Why no Indians ever in DeathList?

Watched the Padma awards ceremony video from yesterday. Mostly quite boring, clearly didn't have most of the recipients there (Tula Ram Upreti and that septuagenarian Tabla maestro nowhere to be seen) but here are some notes. SM Krishna now walks with a cane but seems to have recovered pretty well from his acute respiratory failure. Suman Kalyanpur looked quite frail in my opinion, but not wheelchairbound Jodhaiya Bai Baiga, nonagenarian artist, looked her age. So did 95-year-old Sikh scholar Rattan Singh Jaggi. Guru Thiruvidaimarudur Kuppiah Kalyanasundara (had to copy paste the name from somewhere) looked frail, so did odisha puppet master Maguni Charan Kuanr. V. P. Appukutta Poduval - looked absolutely amazing for 99. Mangala Kanti Roy - Judging on his appearance I'll say no way he's 102. Our next Saalumarada Thimmakka/Pappammal. Gurcharan Singh - first-class cricketer, looks fine for 87. S. Subbaraman looked frail. Prakash Chandra Sood - nuclear science professor. Looked frail and very thin to me. The ultrafrails: Mahipatrai Prataprai Kavi, 91-year-old artist. Needed the help of two people to be lifted up from his wheelchair and still seems like he could've fallen down any moment. Prabhakar Bhanudas Mande - not very notable, not sure how old he is, but looked extremely frail, wheelchairbound with thin and discoloured legs.

    Political Frailty

Navajo Nation chairman/crook Peter MacDonald actually just made an appearance at some event a few days ago: The event was related to the WWII Navajo Code Talkers but as far as I know he was the only one of the living three to attend. He's now 94 with a long health history (tuberculosis, diabetes, multiple heart attacks, triple bypass, arthritis, etc)...and seems to be running out of successors to outlive. Looked fine, he's looked quite frail for years and is mostly wheelchairbound.

Finnish military intelligence colonel, professor and Russia-Ukraine war expert Martti J. Kari hospitalised after suffering a stroke or a heart attack. Other ailments include...terminal cancer for five years with atleast four "incurable tumors" and last year he said that statistically he should be dead. (Video from 2018)

    The Rabbi Thread

Major ultraorthodox rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch, 86, in serious condition in intensive care, Dov Lando and Gershon Edelstein write that he's "suffering greatly and needs the mercy of heaven". He's suffered from some illness, likely terminal, for around two months now and was also hospitalised and in ICU ten days ago and has been undergoing normal treatments related to that illness for a bit over two months.

Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Finnish crime writer Harri Nykänen most known for creating the character Raid dead at 69. One of the most known modern Finnish crime writers (Reijo Mäki and Seppo Jokinen are the largest ones), the tv series and movie based on his books were widely popular in Finland in the early 2000s. See imdb - Raid.

    The Rabbi Thread

Ultraorthodox Charedi Council leader Moshe Sternbuch (the obese 97-year-old who had a pacemaker implanted last year) visits another rabbi who's "recovering from illness" (Sanz dynasty rebbe Zvi Elimelech Halberstam, 71, apparently being treated at home now, not mentioned what his illness is, but he had hypoxia due to covid in 2020):

    Political Frailty

The reaper had other plans, he was never discharged but fought quite a (over two-month) fight against all his ailments and now Taiwan independence activist Zhong Yiren is dead at 101. He's a DL Cup pick but will he get an English obit? I could only found one bot-generated.

    Political Frailty

Pekka Paavola, Finnish Minister of Justice 1972 and longtime crook mayor/city manager of Tampere dead at 89 after a short stay in palliative care. One of those "they're still alive?" names for me. Four ministers of the Feb-Sept 1972 Paasio II government left, known as "Nappulaliiga" ("child league") for having a large amount of ministers under 45, multiple under 30. Those still living are Seija Karkinen, 86, second Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Matti Louekoski, 81, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Seppo Lindblom, 87, Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ulf Sundqvist, 78, Minister of Education. Sundqvist is a heart attack, brain tumor and mouth cancer survivor who chainsmoked for four decades, Lindblom has been frail for a while. Louekoski is still active.

    World's Oldest

JVPM has made it very far. He's now the 10th*-oldest validated man ever, around one more month and he'll reach Israel Kristal. There's also now two 113-year-old validated men, hasn't happened in around a decade. *Or possibly soon the 9th-oldest, 11th-oldest or 12th-oldest. There are two cases of 114-year-old men pending validation, one from Peru and one from the Dominican Republic. If those two are validated he'd be "only" at spot #12, but I'd say it's likely that current #4 Mathew Beard will be "un-validated" in the future. Brazilian longevity claimant Sebastiao Batista dos Santos celebrated his "121st" a few days ago. There's a video on youtube and while he's able to sit and seemingly communicate with people, he looks quite ill, bloodshot eyes and barely able to talk.

Foreign Personalities, From Stage, Screen, Politics And Life

Taiwan actress Lu Bih-yun 盧碧雲 (zh wiki, imdb) is as far as I know still alive at 101. Not mentioned here anywhere, but has 112 imdb credits. Burmese artist San Hlaing, said to be living on his recently created wikipedia page, (if google translate is correct, he was also on oxygen in Nov '15) died in December 2015 according to this facebook post, so don't bother picking him in next year's Centenarians DP.

    Last appearances

Here's a few more "immortals": Li Rui, Mao's personal secretary and later dissident, around five months before his death at 101 in 2019 after suffering from multiple organ failure, possibly cancer and other ailments for a year: Münir Özkul, Turkish actor, "State Artist of Turkey". Not sure if this is the last image of him but probably one of the last. He died in 2018 at 92 after having suffered from COPD and Alzheimer's for atleast 15 years.

    The 100 Club

More on Karthyayani Amma's condition: Apparently she's somewhat recently suffered a stroke and she's now completely bedbound and partially paralysed. Time for a new list of Indian centenarians/notable centenarian claimants, this time a smaller and "frailer" list than the one I posted in October 2021: Up to 1919 Swami Sivananda (1896, probably ca. 1925-1935 - ) Yoga teacher, once in a while hospitalised for "checkups". No matter how old he is, he isn't immune to aging and has been getting frailer. Saalumarada Thimmakka (1910/1911/1913/1919/likely ca. 1928 -) Environmentalist. Very frail with a health history but now attending events nearly every week. Impressive even though she's much younger than she claims to be. Fauja Singh (1st of April 1911/likely ca. 1928 -) Runner. Frail and skeletal for multiple years. Kewal Krishan (27th of July/4th of August 1913 - 1st of April 2023) member of the drafting committee of the Constituent Assembly of India. Hospitalised for surgery in 2019, hasn't apparently left his house nearly at all during the pandemic. Can't find much recent news. Pappammal ("1914", likely later -) Organic farmer, frailish. Probably born 20 years later. Wheelchairbound. 1920-1921 Mollie Lentaigne (6th of May 1920 -) Medical artist, British but born in India so counts half Mani Kumar Chetri (23rd of May 1920 -) Cardiologist. Bed/wheelchairbound with a blanket covering his legs in one recent image and has declined a lot since his 100th. Thanga Darlong (20th of July 1920 - 3rd of December 2023) Folk music artist. Decrepit and suffering from some kind of neck injury last year. C. R. Rao (10th of September 1920 - 23rd of August 2023) Mathematician, statistician. Unable to hold a knife properly and very frail on his 100th, doesn't make appearances anymore as far as I know. Jang Bahadur Singh (10th December of 1920 -) Bhojpuri folk singer/wrestler. Has a long wikipedia page but would his death make local news? Name for search purposes जंगबहादुर सिंह. Mangala Kanti Roy (1920? -) West Bengal folk musician and 2023 Padma Shri recipient. Very likely fraudster. N. Sankaraiah (15th of July 1921 - 15th of November 2023) Politician, former Tamil Nabu Legislative Assembly member. Very thin with swollen feet, but just released a new book and still active in politics. 1922 Karthyayani Amma (1922 - 11th of October 2023) Woman who passed literacy exam at 96. Suffered a paralysing stroke after her claimed 100th, bedbound and very frail. P. Sabanayagam (7th of June 1922 - 22nd of June 2023) Politician. Diabetes for half a decade and now wheelchairbound, suffering from complications. Rustom Sorabji "Rusi" Cooper (15th of December 1922 - 31st of July 2023) First-class cricketer, longest-lived first-class player in the history of Middlesex County Cricket Club. Said to be very ill. I won't add the 1923 names (atleast yet), as far as I know none of them have reached 100. All of them seem to be May-December births. There's also a politician called Shankar Dev, born 1922 marked living on wikipedia, but I doubt he's alive.

    1. Jimmy Carter

All the talk about Carter's longevity and immortality reminded me, over a year ago I saw this post by drol while searching for something: I didn't double-check, but I think he's been the last survivor of this list since Leiji Matsumoto died last month.

    Other Martial Art Practitioners

"Sumo ancient" Kitanofuji Katsuaki hospitalised according to his new column (half of it seems to be about him not being a big fan of baseball, now popular in Japan), not mentioned what his ailment is but sounds like he's been there for a while. Now improving and likely to be discharged soon. Too ill to travel to Osaka for the sumo tournament held there but hopes he'll bounce back.

Crossposting. Another interesting name not mentioned here before is Peter "Pitch" Picciurro, head of the Milwaukee Crime Family or what's left of it. He also owns a ribs restaurant that looks like quite a nice place. Should be around 93-94 now.
