    The Dead Of 2008

First Elizabeth Spriggs, now Hugh Lloyd: Is this the Curse of Dr Who Season 24? Richard Briers had better watch out.... Bad news for Chester City too, "one of the most poorly supported clubs in the Football League". He is noted as their "best known fan". Maybe Russ Abbott had better watch his step too...

    The Dead Of 2008

TV Writer Paul Makin has died aged 54. He created the cult comedy classic "Nightingales", which starred Robert Lindsay, James Ellis and David Threlfall, as well as contributing scripts for other TV shows. I'm always singing the praises of "Nightingales" as a little gem which has been forgotten by most (first aired 1990, only ran for 2 seasons). Sad to see its creator dead at such a tender age.

Clive gives a hint Veteran stars of 'Dad's Army' on sprightly form at anniversary reunion " "I'm going to try to stay alive till 5pm!" quipped 88-year-old Clive Dunn when asked how he'd be marking the occasion"

    The Dead Of 2008

Goodness! There's a blast from the past! (Tony Melody, not Dave!). Here is a link that does work (at least for now!) "Also paying tribute was Jack German, a trick cyclist turned businessman..."

    The Dead Of 2008

sh*t, he slipped through the net. Watch out for Kenneth Kendall and Richard Baker. They can't be far behind. Congratulations to Bloody Dead Rep for his/her first hit of the year on the DDP and a unique pick. A real treasure is lost! Was anyone else aware he was Boris Johnson's father in law? I certainly wasn't!

    The Chequered Flag

Can't remember whether there's a separate thread for rally drivers, but... China's leading rally driver Xu Lang has been killed during a rally in Russia. Unfortunate way to go: "hit on the head by the tow hook of a trailer which was trying to recover his car".

    Hospitalised!

Kelsey Grammer has mild heart attack I hope he makes a speedy recovery. He had a pretty traumatic upbringing, and many family tragedies (father and sister both murdered, twin half-brothers killed whilst scuba diving, attempted suicide of his second wife), so it would be a shame if something as mundane as heart trouble were to do for him.

Well if there's a Star Trek version of that, then someone else is on the chopping block. First Pevney and now Emmy-award winning composer Alexander Courage. So be it! The curse of "Star Trek" has struck again: producer Robert Justman has been beamed up.
