It’s Werner Herzog for me, no doubt.

Most Significant Death Of Each Month

For all I know she might be lying in that coffin, alive, waiting, clasping the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch and waiting for the Abbey to fill.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Who would have guessed that the Queen demise would do so much to distract, of all people, the Russians!

    The D-A-CH-DeathList 2024 (page 18)

Maybe you should explain who the Maus (mouse) is... Wasn't sure it was worth it. Anyway: There's this TV series that's accompanied almost as many childhoods in Germany as the Queen did in the UK, die Sendung mit der Maus or simply "The Mouse". Said mouse is an orange cartoon mouse that's featured in little clips between other cartoons as well as short documentaries (how-it's-made, travelogues, meta-TV and lots of other stuff). Isolde Schmitt-Menzel was the original creator of the character, the late Friedrich Streich was the original animator. I might've exaggerated the impact of her decease a bit, but only because the mouse remains.

    King Charles III

Right, but she made it another 21 years even so.

This one hits me somewhat harder than the Queen, albeit she's probably utterly unknown outside of the German-speaking world: Isolde Schmitt-Menzel, creator of the mouse, has passed aged 92.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Yes, it could, if he’d get the Charles I treatment.

It's comments like that that make me almost feel pity for that anachronistic old hag.

Completely forgot this sort of thread existed.

Gunter Sachs had also been reported as "the last" when he passed. I never really took notice of either him or Rolf Eden before their deaths, so there might be yet more …

Foreign Personalities, From Stage, Screen, Politics And Life

Very sad but surely lived to grand old age. Two weeks ago I had my first hit of the year and now I'm at three already, the long-awaited enema is finally taking effect!

Two hits for my list within a couple of days – grand total of two in 2022.

Only my first hit this year, I've started to forget I had a list at all.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Plenty of blue/white/red around my place – none of which are celebrating some stupid monarchy that against all odds survived into the 21st century. It’s good to live in Paris <3

Nah, I think for main list picks it's alright to have them bumped randomly once a year. I get the potential for disappointment, but for some of the more obscure names, especially to non-UK readers like me, it's always nice to be reminded they exist.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Later (a year from now? three years? some months?) we're going to agree that it was signs like that marking the beginning of the end.

Jesus Christ. That's the actual design? The "Jubbly" spelling isn't nowhere the near top 10 biggest issues with the design.

I'm putting my money on stage V pancreatic cancer as well, it's known to be a leading death cause amongst 21st century nonagenarian British monarchs.

Don't disagree, but there are also places, e.g. substantial parts of Europe, where people are very much not impressed by visiting royalty.

Who Should Make the Deathlist in 2022?

That would do to even out missing Belmondo. I had him on my last year's longlist but didn't take him in the end either :/

The Germany squad is going to start dropping like flies soon. Don't know – even Horst Eckel of the 1954 team is still alive at 89, had a serious fall in december but apparently recuperated.
