Search over! It was this lot: Freur ... who later became "Underworld" and had the hit "Born Slippy". Info on the squiggle nonsense

It's only 9th January and we're already on page 7 of this thread! Come on, it's supposed to be for reporting near misses, not lovers' tiffs!
-
Thanks for that, M-L! If anyone can remember the band I'm thinking of, post it here. I think they only had one hit some time around the late 80s, or possibly a little later. It was supposedly pronounced something like "ffrrrrrrr" - how stupid is that?
-
Mike Gius of !!! Never heard of him / them, but another to add to this thread! How would you pronounce the band's name? Are they a bit like that 80s band whose name was some weird symbol*? I'll post a pic if I can find one (might be a bit difficult to put through a search engine, though!) * No, I don't mean "The Artist formerly known as..."

Ironically, I was flitting through the TV channels this morning, and there he was on Sunday Style looking very healthy and showing off his private gym! Looked like a fairly recent clip.

Anna is apparently doing panto in Basingstoke this festive season. Here is an interesting site which you might want to use in finding out where your favourite star (has-been?) is appearing over the next few weeks (or alternatively where to take a 50-mile detour from your normal journey to avoid the scary possibility of seeing "H" from Steps or Stu Francis emerging from the side-door of a theatre) -

Olive (Anna Karen) is alive and well and living in Ilford Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't she some kind of model before turning to acting? Interestingly, I see from IMDB that her first film was entitled Nudist Memories. Regarding the subsequent comments on Ms. Karen, the clue is in the word "actress". I think you will find that they used some very complex stuff called "make-up", along with false teeth and warts, and ill-fitting clothes, the result being that in "OTB" she looked down right ugly. I'm sure there were many spreads of her in the Sunday tabloids at the time in which, whilst not quite competing with the likes of Audrey Hepburn, she looked rather fetching. I'm sure she had a pretty good figure on her, which showed off very well in a swimsuit. -
Julio Iglesias Sr. ... it's the crooner's dad, actually, a gynaecologist, also known as "Julio Iglesias Puga" apparently. He has died at the age of 90. "Five years ago, Iglesias Puga hit the headlines when he married 42-year-old RONNA KEIT in Florida, who he went on to have a son JAMIE with, in May 2004. Last week, the couple announced they were expecting a second child together next year" !!! Well, there's a lesson to us all there! (also noted in here in separate thread)

Well known to yourself and Tempus Fugit, who are obviously experts in the field of Russian cinema, but to who else? (Will you two be having arguments over the spelling of his name?)

"She is bed ridden and requires continual care, but apart from being slightly hard of hearing, she is otherwise said to be in good health" Surely that's a contradiction?! I could understand it coming from an NHS manager, though: "Mrs. Hongo is bed ridden and requires continual care, but she's costing us money and we require the bed, so we've discharged her"

What are the odds on this? End of story for Rory and Cory

A bit like the The Pretenders, who managed to lose 1/2 their original line up in two days. The deaths did not occur within 2 days of each other. The sequence of events was as follows: 14th June 1982: Pete Farndon fired because of drug problem 16th June 1982: James Honeyman-Scott dies of drug overdose 14th April 1983: Pete Farndon found dead in his bath (drug overdose) Thought that needed clearing up!

Marc Lawrence Archetypal movie bad guy, he was blacklisted after testifying before the House Un-American Activities Committee and implicating several co-workers as communist sympathisers. Died aged 95. Recent appearances to note include "From Dusk Till Dawn" as the motel owner. Also featured in a couple of Bond films. ""Lawrence was perhaps the only character actor of the 1930s and 1940s still being cast in similar gangsterish roles in the 1980s and 1990s" (Leonard Maltin) IMDB entry Famous scene in "Diamonds are Forever" (where he has an uncredited role as a "thug" and throws Plenty out of a hotel window into a swimming pool below): James Bond: "Exceptionally fine shot." Thug: "I didn't know there was a pool down there."
