I found several 1970 players whose deaths weren’t announced on this thread (at least that I know of, I apologize if there’s mistakes) : Swedish Rooney Pettersson has died on 26 September 2022. He was the backup goalkeeper behind Ronnie Hellström and Sven-Gunnar Larsson and didn’t play any match. Uruguayan Julio Morales died on 14 February 2022 aged 76. Peruvian Javier Gonzalez died on 11 April 2018 aged 78 His countrymate Orlando De La Torre died on 24 August 2022 aged 78 too Bulgarian Aleksandar Shalamanov died on 25 October 2021 aged 80 Moroccan Hedi Dahane died on 13 July 2020 aged 73 or 74 His countrymate Abdelkader Ouaraghli died on 7 October 2022 aged 78 or 79

Christian Aaron ‘Ari’ Boulogne, the illegitimate son of French actor Alain Delon, has died aged 60. He had always claimed to be Delon’ son, but the latter refused to recognize him. Boulogne asked for DNA tests, but French justice refused to proceed. However Delon’s mother raised him as her true grandson, and he legally took her second husband’s (Delon’s stepfather) name, Boulogne.

Maybe because he loves his country, and so he wanted to go back to Peru. That’s not unheard of. Especially at his age, he wants to die in his home country.

Today former French First Lady Bernadette Chirac is also 90. But she is in really poor health. She’s in a wheelchair for several years now, and could not attend the public funeral mass for his husband Jacques in 2019.

Actually I first heard from him in a French-speaking comic book, XIII , in which a character, a fictional director of the CIA, is greatly inspired by Kissinger. Well, I was only 14 when I read it, so I didn’t know much about US politics and history !

Ferran Olivella, who was an unused substitute for Spain at the 1966 World Cup, has died aged 86. He was also part of the Spanish squad that won Euro 1964, playing the semi-finals and final on home soil. It was the first honour for Spain.

Today 380 years ago, King of France Louis XIII, who reigned from 1610 to 1643, died aged 41. He was the father and predecessor of Louis XIV. On this day 100 years ago, French Prime Minister Charles De Freycinet, who had 4 terms from 1879 to 1892, died aged 94. He was Senator during 44 consecutive years which is a record. However Alain Poher was Senator during 45 interrupted years.

Today, former Turkish football player Hakan Unsal is 50. He won the UEFA Cup and Supercup with Galatasaray in 2000, and the Bronze Medal-Third Place at the 2002 World Cup. Those are the highest achievements of Turkish football.

Football player Romelu Lukaku is 30 today. Since 2017, he has been Belgium’s top goalscorer, with now 72 goals in 106 caps. He is the third youngest player and goalscorer for Belgium. Former Ivorian football player Yaya Touré is 40 today. He mainly played for FC Barcelona and Manchester City. He notably won 6 titles in 2009 with Barcelona : FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League, Spain Super Cup, La Liga and Copa de Espana !

They all seem in pretty good shape. Especially Christopher Lloyd, which I recently saw in Star Wars. He had aged of course, but I couldn’t tell he was 84 !

The longest being his predecessor’s, Louis XIV, who reigned 72 years. Which means that during 131 years, from 1643 to 1774, France only knew 2 kings/head of states. During the next 100 years, France knew 4 kings, 2 emperors, 1 President of the Republic and 10 changes of government’s form ! At the beginning of his reign, Louis XV was nicknamed the « beloved one » (« le bien aimé). But at the end, he was rather beloathed. He was the first king to be borned at Versailles Castle and the only king to die there.

Well he is the « younger » of the survivors. And according to his Facebook account, he seems in a prettty good shape

So the last surviving player from 1950 has died 73 years after the competition. That is less than his previous « predecessors » : Francisco Varallo died 80 years after the 1930 World Cup René Llense died 80 years after the 1934 WC and 76 years after the 1938 WC. Since the life expectancy grows with the years, that should be the opposite !

Well today is the 10th of April !

Former French First Lady Anne-Aymone Giscard d’Estaing, widow of President Valery Giscard d’Estaing, have recently reached 90. She is the third longest lived French First Lady, after Jeanne Fallières who died at 90 years, 4 months and 5 days and Claude Pompidou who died aged 94 years, 7 months and 20 days. She seems in pretty good shape for her age, both mentally and physically, her last interview being for the death of Elizabeth II.

Why would he lie about that ? It’s not as if he’s preoccupied about his image and would lie to look good…

Not really the guy I like to wish his birthday ! His 16 year old niece has accused him of rape and he has fled from justice ! No one knows where he is !
