to have a pop at anyone individually, just observing that it's an unequal game.

Whilst self-evidently good picks, if some of these people had turned up on the real deathlist (which i believe was the point of the original exercise) they would have been met with a chorus of 'not famous enough.'

Any alien reading this thread (poor sod) would form the impression that 90% of earth babies are born to bottle blondes who sport an excessive amount of eye make up. -

If Ben Adams is known as the A1 singer, what should we call Gillian Taylforth? -
Amy Winifred Hawkins is a hit for me here, thanks.

I agree with drol about Mengistu but otherwise TQR is right, there are 19 people on Arghton's list I've never heard of (most of the Asian/Eastern-sounding ones) who would surely not make the DL on fame grounds. Or maybe I'm just ignorant :-)

I sat about 2m away from Jeff Astle (formerly of WBA, England and bad singing on Skinner and Baddiel's Fantasy Football programme) on a cross-channel ferry in 1973. Also met Denise Lewis ca 1995, nice as well as gorgeous Sally Carr (Middle of the Road) 1972, she was stunning and sweet, I was nearly 10 and enraptured Peter Osgood Ivan Mauger (6 x world speedway champion) Kenny Andrews of the Darts (doo wop band of late 70s/early 80s) Several Rubettes David Steel (Liberal leader) Most memorable, I was pulled onto the stage and very pleasurably groped by Tracie Young (of The House that Jack Built fame) at a gig in the early 80s. I was sufficiently inspired to invest in her current single 'I love you when you sleep' the following day, which purchase propelled it from no 55 up to its peak of 53 in the charts the following week. That was her last hit....she was about 19 at the time. -
Amy Winifred Hawkin points please. I make it two for the surname, 2 for the christian name beginning with A and 3 for being unique. Thanks GUB https://www.itv.com › news › wales-oldest-woman-and-... ...

Great Uncle Bulgaria replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
She did brilliantly. That said, the medical time out was wonderfully timed. She'd failed to take 3 match points, then lost a game, was break point down on her own serve and there had been a massive momentum shift immediately prior to her cutting her leg. Seems like a lovely girl. Telegenic too. No doubt she'll be on Graham Norton next week and advertising low fat yoghurt alongside KJT by the week after. -

Covid 19 ------- Third wave?
Great Uncle Bulgaria replied to Paul Bearer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Recovering now having tested positive middle of last week (got it off a young womble who went to a pop festival in Cornwall and brought it back with him, as did tens of thousands of others). Been jabbed twice so thankfully only like a moderate bout of flu, but still not very pleasant for a few days. Accepting the line that vaccines reduce the severity of symptoms by about 70%, without the jabs it would have been pretty sh*tty. Would recommend any waverers to get it. (The young womble (20) had a moderate cold for 3-4 days and recovered quickly). -

Formula 1 & Other Motor Racing
Great Uncle Bulgaria replied to Cowboy Ronnie's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
As a once massive speedway fan glad to se someone posting this, but Owen was never really a top tier speedway rider. His season with top league Belle Vue was when they entered a junior team in the second division (although he was 33 at the time) and the bulk of his career was with second division workington, with whom he was generally a heat leader (i.e. one of their top 3 riders) but not really one of the stars of the league. Saw him several times at Weymouth (then my local team) in the 70s. -

Premier league I think, subject to earning at least £50,000 a week. You can also get one if you're world motor racing champion. Apparently you don't get one if you represented your junior school twice and played 6-a-side for fun for several years before retiring at 30. -
The English Language
Great Uncle Bulgaria replied to Larry Pestilence III's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Gives it more of a literary flourish perhaps, as opposed to the rather bald 'he killed himself' Maybe the first person who wrote that thought that the instrument that ended the story of carnage being the same one that started it gave it a pleasing resolution, or completeness. He that killed with the sword, died by the sword, as it were. And everyone else liked it so much it became an unspoken tradition. -
