Conspiracy Theories
Commtech Sio Bibble replied to the_engineer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
It depends, some of them you get and don't need again because you're body builds up long lasting immunity, whereas others you are meant to have boosters for, for example tetanus you're meant to have every 5-10 years. Last time I had any non-Covid vaccines was when I was about 13 or 14 and it was tetanus and the final MMR booster or something like that. Basically it depends on the strength of the illness you're being protected against and effectiveness of the vaccine. -

It's not Sitting MSPs joining the Lords, it's sitting Lords joining the Scottish Parliament. David Steel became an MSP about 2 years after he became a Lord. -

I'm sure it differs, my local MP spends has a couple of high-ranking non-cabinet positions and he spends half his week in Westminster and half his week in the constituency. He's also a Twat but that's not relevant. With Salmond he gave up his seat in the commons after 3 years of being First Minister but similarly Douglas Ross is an MSP and an MP and he's leader of the opposition (Scottish Conservatives). I don't think it being frowned upon is good enough, it's frowned upon the appoint cabinet ministers from the Lords but that didn't stop Sunak from giving Foreign Secretary to David Cameron (and he wasn't even a Lord at that point). -

I've just learnt that Members of the Scottish Parliament are allowed to be Lords or MPs simultaneously, which doesn't sit right with me. The Welsh assembly doesn't allow it (unless a Lord suspends their peerage) and Stormont doesn't usually allow it but has some weird temporary situation going on that I can't get my head around, and on a national level you can't be a Lord and an MP at the same time. Any elected official shouldn't be representing two areas at once, as they would struggle to equally balance both roles. I've always felt sorry for the constituents of the Prime Minister's constituents (or high ranking cabinet ministers) as they obviously won't get the local representation in Parliament that back-bench MPs can give. But that's not a solvable issue without deconstructing the parliamentary system, whereas a piece of legislation blocking sitting members of the Lords /Commons from being MSPs at the same time would be a lot simpler to pass. -

Mango boy is the first user I've decided to ignore posts for, which means I avoid all his spam but it makes everyone else in this thread look schizophrenic.

Past 24 hours have had 3 quite famous British actors, a Nobel prize winner and former MP, an F1 driver, 2nd oldest person and a Quarryman. I think that's quite a decent selection. -

I'm embarrassed enough as it is, without being tagged in the post. I stand by most of my picks (apart from the F1 category because I just chose 3 random names). At least it's not the worst deadpooling performance I've given. -

Fred Elliot was quite possibly my favourite Corrie character of all time, watching him on the ITV3 repeats recently has been an absolute joy. RIP to one of the greatest performers the cobbles have every seen, he was truly one of a kind, I say, one of a kind. -

My father and I have just watched Edgar Wright's 2021 film Last Night in Soho, we both absolutely loved it. Thomasin Mckenzie is brilliant in everything I've seen her in and Diana Rigg gives one hell of a final performance. Moral of the story don't glorify the past, most men are bastards and murder is bad. Also it was a nice reminder that Eloise by Barry Ryan is an absolute banger. -

Conspiracy Theories
Commtech Sio Bibble replied to the_engineer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
My mum is deep into all the vaccine conspiracies and other crap that she sees on Facebook, so I've had to learn to combat this stuff. She has been telling me for months about the risks of the vaccine, mainly on the heart. And everytime my response has been to tell her to wait for an official study (not something off telegram) that details that any problems are widespread and are caused by the vaccine and not by the virus (or increasing obesity rates/a decrease in the quality of life). She has yet to provide such a study. She saw this article the other day and did the exact same thing that the user above did and didn't read beyond the headline, because if she did she'd realise it's more or less on my side. But tbh I wouldn't expect anything else any more as every source that she has ever provided to me to back up her points has been either already debunked by a reputable source or has been posted by some sort of anti-globalism anti-semite who is claiming to be a Doctor on YouTube. -
Since this thread has already gone to shit I may as well point out that there are two mistakes I see here, firstly some people here are quite young. I, for example, am only 19, but I suppose that's an easy mistake to make as I have been told many times that I have the personality of an old man. Secondly okay is spelt with an a not an e. And, while I'm at it, 'OK Boomer' is a dated reference anyway.

Sounds like she has a chance to be a good pick this time, it only took 8 years.

British actor Mark Lewis died last year. I would link you to his IMDb but it appears that his credits have been shared between these two pages (IMDb1 and IMDb2) as by looking at the agency's twitter page he appeared in Ted Lasso and Marvel's Secret Invasion but those credits are split across the two profiles. I'm leaning more towards the fact that the Secret Invasion credit has been incorrectly attributed to the second IMDb page based on the fact that the character he played (left in this image) looks nothing like the photo on 2nd IMDb profile. But even on the more likely IMDb profile, that person is stated to have been born in 1957 but has a credit from 1951. Someone more experienced than me might need to sort this out.

I've just given the in memoriam a quick watch and I agree, it seemed to spend more time on Waddingham singing than it did on those who it was meant to be remembering, and there weren't many to begin with. I could probably slap something better together in a couple of hours. -

I'm watching a documentary on the BBC about the miner's strike, and it reminded me of Arthur Scargill's existence. He'll be 87 next year and has been awfully quiet for close to 2 years now, he feels like a very deathlisty pick. -

Can we please rename this thread to something along the lines of '2024: Predictions and Discussions', I almost have a stroke every-time I try to read its current title.
