When I saw the photos of Wilson at Interlagos in 2023 I had a bad feeling his Parkinson's was quite advanced (hence my recommendation of him in the 2025 possibilities thread). Looking through his wife's Instagram, the decline is even more evident. Granted this cardiac arrest was very unfortunate though.

And you know what's even crazier? Back in 2015 Jimmy Carter had metastatic melanoma which had spread to his brain and liver and nearly everyone including me thought he was a goner right then. He survived that, made a miraculous recovery and since managed to outlive countless more of what you've already mentioned as well as the Queen, one of his successors and even his own vice president. Total immortal.

Now this is one I'm curious about. It's not often you see an immortal being declared by those outside of the DL community, so I'm interested to the exact the backstory behind this.

I think the list is great. I like the variety of returnees and new picks this time (and finally, an astronaut!) and the choices in general are pretty good. Julie Walters is the only pick I think could have been someone else, Liza Minnelli for example is close to the same age and in poorer health. For the drops, I agree Yoko Ono is a controversial drop and could be a potential miss, but besides that I think it's fine.

Damn, that's a sad way to go. Clearly this was a targeted attack of some kind (because what are the odds you just happen to run over your own wife).

I've talked about Jim Lovell and Tom Stafford before, so I'll throw in a new astronaut to throw in for consideration. Joe Engle. He's 91, has been wheelchair bound for a couple years now and was barely able to speak in an interview in 2021. Also since everyone's recommending 5 names it seems, let me throw you 4 more. Wilson Fittipaldi - F1 driver and older brother of Emerson, suffers from Parkinson's disease and looked like this 2 months ago. George Eastham - Hospitalized several times including for a severe pneumonia bout in the last 2 years, in generally poor health. Dries Van Agt - Former Dutch PM. 92, suffered a massive stroke in 2019, frail and rarely seen around in public these days. Pori Moni - My wildcard suggestion for those death pools that accept obscure picks. Bangladeshi actress who's only 31 but has battled drug and alcohol addiction and was hospitalized four times in the last 2 years, twice for serious illness with high fever.

I'm not sure if this is the relevant thread but I've come across a Bangladeshi actress who's health history is worth mentioning. Pori Moni is only 31 but she has battled drug and alcohol addiction since 2016, was hospitalized in January 2022 with COVID symptoms, then again in March 2022 in "an accident" (according to her). In 2023, she was hospitalized in August with high fever and a serious illness and again in October for the same exact reason. Drug and alcohol addiction plus recurring high fevers and serious illnesses is not a good combination, let's see how this goes.

Well, Richard Franklin died on Christmas Day. Maybe not a big death but a sad day for Doctor Who fans nonetheless.

Recently watched a documentary on Youtube about Holocaust survivor and Dutch psychiatrist Herman van Praag that was made by his own grandson a couple of years ago. Turns out he is still alive at the age of 94.
