    The Dead - 2007

Well now, if we're starting to list people who aren't dead, how about this chap: Neil Preston, "Man who died five times praises hospital" "He jokes about his tattoos - two horses on his stomach that have no hooves thanks to surgery - and his navel is now on his right side" I wish him well!

Uruguayan Danny Bergara, legendary former Stockport County manager, has died: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/26072007/1/h...rgara-dies.html He was the first ever foreign (i.e. from outside the UK and Ireland) manager in English football when he took over at Rochdale in 1988. A great character who will be sorely missed! Slightly more detail here

    Alex Higgins (And Snooker)

Very peculiar how Small thinks Higgins got £20k because 'his face fits'. Higgins has had more run-ins with the snooker authorities than everyone else combined. Given the ravages that Alex's face has undergone in recent years, I doubt if it fits anywhere any more! By the way, why is Torres shaking hands with Ronnie Corbett in the "RELATED VIDEO" link to the right of the link included above?

    Wishful Thinking Death List

I think I know who this guy might vote for: http://www.ejazznews.com/modules.php?op=mo...r=0&thold=0 "I'd say you can see right through Posh Spice except for the fact that she's so damn skinny you don't have to ... A woman with baseball-sized boobs glued to her chest, who looks like she hasn't eaten during this century ... Next time, just print a picture of a hanger, that's all Posh Spice is. She's even dumber than most models. Uneducated, created by the knife and sporting an unending desire to be famous, she trumps everybody with an education ... She's just another sports star's wife. No more, no less. Squeegee her off the public radar PLEASE!" By the way, when deciding where to post this, I did a search on the Death List Forum for the last 7 days with the keyword "Beckham" and got the "nothing returned" message. I think we can be rightly proud of ourselves for that!

    The Dead - 2007

Pianist and Holocaust Survivor Natalia Karp Dies at 96: http://www.playbillarts.com/news/article/6779.html Re her time in Plaszów concentration camp: "Celebrating his birthday around the time of Karp's arrival was camp commandant Amon Goeth, portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in the film Schindler's List. "We were being taken in a bunker to be shot when I was told I would have to play at his birthday party," Karp told The Independent in 2005. "I had not played since 1939 and my fingers were stiff. The guests were all looking at me and Goeth called me 'Sarah'—the Nazis called all Jewish women Sarah—and told me to 'play now.' I sat down and started to play Chopin's [posthumous C-sharp minor] Nocturne because I have always found it very sad." Moved, Goeth proclaimed, "Sie soll leben" ["She shall live"]. Karp replied, "not without my sister," and the commandant agreed. The pair spent ten months in the camp before being shipped to Auschwitz in 1944."

    A Joke

Not a joke as such, but this story made me laugh: "Benoit Derosiers, 51, who police said was so inebriated that he could barely speak when stopped for DUI and who had trouble standing, beat the charge in Provincial Court in Sudbury, Ontario, in April when he proved to the judge a "legal necessity" for driving drunk: He had just attempted suicide and thus was forced to rush himself to the nearest hospital in order to get psychiatric care to head off another attempt" Above courtesy of http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/191337 Nothing to do with death, but on the same page: "Lolita Bullock turned herself in to sheriff's deputies in Jacksonville, N.C., in May, confessing to robbing a Bank of America a week earlier. She then immediately requested the "crimestoppers" reward money, which (since she was then under arrest) she asked be given to her friend who accompanied her" and... "Internationally known West Papuan freedom-fighter Jacob Rumbiak, 49, who was once locked up for 10 years by Indonesia as a political prisoner, was convicted in April of three separate incidents, on the same day in 2005, of masturbating in public on trains in Australia (where he is a research associate at RMIT University). According to Melbourne's The Age newspaper, his record includes arrests for at least three other, similar offenses on trains or airliners. Of the latest conviction, according to The Age's reporter, "If Rumbiak was humiliated (by the judge's decision) . . . he showed no sign of it," and following the verdict, he shook hands with the police investigator"

    The Dead - 2007

Richard Franklin, Australian film director, has died at the age of 58. Probably his most notable film was "Psycho II", which is (obviously) not a patch on the original, but a pretty brave and commendable effort.

Shaun's too busy fighting his own anti-anti-smoking campaign: http://www.nme.com/news/happy-mondays/29629 Yes, that is Shaun on the right with Bez. So much for smoking to keep your weight down! He should team up will fellow renegades Joe Jackson and Slash from G&R. Ironically, I suspect Slash might be paying a visit to his home town of Smoke on Trent in the next month: http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1274659,00.html

    The Dead - 2007

One for all you Leeds fans (any left?!). Dave Simmons, who scored one of the goals that saw Don Revie's mighty Leeds United go out of the FA Cup at the hands of lowly Colchester United in 1971, has died aged 58: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/ely/2...4f319344b14.lpf "The Times called the result a "miracle", describing how Mr Simmons and strike partner Ray Crawford made World Cup-winner Jack Charlton look like a "dithering novice". OK, OK, I see it's in the footy thread, but as that is in the "extra-curricular" area, I believe it is noteworthy enough to be here too!
