Yes, it's likely that 2 time Oscar winning British citizen Dame Olivia de Havilland wont get much coverage in the British press when she goes...

She will get articles and maybe some front pages (Broadsheets where more stories make the front page) because she is the last well known star of 1930's hollywood and one of the most iconic films of all time  but it won't be a top headline job unlike what Doris got and what Vera will get.

  2. Looking at old threads and I saw some people suggesting rules should be amended so that at least one non UK obituary is required. Of the British celebs on the list who would fail that?

John McCricick doesn't seem to have any non Uk or Ireland fame. Cleo Lane and June Brown would suffer. Emmerdale is popular enough in Sweden for Leah's demise to get reported there.

Of course all reasonably well known British celebs get Irish obituaries as well

I see the expired certificate issue's been resolved, or at least I can access the site through Mozilla Firefox, without having to whitelist the URLs, nor needing to backdate the computer.

Thank you, DL website administrator!

Working on my Ipad and the locked symbol is back (when I had to give my permission to access the site an orange symbol replaced it  for me on Firefox as well so the issue is clearly fixed.

Hidden in many of these articles was also the news that Rosalynn was also in the hospital for feeling "faint".

I think she is going to go before him - she always seems to having hospital worthy illnesses (Unlike Jimmy who gets the cancer and bad falls).

She will be a bad miss if she dies this year but an humongous one if she is not added next year.

A notable absentee at Lady Gabriellas wedding at the weekend was her Aunt the Duchess of Kent who I believe also missed Princess Eugenies wedding.

Perhaps a significant ominous sign. Perhaps not...

I take that as ominous - Eugenie was an extended relative but Gabriella is her niece and I believe the Kent's are close.

She needs to be considered for next's year list.

Wouk is the only centenarian on the list whose death is not big news in the UK.The other 3 would all get rolling news coverage on BBC and Sky news and their deaths are guaranteed to get a full segment on every news stations bulletins.

Incidentally a neighbour of mines father was born on the same day as Wouk and is still alive.

In terms of Uk coverage it will go Vera, Kirk, Olivia. Kirk the biggest worldwide but Vera' will see huge coverage here in the UK.

I know someone born on the same day as Carol Channing and is still alive (But tired of living).

  7. Wow, Didn't expect a third hit this week.

Didn't get a breaking news tweet from any of the breaking news accounts of BBC, Sky News, LBC or the Mirror. I wonder who else on the list wouldn't get at least one of them.

It's the name the thread was created for, but hey, plenty of still living buildings designers and engineers are available.

If you Louvre me now, you take away the IM Pei of me.....

If Norman Foster is still around in 10 years once he turns 93 or so he might be someone who could make the main list.

@En Passant I did try and think about the relative levels of fame. At the top you have Prince Philip which I don't think anyone would dispute and I put Kirk Douglas below him because he was a global superstar actor.

World leaders scored high and film stars but I tried to rank them in their levels of iconography.

Whilst we spend more time discussing Olivia de Havilland I think Doris Day would be more recognisable in the public.

Struggled with people like Tina Turner and Vera Lynne trying to think outside the paraochial UK centric box. How famous is Vera outside of the UK?

The US stars that have no traction over here I tried to place higher than the equivalent UK TV stars because of your point about global populations but someone like Honor Blackman was Pussy Galore.

I did tend to penalise people that I have only heard about because of the Deathlist.

Please send me your own version by DM (to avoid clogging the thread with endless lists) and I will try and create and averaged out one.

The Coverage of Doris's death has probably proved your point. I can't see Olivia when she sadly goes being the top story on the BBC News. Vera Lynn will through unless they is a big story that day (And Vera may well get full pages front covers.)
