    American Football Players

I thought initially that it was a violent head trauma and then he tried to get up and collapsed, but it appears that rather than head trauma, it may have been direct chest trauma that caused a cardiac arrest. It didn't look like the most violent hit I've ever seen, so perhaps there was an underlying condition going on involving his heart, I have no idea. But obviously a very frightening situation. Jerry Lawler tweeted that he would bet it was a cardiac arrest from direct chest trauma, since he's experienced that himself.

Apparently has a pulse but isn't breathing on his own. Remarkably frightening situation. Joe Danneman @FOX19Joe I’m told Damar Hamlin has a pulse, but is not breathing on his own. He is being transported to UC. Needed AED and CPR on the field. 6:20 PM · Jan 2, 2023

    American Football Players

There is a somber and grave situation going on right now in Cincinnati. Bills safety Damar Hamlin had a collision with another player, tried to get up, and collapsed to the ground. Medical personnel administered CPR for 9 minutes and he was stretchered into an ambulance while being given oxygen. Hopefully it's a good sign that the oxygen was given and that they were no longer doing the CPR, but this is an extremely scary situation. Hamlin is 24 years old.

    Hal Linden

Good to know! Re-runs have been shown here in America on various channels in syndication for more than 20 years.

    Hal Linden

My favorite sitcom ever. The acting talent and the writing were first-rate, so much so that the episodes still hold up remarkably well today on re-watch, and we're talking about a show that first came on the air almost 40 years ago.

The age of consent in California, where I live, is 18, as it is in most U.S. states, though there are certainly some exceptions. I am not making any comments as to the validity of this woman's accusations or if she's just fabricating the whole thing. I have no idea. However, if the age of consent is 18, legally, a person under the age of 18 cannot give consent because they are deemed to be a minor child. Saying "well, it's legal elsewhere" is not really a valid argument. Ask Brittney Griner about that. Anyway, it's one thing if two 16-year-olds are banging each other. It's another matter entirely if a much older person is involved sexually with someone underage.

Did they show The Golden Girls in the UK? I know that Queen Elizabeth was a big fan, so much so that the main actresses did a live show for her in 1988. Incidentally, Hal Linden guest starred on an episode of the show.

    Norman Lear

Yeah, he seems to be doing well, a la Van Dyke (though Lear is less active/mobile), but I added him to my list just because he's 100. He can't have that much more time left. I haven't even had Van Dyke on my list in the past few years, but if he survives '23, I very well may add him if he looks like he's declined even a little bit.

    The Dead of 2022

Yep, and died in Los Angeles, so it's a 2022 hit! I'm in the general LA-area too so I still have 75 minutes before it's 2023 here. Happy New Year, you filthy animals!

I wonder what those odds are if the person had 500 heart attacks with his original heart.

    37. Dick Cheney

He's not likely to live for several more years. Dude has had a transplanted heart for 10 years, will be 11 if he makes it to March 2023. His own doctor said it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to live for 10 more years back in 2012. So while he's gone past the 10-year mark, expecting him to go well past it is probably not a wise bet.

    Thoughts on 2023 Deathlist

    Thoughts on 2023 Deathlist

Alan Alda, for one, doesn't look like someone who is about to die, nor does he have an illness that will kill him anytime soon. Randy Jackson, on the other hand... And I could say the same for many others who are much younger, but the committee tends to go for older, bigger names. Disappointing.

    Pope Benedict XVI

Right, I'm not saying that Van Dyke couldn't be on the list. He's very famous, sure. But he was in much, much better health than Benedict, who was also old as shit, and it's not like the former Pope wasn't very famous as well. Just a big miss, there's no other way to say it.
  15. MrWonderful

    Pope Benedict XVI

Yeah, it's shocking he wasn't on the DL. Inexplicable, really. He was an obviously frail 90+ year old guy. But they had Van Dyke on the list, who, yes, is old, but quite obviously was active and doing well.

Same. I think I had 6 hits in December. The Lexus December To Remember sales event!

    Death By Numbers 2023

Never done this before, but what the hell, if it's not too late. I'm not even sure of how the scoring works or exactly what the "joker" is, but it looks like gcreptile may have mentioned that your joker gets twice the points? Anyway, I'll list my 50 names, with the joker in the #1 spot, and if my joker happens to die later today, you can just go to the #2 listed person, and so on. I'll also list some subs in case there's a death or two today. Hey, my 2022 shadow list had 2 deaths yesterday, so you never know! Anyway, let's get to it: 1) Johnny Ruffo (joker) 2) Pope Benedict 3) Bob Newhart 4) James Whale 5) Randy Jackson 6) Ayatollah Khamenei 7) Jimmy Carter 8) Rosalynn Carter 9) Yoko Ono 10) Harry Belafonte 11) Linda Ronstadt 12) Joanne Woodward 13) Tony Bennett 14) Nigel Starmer-Smith 15) Eva Marie Saint 16) Bob Barker 17) June Spencer 18) Glynis Johns 19) Rolf Harris 20) Frank Field 21) Linda Nolan 22) Jonnie Irwin 23) Gianluca Vialli 24) Song Ping 25) Sonny Rollins 26) Norman Tebbit 27) Rob Burrow 28) Milan Kundera 29) Steve Gleason 30) Jacques Delors 31) Robert Solow 32) Ryuichi Sakamoto 33) Philippe de Gaulle 34) George Alagiah 35) Stanley Baxter 36) Henry Kissinger 37) Andy Taylor 38) Steve McMichael 39) Pervez Musharraf 40) Bobby Charlton 41) Shannen Doherty 42) Liza Minnelli 43) Ruth Buzzi 44) Stella Stevens 45) Norman Lear 46) David Graham 47) Alberto Fujimori 48) Dick Cheney 49) Samu 50) Ted Kaczynski Subs: Teri Garr Fay Vincent Superstar Billy Graham Jean-Marie Le Pen Robert Wagner

An egregious miss by the committee. This is as if the heavens had her die on Dec. 30 to rub it in.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2024

Dikembe Mutombo. As I said in the '23 thread, he started undergoing treatment for a brain tumor as of October 2022. We don't know exactly what he's dealing with, but if he has the dreaded glioblastoma, there's very little chance he sees 2025, with a chance he doesn't even see 2024.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Ronstadt does look fine for now, but I'd caution against thinking she's completely safe for 2023. At the end of last year, Olivia Newton-John looked good, too. Of course, we all knew how serious her cancer had been for quite some time, and it was just a matter of when the treatments stopped working. Well, they stopped working, and in a matter of months, she went from looking good to dead. Ronstadt is past the usual life expectancy for her affliction. So while she looked fine in the interview and while she probably won't be dead next month, once it starts to deteriorate, it often doesn't take long. I'll consider dropping her, but it's not like she has much time to live, relatively speaking.

I think people grieve in different ways, so it's not for me to say what a person should or should not be doing. It wouldn't be for me, for sure, but far be it for me to tell another person how they should handle a close relative's impending death or death. I'll use an example that I saw recently. Earlier this month, a woman that I went to high school with, who is one of my Facebook friends, lost her young daughter tragically. She was probably around 20 years old, something like that. I guess she struggled with severe diabetes and other related health problems, and she had to be rushed to the hospital and fell into a coma. She never came out of it and died maybe 7-10 days later. During the time that her daughter was in the hospital fighting for her life, this friend of mine posted on Facebook multiple times daily about her daughter, and many of my other friends (who also have her on their Facebook) thought it was strange to see these posts given that it seemed her daughter was facing long odds to recover. But it must have been her way of dealing with it, putting something out there so that she didn't break down, who knows. It's not like she was doing it for the social media exposure. Anyway, I just think it's tough to judge a person for how they behave in an extremely serious situation. Different people are going to react in different ways.

If his own daughter is saying one more night together, yeah, we're talking about hours here, not days.
