So sort of like Derek Draper but a bit better? Agreed it's an awful situation to be in, but I'm assuming that asides from the extreme fatigue, she so far hasn't had any other major life threatening complications (organs failing, countless surgeries etc.) from the long Covid.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2024

Recently watched a documentary on Youtube about Holocaust survivor and Dutch psychiatrist Herman van Praag that was made by his own grandson a couple of years ago. Turns out he is still alive at the age of 94.

    World War II Veterans

So December 7th has happened and I do have some Pearl Harbor Survivor updates for you. Ike Schab ended up making it to Hawaii after all, as did Freeman Johnson, Herb Elfring and two survivors I weren't aware of, Harry Chandler and Ken Stevens. There were apparently another man expected (not named), but he wasn't feeling well so he missed the ceremony. Lou Conter didn't attend either. https://www.kcra.com/article/survivors-of-pearl-harbor-attack-returning-to-honor-those-who-perished/46063789 There's also 106 year old Bill Monforte, who's most definitely the oldest living survivor. I can also confirm Sterling Cale is still alive. Not counting the anonymous survivor who missed the ceremonies, here are the remaining survivors. Louis Conter (102) Ike Schab (103) Freeman Johnson (103) Bill Monfort (106) Harry Chandler (102) Herb Elfring (101) Ken Stevens (102) Sterling Cale (102)

    Norman Lear

He was also one of the senior celebrity cast members who took part in Carl Reiner's "If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast" documentary, in which he appeared in incredible shape (so much so, that Carl Reiner joked that he himself faked vitality, while Norman actually has it) and played a major role. Iris Apfel, Alan Bergman, Dick Van Dyke and Mel Brooks are the last senior cast members left.

    The Chequered Flag

Agreed something is up, he's definitely lost a lot of weight. Someone else to watch out for, Wilson Fittipaldi. This is him at Interlagos earlier this year https://twitter.com/Samuelito_F1/status/1721195916223238477. Wilson has Parkinson's disease and compared to Jacques Laffite (also a Parkinson's sufferer around the same age), he looks far more frail.

    The Deathlist Christmas Special!

No survival for me this time as I've been whammed and very early on at that. Went to walk the dogs yesterday and heard it play as I passed by a local pub. To top things off I came across a man randomly playing it on his accordion.

    Henry Kissinger

I'm putting Jurek Martin on my 2024 deadpools simply because of this.

    Astronauts

Another off the radar astronaut death, STS-9 backup payload specialist Michael Lampton on June 9th this year. Astronauts have been dying at a rapid rate lately and it's probably not over yet. Tom Stafford is in the ICU. Jim Lovell, Joe Engle and maybe even Buzz Aldrin are also possibilities.

    Political Frailty

Well we did lose Munger on 28th, Kissinger yesterday and MacGowan today. Maybe not all on the same day but I can't recall a close sequence of big name celebrity deaths happen since George Michael, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds in December 2016. EDIT: Forgot about Pele, Barbara Walters and Pope Benedict in December 2022

    Henry Kissinger

Jimmy Carter actually outlived him, amazing. I also just learned today that there's an entire community called "Iskissingerdeadyet" on reddit who's whole purpose was to wait for Kissinger's death.

    1. Jimmy Carter

I would call that a stretch as well. The mouth gaping open, pale mottled skin with patches of discoloration, being in hospice care for long plus possibility of broken heart syndrome are clear indicators he is at the end of his life. My mother in law is a nurse, when she sees patients showing these signs it usually means it's a matter of days at most.

    1. Jimmy Carter

The memorial service for Rosalynn takes place today at 11:30 AM Eastern Standard Time, so it's only a couple hours left before we likely see Jimmy Carter in the public eye. PBS will be streaming the memorial service live on Youtube as well for those of us who don't have the time to watch the live broadcast.

    World War II Veterans

Ike Schab wants to go back to Pearl Harbor yet again at the age of 103. He "only" needs even more caregivers than the last time he went, and also an entire entourage to assist him. Oh and that's not all, his family are requesting a special wheelchair so that Ike can take a dip in the Pacific ocean (because apparently that is what he wants to do). Now whether he actually makes it is another question, since he was hospitalized several times this year.

Honestly as of right now I think Michelle will outlive Melania, she's health conscious and African-American women tend to live very long so that's two things going for her.

Who Should Be On The 2024 Deathlist

My personal choices. Louis Conter - Centenarian, Pearl Harbor and last USS Arizona survivor. Very likely to get a UK obit due to the significance of his ship in the events of the attack. Tom Stafford - Jim Lovell has already been mentioned so I'm putting in Tom Stafford as my astronaut pick. He's extremely frail and he seems to have slowed down a lot recently. Jack Nicholson - I feel like now is the right time to put him on, he's 86 now and I honestly don't see him living past 90. Vanessa Redgrave - In declining health, should return to DL in 2024 in my opinion. Ken Rosewall - Lot of the big name footballers with DL potential have died recently and I think maybe it's time for a change of sport, so I suggest tennis player Ken Rosewall. In a group photo with Frank Sedgman, Rod Laver and Neale Fraser earlier this year, he seemed to be in the worst shape of the bunch by far.

    Thoughts on 2023 Deathlist

MacGowan, Jimmy Carter, Starmer-Smith are all very ill and we have plenty of 90+ picks who can still do it. It's a long shot, but there is still a possibility we see 5 deaths and 20 being equaled.
  25. The Immortal

    Rosalynn Carter

Two possibilities I see happening. Either he'll die within a couple of days or weeks, or he'll give hospice care the biggest "fuck you" in DL history and somehow live to mid 2024 only to die just short of his 100th birthday.
