Gianluca Vialli is the first UEFA Champions League winner (as a player) to die. He is also the first player to appear in a Champions League final to die. Among the coachs, the only dead winner is Raymond Goethals. Johan Cruyff was the second coach who took part in a final (he lost in 1994) to die.

Anthony Quinn who got married and had a child at 82 wasn’t so bad in this matter either

If Jimmy Carter and his wife both live until 24 April 2025, not only Jimmy will be the first president to reach 100, but Rosalynn will be the longest lived first lady

And also what American people were experiencing with their Independence War vets during Gettysburg, since the latter happened 80 years after the Treaty of Paris !

They used to have a « longevity claim » page with people claiming to be 120 years or even older, but I haven’t seen it for a while

It’s odd to see that of the starting lines-up of the 1966 final, only Bobby Charlton and Geoff Hurst are alive for England whereas Germany has 7 survivors ! And for the whole squads, only 5 are still standing for England when Germany has 14 ! Even though England and Germany had and still have similar standards of life. The « George Best » syndrome for England maybe ?

If I remember correctly, Beckenbauer arrived at New York Cosmos when Pelé left the club. But they did crossed path at the 1966 and 1970 World Cups

I believe we can say all the Flying Tigers are dead. Frank Losonsky was the last American and died in 2020. If there’s a survivor, he would be a Chinese pilot. But he would be over 100 years old, so I highly doubt it.

Now, if I’m correct, there’s 6 survivors the 1950 World Cup : Kurt Rey and Walter Beerli for Switzerland Antonio Carbajal from Mexico Carlos Rojas from Chile Dario Jara Saguier from Paraguay Sinisa Zlatkovic for Yugoslavia For Walter Beerli, I found one website saying he died in 1995, but it doesn’t seem trustworhty, as its source is an obituary for a guy named Walter… Burri !
