Take it from an American, Harris would have no chance to win a general election here, thanks to our Electoral College system. Sure, she'd win the popular vote, but that's irrelevant. And I'm quite certain that the Democrats are well aware of this and that Biden represents their best chance to hold the presidency. Perhaps he would resign during a second term, allowing Harris to hold the office for a while, but that's the only way Harris is going to become president. Well, that, or Biden dying in office.

I thought Charles' speech was outstanding. We so rarely get that kind of eloquence here in the U.S.

Weiskopf was a hit for me. Low-hanging fruit really, in picking an almost 80-year-old with pancreatic cancer. He had a great line as a commentator on the Sunday broadcast of the 1986 Masters that Nicklaus went on to win. As Jack was about to hit his tee shot on the par-3 16th, Jim Nantz, then a very young broadcaster just getting his start at CBS, asked Weiskopf what Jack might be feeling in that moment, noting that he hadn't experienced a stretch like that in a while. And Weiskopf quipped "if I knew that, I would have won this tournament!" It was great.

Yikes.

What a radiant beauty and talent she was. She had this warmth and ease about her that even came through in her singing voice, and she faced her cancer battle with her trademark sunny optimism and grace. I knew this news was likely to come fairly soon (you can only stave off stage 4 cancer for so long), but it doesn't make it any less shitty. She also had to be an incredibly strong person to live as long as she did with what she had. This is a tough one. The world is less good today. May she rest in peace.

I mean, she had been in the throes of dementia for quite some time. While that condition can last for many, many years, no one can be surprised that she finally succumbed to it.

She's been on my list for at least a couple of years, and finally gives me another hit this year. Been a slow year for me. Didn't even get the correct Celtics legend on my list.

I had never heard of those two names, Deathrace. YoungWillz, yes, Avalon is one I missed for sure. He had his first string of big hits in 1959!

I'm probably missing some, but beyond Belafonte, I can think of Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Mathis, Paul Anka, and definitely Pat Boone. Boone was the best-charting artist of the late 1950's in America that was not named Elvis. I had to look this up, but Frankie Valli just misses out here, as he became the lead singer of The Four Seasons in 1960.

I couldn't place where I'd seen his face before, so I looked it up, and for me, I remembered seeing him in the Schwarzenegger flick Commando.

Yeah, his face looks much less "full" than when he was in the public eye, but if you didn't have that as a frame of reference, you'd just think that you were looking at a 92-year-old man who looks like he's in pretty good health.

I could be wrong, but I feel like George Shultz looked pretty good and was mentally sharp at 99, and then died at 100. And I think I recall him looking far, far more aged and frail in the last pictures shown of him, as opposed to when he was 99. It can slip away quickly, obviously, once one reaches this age.

There is no question that she is one of the greatest vocalists who have ever lived.

It seems that way, and she's struggled with manic depression for her entire adult life, I believe.

It is Jackie Robinson Day today across MLB, and Jackie's widow, 99-year-old Rachel, is in attendance at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles tonight. At her age anything can happen, but given that she's able to attend, I'd say that's a good sign, and she looks pretty good for someone who is 99. Still a good name to consider for 2023 lists, but I hope she makes it a few more years, like one of my great aunts did who made it to 105.

I believe Greg Norman was in serious contention at an Open Championship a few years ago after he had turned 60. But he certainly didn't come as close as Watson did. I mean, he just needed a par on the 72nd hole from the middle of the fairway with a short iron in his hands! And he really did hit the absolute shot he wanted to hit, struck it purely, but he and the caddie just misjudged how far in front of the hole that shot needed to land. Such a shame.

Bogeyed the 72nd hole to get Cink into the playoff, also, and his short iron approach was literally right at it. He just misjudged how firm that green was in combination with how downwind it was playing, so his ball bounded long and he couldn't get up and down with the putter. If he lands that shot 30-40 feet short of the pin, he wins the Claret Jug. I'm still upset at how that ended!

Apparently he died of heart disease. Maybe no one was funnier at a roast than Gilbert Gottfried. I realize he obviously did a lot more than just that in his career, but this man's roast sets were insane. He would have his fellow comics howling. May he RIP. Jack has definitely been slipping in recent years into the territory of someone who just looks like an old man, and moves like an old man. (My dad is 80 which is "old", but I don't put him in that category, as he can still hit drives 240 yards, believe it or not.) I don't think his death is imminent or anything, but I agree that he is much more frail compared to where he was about 4 or 5 years ago. He looks like he can barely hit it over 125 yards now when you watch him swing the club, and keep in mind that they practice for that moment so that is basically the best that he can do now. Player, at 86, has significantly more length and clubhead speed on his swing, and he is absolutely in far better condition than Nicklaus is. I would have to give him strong odds to outlive Nicklaus, no doubt about it. I don't think Nicklaus makes it to 90. And hey, that's still not a bad run for someone who was born when he was. I don't like his politics but he's a true gentleman of the game and an obvious legend, as only Tiger has a claim as being greater than him in the game's history. His win in the '86 Masters is one of my earliest sports memories that I can remember vividly, and he even made a couple of spirited runs in future Masters tournaments when he was much older. I'll be sad when he passes. One other thing, my eyebrows will be raised when I hear other golfers (whether some of his old contemporaries or current guys on Tour) start to talk about him wistfully and with some emotion. Jack did that on TV talking about Arnold Palmer less than a year before he died, and I figured Arnie was in serious trouble.

That could absolutely be true, but it's also worth pointing out that the Sharks are having another poor season and that this will be the third consecutive season in which they miss the playoffs, and the Sharks have mostly been a winning team during his tenure. Maybe all parties just thought it was time for a change.

I just saw a report about his death on ESPN's SportsCenter, and it was said that he was diagnosed with early-stage dementia back in 2012. The report also mentioned that Wright suffered from seizures and that he attributed them to the head trauma he experienced as a pro.
