Looking at those photos I noticed two things. His lips are extremely pale and I can see a purplish tint which indicates he isn't getting enough oxygen. Also his mouth is gaping open in all the photos. This means he really has to labour his breaths to get oxygen. Not a doctor but it wouldn't surprise me if his doctors advised him not to go and he ignored them. I dunno why there isn't an oxygen tank with him

My guess would be that the COPD blockage in her lungs would be so advanced at this stage that the only way she can survive (for the time being at least) is having oxygen supplied to her 24/7. Having the constant supply of oxygen in her throat is easier than a face mask because she doesn't have to strain herself breathing in and out, the oxygen would just flow into her lungs. You have to remember this is Israel and as seen with Ariel Sharon case, some families will go to absolutely extreme lengths before letting their elders die.

Just saying this is the man who self funded a movie where he plays a James Bond knock off. He strikes me as the type to exaggerate how ill he is for media attention.
