"Him death" being confirmed by ABC. http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=...&id=6245448 Can't be more than a few minutes from a BBC obit.
-
Keep an eye on him now. The passing of his long-time wife Cyd Charisse could seriously impact his desire to go on living.
-
Ah, two minutes of backbreaking research on my part could've made me aware of my own error, but thanks for the re-direction. Although now I'm wondering why they bothered to form their own mediocre duos rather than just being a mediocre brother act.
-
Just to clarify, this is Seals from Seals & Crofts fame, right?
-
He's dead! Edited to include link to obituary: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/26/movies/2...amp;oref=slogin

From what I've been lead to believe, it isn't so much that pancreatic cancer is brutal much as it is usually a secondary cancer, and as such it's already somewhere else, doing more damage. But hey - cancer's gotta start somewhere, so you never know.

A couple of stories down on whatever this website is there is a suggestion (in a sympathetic tone which may be uncomfortable for some readers) that Manson Family member Susan Atkins is not expected to survive the year due to brain cancer. The closest I've seen in a reputable source was something a few weeks ago saying she had been "admitted to hospital for tests," and given the nature of this website, such a severe prognosis may be rather exaggerated. Worth keeping an eye on, though.

Not terribly interesting but nevertheless nice piece on John Babcock the last known surviving Canadian vet, looking fairly spry (although the photos are from last summer). Although no news really means simply "no news."

This could (and probably has or will) be posted in several other threads, but Humphrey Lyttelton has died, according to his personal website.

Looks confirmed to me. I'm too lazy to do the research; historically, what's the DL's success rate for #1 seeds?
-
It's been posted elsewhere, but figured this thread should come back with the passing of Foggy.

Ola Brunkert, drummer for ABBA, found dead in a freak Spanish gardening accident.

Anne Francis, actress from Forbidden Planet, Bad Day at Black Rock, Funny Girl and various other movies, has a cancerous chunk of lung removed and is now undergoing chemotherapy. Article says she's also suffered serious weight loss.

I just saw the Terkel Interview which I believe your haphazardly referencing on whichever versioin of BBC World News my cable provider in Toronto prefers; he looked about as good as you can expect from someone of his years, and gave a very lucid interview, only slightly marred by his general elderly-man-slow-speech.

Man, JD's gonna do a LOT of rolling over once he gets his grave. I could see legions of true Salinger fans picketing studios demanding they not make such a movie. Especially since it's too late to cast Akim Tamiroff (he make beeg joke).
-
The way I figure it, his death is the only thing which might, might, see a further Salinger publication. As a fan of the Glass Family and his other three main publications, I'd love to see more of him, although I wouldn't be surprised if all of his personal papers were destroyed after his death.

In the true spirit of December deathpooling, Coffey has up and died before December 31st and saved everyone the trouble of seeking a BBC obit.

The thing that makes him (and Al Molinaro) worth considering is that they're fairly big guys. I don't how "in shape" they are at their age or if they are technically overweight, but generally, the heart gives out on guys their size well before the age they are now. An overweight octogenarian is always worth considering.

Update on Tony Snow - made a TV appearance on Jon Stewart last night. Looking a lot thinner with greyer hair, but otherwise seemed quite cheerful and robust.
-
Because he also wrote "Franny and Zooey," the most wonderful thing written this side of 1900.
-
Regarding Tony Snow - I haven't heard any real developments about his health since March, and according to this This interview the cancer is officially in remission. He may be worth keeping an eye on but as of yet, he isn't a slam-dunk terminal case like Tammy Faye was.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see why Cuba would be crazy secretive about Castro's death, be it current or eventual. I don't see them as some strange enemy like the USSR who wants to keep the rest of the world in confusion; other than the strange relationship they have with the USA, they try to promote themselves to the rest of the western world as any other country. From both a practical and image perspective I don't really see any advantage in his death being kept a secret.
-
And now they're reporting that he's died.

Steinbrenner's overseas fame might also be augmented through his representation on Seinfeld.
