Zdeněk Mácal was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia, was a conductor, was Principal Conductor, WDR Cologne Symphony Orchestra, was appointed Chief Conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for a three-year contract beginning in the 1986 season, was music director of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra of Milwaukee between 86 and 95 (he was the oldest director still alive, now Andreas Delfs who was from 97 to 2009), of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, In 2003, Mácal was appointed principal conductor of the Czech Philharmonic. His contract with the orchestra lasted until 2008, but he suddenly resigned in September 2000. -
