The renowned Soviet mountaineer Lyudmila Agranovskaya died at the age of 90 in Kamchatka.
She made seven ascents above 7,000 metres, five of them as a leader. She was the first woman to climb the highest point of the Soviet Union, Peak Communism (1970), and also the first woman in the country to be awarded the badge "For climbing the highest peaks of the Union" ("Snow Leopard", badge number 16).

Vyacheslav Bityutsky (02.10.1937-14.12.2022) died in Voronezh. Vyacheslav Bityutsky, a doctoral candidate in technical sciences, worked at an aviation plant, a research institute and the Voronezh Polytechnic. His life, like that of many citizens, took a sharp turn with the beginning of perestroika.
Vyacheslav Bityutsky was one of those Voronezh residents who in the late 1980s initiated excavations in the forests of Dubovka, where thousands of people were shot during the Stalinist repressions. Thanks to his efforts, a memorial area appeared here.

On 14 December, an ambulance and a truck collided at the 46th kilometre of the Tomsk-Mariinsk motorway, after which the vehicles caught fire. The driver and three passengers of the ambulance died. The deceased had to transport a patient from the Asino district hospital to the perinatal centre.

This has had a major impact on reducing infant mortality in Tomsk Oblast.Yury Bochkov, chief freelance specialist in anaesthesiology and resuscitation in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Regional Health Centre, head of the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department of the Perinatal Centre. He was one of the founders of the intensive care unit and applied modern general anaesthesia techniques used all over the world.
Natalya Ivanova, a nurse, and Mikhail Krinitsyn, the driver, were also killed in the accident.
The driver of the truck violated the rules of exit from a secondary road and had no right to drive vehicles (the commentary wrote for driving under the influence of alcohol).

Juozas Jermalavičius (04.02.1940, Varėna district, Lithuania - 15.12.2022, Moscow) was a Soviet and Lithuanian politician. He is a doctor of historical sciences and a professor. From 1990 to 1991, he was one of the leaders of the Communist Party of Lithuania on the platform of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He participated in the January 1991 events, after which he fled to Belarus. He was extradited to Lithuania in 1994, where he was serving a prison sentence for his role in the January 1991 events. Shortly after his release in 2002, he moved to Russia.
Author of articles and books on Marxism-Leninism.

Dance is the child of music, and they can only die together
Bulat Ayukhanov, Kazakh ballet dancer, choreographer and teacher, film actor, People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR, died on 13 December at the age of 84.
In 1967, Ayukhanov founded the first choreographic miniatures ensemble in the history of arts and culture of Kazakhstan, "The Young Ballet of Alma-Ata". He positioned the ensemble as a company of soloists without the traditional corps de ballet and with almost every dancer having his or her own solo repertoire. In 2003, Ayukhanov's company became the State Academic Dance Theatre of Kazakhstan.
Between 1965 and 2010 Ayukhanov created more than thirty ballets to music by Kazakh composers, including productions in Moscow, Montreal, Paris and London.

On the night of 13-14 December, Professor Alexander Smorodintsev passed away at the age of 92.
Alexander Smorodintsev is the son of Anatoly Smorodintsev, the founder and first director of the Influenza Research Institute, the scientist whose name the institute bears. Smorodintsev, Jr. was also a world-renowned scientist. He was awarded badge for Excellence in Public Health of the USSR, medal for Valorous Labour and 12 medals as a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. He is an author of more than 200 scientific articles, 6 monographs, 7 popular science books, 10 inventions and 1 patent of Russian Federation. Under his supervision 14 PhD theses were defended. In 2001 Alexander Anatolievich was elected Adjuvant Professor of Tropical Medicine at George Washington University (USA).

On December 25, 2022 Alexei Maslov, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces (2004-2008), died. He was 69 years old.
He was later the chief military representative of the Russian Federation to NATO.
In recent years, Maslov served as a special representative of Uralvagonzavod (Nizhny Tagil, Sverdlovsk Region) for military-technical cooperation.
He died in Moscow at the N.N. Burdenko Main Military Clinical Hospital.
