Yu Miu-lin contracts pneumonia and does not think she will make it through the year. Looks remarkably healthy for her health conditions and age in those images though.

As no-one objected, I will try to run this this year. If I fuck up big time, feel free to execute me or summat. Same rules as always, copypasted from the previous year's thread. Joey's bit copied: Wait a second, it's that time of year already? Man, time does fly by fast. So here we are, another year of the annual Advent Avalanche, with the following objective and rules: 25 entrants (24 quickest off the mark plus your host). Competition opens on 1 December with the aim of getting a winner by Christmas Day. And those Rules in Full: 1 - The object of the AVALDP is to WIN. 2 - To enter the AVALDP a contestant must have: A candidate not selected by another other entrant. A candidate in this context means a living person aged 18 or over not being executed within that month who remains alive at midnight on November 30th and is considered likely to cease living soon after and also be capable of gaining a qualifying obit see rule 9 below upon death. 3 - Entries open at 7:00am EST (that's 12:00 PM GMT for the brits) on 30th November and close at midnight (GMT) on 30 November. Entry can only be made by posting the name of a candidate on the AVALDP thread on the Deathlist. 4 The competition is deemed to be open at 00-01 GMT hrs on 1 December 2024. 5 Competition ceases on the death of the first nominated pick on the list of candidates and the winner is the dead pooler who has selected said candidate. 6 Entry is limited to 25 players (24 who are obliged to post entries on the AvalancheDP thread and the host who reserves a right of entry as the master of ceremonies for this endeavor). Presumably the artistic intent is obvious but in case you missed it the idea is to get 25 players to compete for a death within 25 days thereby giving us a victory by Christmas Day at the latest. If you're snoozin you're losing. 6a Because he has forced his own entry arghton guarantees to respect the first 24 qualifying picks and only enter a candidate unselected by the others. Thereby ensuring the really hot selections go to others. 6b - hot selections? No idea why people are picking Karen Gillan tbh... 7 - In the event that two players select the same candidate the allocation of the pick will go to the player who first posted an entry for that candidate even if the entry times are within the same minute. 8 In the event that two players tie for victory on the basis of picks expiring on the same day all efforts will be made to ascertain a winner on the basis of the actual time of death. For these purposes local time of death will be translated to GMT if required. 9 - An "obit" in the context of the AVALDP is any news report in English from a reliable source. Such sources include - but are not limited to - UK national press, UK national broadcast organizations, foreign press and broadcast organizations with an English language thread to their communication, trade press in English, local news organizations reporting in English and coverage in specialist online sites, such as those monitoring the well-being of super-centenarians. Where dispute arises over the qualifying nature of a news source for obit purposes arghtons decision is final. But he wants fast and furious competition and is generally very amenable to low hanging dead pool fruit of all varieties. 10 The Raymond Hewlett Memorial Award applies to the AVALDP. In honor of everybody's favourite Maddie-implicated paedo scum a candidate widely believed to be alive when the winner is declared and subsequently proven to have died previously will be awarded victory in the event that a AVALDP qualifying obit subsequently appears for said candidate. In the event that a AVALDP qualifying obit for the candidate is subsequently proven to have existed prior to commencement of the AVALDP all points will be voided. RHME points are only available during competitionand in the event that a winner has been declared before discovery of a qualifying RHME candidate no revision of the final result will occur. Similarly, if some lucky candidate is awarded RHME victory and this victory once declared is proven to be spurious by late discovery of a qualifying obit; the lucky winner will be allowed to keep his/her lucky win. 10a To ensure smooth operation of rule 10 the period for discovery of result altering obits is deemed to be 48 hours plus the remainder of the calendar day in which victory is first claimed. In other words two days and a part of another day. 11 - If an obited death occurs during play of the AVALDP and is missed despite Arghtons half assed efforts to stay in touch and/or the spirited efforts of AVALDP participants and said death is missed in totting up points, after which a winner is declared, then this death will not count for competition purposes. The same is true in the case of a known death gathering a late obit and therefore allowing some other competitor to be declared a winner. All disputes relating to rule 11 will be resolved by the astute judgement of mss and there is no appeals procedure (though all sides of opinion are warmly invited to liven up the AVALDP thread by venting their fury). 12 - In the event that Deathlist editing options or other online trickery is discovered to have been employed in the editing of entries, those duly fingered for such cheating will be removed from the AVALDP and banned for life from subsequent entry into AVALDPs. 13 In the unlikely event that a pick selected on 30 November fails to mark the start line the entrant selecting said pick will still be deemed to have entered the competition and will have until midnight 1 December to select a new pick (unselected by other entrants). Should the entrant fail to do so no other entrant will be allowed in as a replacement. AND FINALLY... On completion of AVALDP activities the thread will get lively for a short while as losing contestants and spectators offer well-deserved congratulations to the skillful and highly talented new champion, after which time it is expected that the cooling corpse of the thread will be allowed to gently sink into oblivion. Now you know the rules, here is the list of competitors and their choice of candidates: 1. YoungWillz - Billy Connolly 2. drol - Jimmy Carter 3. theoldlady - Jean-Marie Le Pen 4. Steve - Chuwit Kamolvisit 5. Captain Hemlock - James Butts 6. Book - Steve McMichael 7. polar duck - Manouchehr Bakhtiari 8. Commtech Sio Bibble - Marilyn Hagerty 9. livingbygrace - Kaiti Grey 10. Wasn't sure which thread this would fit in the best, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, head of UNESCO 1987-1999, dead at 90. Edit: Oops. Definitely not in this one. I was supposed to post this in "The Dead of 2024"

Yes, one of my suggestions for the 2025 list. Quite an interesting guy. Communist-turned media tycoon who called himself "the Dictator" due to his influence on politics and baseball and said he was delighted in having political parties under his control. Definitely helped shape Japan into what it is now. He was completely sure he'd make it to 100 despite looking like a corpse these last 4 years. Apparently he had a fall earlier this month, went back to work and got pneumonia. Most sources say he died at a hospital but there are claims he was found dead in his office by his secretary. Would've QO'd. Edit: Judging on social media reaction to his death, he seems to have been their Rupert Murdoch...

These days I avoid posting deaths of local celebrities that haven't been mentioned on the forums before, but I'll make an exception here: Heikki Silvennoinen, Finnish comedian, musician and actor has died at 70 from a rare blood disease. I'm quite shocked, he's an absolute A-lister and household name in the country, best known from the Kummeli comedies: Edit: Was just talking with a friend. Earlier today he'd heard it from the radio and mentioned it to a staff member at a store he goes to a lot. Staff member went to mention it to other members of staff and suddenly he realized pretty much everyone around is talking about it and processing it. Shows how big he was here. -
Risky bet but...Michael Bolton? A few brain tumor communities I am in or have visited have judged he's likely suffering from a more severe brain tumor (well, brain cancer) especially due to the emergency surgery, visible weakness and confusion on stage last year. His O2 show was postponed with a full year around the summer and seems that back in October nearly all his shows, atleast all before July 2025, were postponed indefinitely. There's also this health update his nephew provided in August that feels a bit ominous: “He’s the strongest person I know. I mean, honestly, he is determined. Every day he’s getting better,” Adam told EW. “He communicates so much with his eyes, and the power that’s behind them is just reassuring to everybody that this man is built out of something special.” He later clarified to EW that Michael is still able to speak and sing, and added, “He is well and recovering very well.” (He was also seemingly unable to send a video message) Anyways, he has not given any details to the public about what type of brain tumor he has, god knows when his last appearance anywhere was and from a quick look on his Facebook and Instagram I get a feeling he might not be managing his own social medias anymore. Conclusion: I hope I am wrong and have missed something, but it feels like he is either: 1) terminally ill, family is avoiding media attention and the July 2025 O2 show will again be postponed around March or April if he's alive. 2) Not ill, but not the same as he was before - perhaps a massive benign tumor that fucked something up.

Jose Chameleone suffering from acute pancreatitis due to alcoholism according to son. Allegedly hospitalised in critical condition but doesn't sound very serious. -
Daan Schwagermann seems dead too. Only left from that list of around 70 names: 1. Agnes Keleti (103): Looked decrepit on her birthday, but overall great for her age. Could drop dead tomorrow or live another 3 years. 2. Dan Tolkowsky (103): Doing good, youngest of the survivors. 3. Henry Hu (104): OVERDUE already when I made the list and has looked horrible since atleast 2017. No appearances in years, barely survived pneumonia around two years ago and has been in 24/7 care at home since (or even before that) 4. Li Dak-sum (104): Last appearance in 2019 and he looked mummified back then. 5. Ilmari Koppinen (106): Moved to a care home earlier but still exercising every day. 6. Marita Camacho Quiros (113): Has definitely outlived my expectations. 7. Lloyd Geering (106): Definitely most prominent name out of the living. Still doing quite well. 8. Ena Collymore-Woodstock (107): Very frail the last 2 years. Last survivor? Probably either Keleti, Tolkowsky or Geering.

Thomas Berly, Malaysm actor, director etc. and Indian cinema go-to guy when they needed a stereotypical Mexican guy, dead at 92. Allegedly a cast member of Hollywood film Never So Few (1959) but I can't find that much proof. Lots of longevity in the cast, atleast Aki Aleong, Noel De Souza, James Hong, Charles Bateman and George Takei are still alive.

Hamad Ubayd died in a Damascus hospital back in 2005 according to this. Born 1924 instead of 1928, too. There's one seemingly shady site that says al-Hariri died in 2015. If that's true only Jaber is a "might be alive" case, but he was seemingly forcibly retired a few years after his tenure...

To me... January: Personally, Jaakko Valtanen. But out of globally famous ones...Franz Beckenbauer or Zagallo? Not sure if I'm forgetting someone but felt like an incredibly dull month to me who has never been a fan of football. February: Alexei Navalny. March: Akira Tokiyama. Dull month #2, I'd not heard of this guy many times before his death but he seemed to have the largest impact on people. I heard of Toby Keith for the first time on the DL Forums. April: Personally Kaj Chydenius. From the globally famous names, O. J. Simpson. May: Ebrahim Raisi or Kabosu. Another month that sucked. June: Donald Sutherland July: Ismail Haniyeh August: Alain Delon / Susan Wojcicki. Wojcicki seems to have gotten a lot more media coverage, Delon is an A-list household name but I don't care for movies that much in general. September: Kris Kristofferson. October: Personally, Janne Puhakka. Globally, Liam Payne. Honorary most dramatic filmed video of a dying person award goes for Yahya Sinwar. November: Quincy Jones or something. December: Nabib al-halfhalfhalfawy. Jokes aside, boring month and nobody worth mentioning has died yet.

Daniel Bisogno was reported to be gravely ill earlier this week, but apparently he has made a complete miraculous recovery now and will return to his program in 2025. Paquita la del Barrio hospitalised, but "only for checkups, just has a bit of stomach bacteria, just to a doctor because she's in Veracruz" Preta Gil to undergo more surgeries after hospitalisation. Earlier she had travelled to the US for treatments as chemo in Brazil "did not produce the desired results". Apparently it has metastasized to the lymph nodes now.

If you look at the 10 most populated countries, nearly all could be called gerontocracies: China - Xi is 71, average age of the Politburo members is around 65. India - Modi is 74, nearly all the top ministers are 65+, oldest being 80. US - Biden is 82, Trump 78. Average age of the senate is 64 with a plethora of octogenarians. Indonesia - Pres. Subianto is 73. Pakistan - PM Sharif is 73, Pres. Zardari is 69. Both the Senate Chair and the National Assembly Speaker are in their early 70s. Nigeria - Pres. Tinubu is 72. Main opposition leader (Atiku Abubakar) is 78. Brazil - Pres. Lula is 79, VP Ackmin is 72. Barred self coup-attempter Bolsonaro is 69. Bangladesh - Head of Govt Yunus is 84, Pres. Shahabuddin is 74. Russia - Putin is 72 and most of his most trusted comrades are around the same age. Mexico (the 10th-most populated after the forementioned ones) is an exception where the President is only 62, but these nine countries make 54.2% of the world's population. The 70s and 80s Soviet Union is still used as an example of a gerontocracy, but despite his ailments Brezhnev was only 75 when he died, succeeded by 68-year-old Andropov (who died at 69, succeeded by Chernenko who was 72) Part of my point is that any one of these can start mentally declining quite quickly due to undetected dementia, TIA or other ailments, and the question is what happens then? In most of these countries one person already holds too much power.

The Big Jiew is critical in ICU with sepsis, UTI and pneumonia. He has been hospitalised since a biopsy last month. Edit: From earlier family comments, although not directly stated, sounds like he suffers from a form of cancer that causes "wounds and infections" and they've prepared for his condition to go critical. Edit 2: He's apparently conscious and able to communicate. Still critical and very ill. Hours or days?
