Surprising as you might find it, the Internet does extend out past the borders of the USA. In the lands that exist outside those borders, you may also be interested to learn that there are vast swathes of different cultures, music, languages, arts and all sorts of other weird things that you needn't waste your time with. I think it'll be beneficial for both you and the 6 billion or so non-USA-residents if you stay on your side of the line. Very well put. Nowt wrong with lime juce you scurvy git, At the end of the day WE HAVE A HISTORY And a culture.

Nor do I. And I should know, being an authority on such matters.

Strip The Moderaters Of Their Meagre Powers?
Tuber Mirum replied to Star Crossed's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
That's about the long and short of it, Mr Josco. Except it wouldn't hurt to add that in every conflict there exists, for all involved, the potential for learning a positive lesson. Let us hope that wisdom prevails. -
Strip The Moderaters Of Their Meagre Powers?

The lowest form, I've been told. Ever considered a career in moderatEing yourself, Star Crossed? You are excellently qualified. -
Strip The Moderaters Of Their Meagre Powers?
Tuber Mirum replied to Star Crossed's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
It seems that this topic hasn't been adequately dealt with Here a few thoughts from one Moderator: They are a valid institution because they were appointed by those who run this site. They don't need any more justification that that. This isn't the United Nations. Tip for SC: Think- H-U-M-O-U-R. Aye, opinions vary on the face of the earth. I've heard there are even some people out there who don't believe George W. Bush should be president of the USA, and he was democratically elected. Wasn't he? I'm not sure what the current deathlist definition is, but I'd hazard to suggest that or old friend Johnny Irony has been at work here. Bang on, Mr. Fugit! TLC, you may have something there. I'll get back to you. If you offend someone in the chat, you run the risk of getting kicked. Or you may just get kicked for fun. Doesn't do to take things too seriously now. Not your best effort at a witty putdown Mr. Windsor. More likely to provoke anger than the necessary reflection. Yup. Yup. If and when the Moderaters get scrapped, StarCrossed can rest assured he had nothing to do with it. That is true. Star Crossed: Stop getting so irate about our mischievous little moderaters. It's all just a bit of fun. And try not to say "post-whore" quite so often. It's not funny after a while. Windsor: Stop provoking Star Crossed. He doesn't like it. I've issued a couple of warnings and removed all signature pictures which involve kittens. This thread will stay open until tomorrow (other mods permitting). Then it's getting deleted. -
I saw Satyagraha. It was pretty long, but the hypnotic effect of all those repeated figures made it seem like about 10 minutes. I shouldn't worry about it being hard work, or boring. The chap who sang the role of Mr. Gandhi was, as opera singers tend to be, somewhat fatter than he should have been in his loincloth.

Well said that Tongan Fellow! Now go and tell it to those "exiled" Cubans living in Florida.

I completely understand that and I would do exactly the same in your position. I just wanted everyone to know I wasn't making stuff up and I wasn't listening to wild rumors. I had solid sources close to the situation who let me know what I knew. It was just a matter of time before it came out. I still don't know why it was being kept secret for so long. Perhaps I'll find out now. In any event, I'm following up on the age question, because I was told directly he was born in 1904. We'll see if that one comes through also, or perhaps was off. In any event, I wanted to let you all know where I was coming from in case you had occasion to depend on my site's reliability in the future. Good luck with your game. Game? Game? What do you mean "game"? It's an education, it's fun, it's a complete lifestyle man! I'll give you game!

This thread may stay. There is one on football after all, which is no more relevant. However, if it does go, the above quote was worth the thread's short life. If I ever need to describe the attraction of opera, I now have a nice concise way. That's not Opera, that's one particular opera. You couldn't describe Ligeti's Le Grande Macabre like that. The orgasms all take place under a trapdoor under the stage, and you don't know when they are, just that they happen. In Satyagraha by Philip Glass there are no orgasms at all, and in R. Strauss' Rosenkavalier they happen at the end of the overture before the curtain goes up.

Pavarotti used to be a great singer but he should have retired 15 years ago. Corelli was very good it's true but he died in 2003. Gilbert and Sullivan have been dead for slightly longer. Perhaps Harrison Birtwistle will die soon, we can only hope. Or Peter Maxwell Davies. Or Malcolm Arnold, who didn't write any operas.

If we parted? That might be better for us. We'll hang ourselves tomorrow, Unless Godot comes. And if he comes? We'll be saved.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries Etc...2006
Tuber Mirum replied to Tuber Mirum's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Happy Birthday Six! -
As I see it, deathlist.net is just a bit of fun. Perhaps it sometimes gets out of hand, but still it's just fun. It doesn't do to take it too seriously, that's how senseless disputes start.

Ever heard of Feng Shui, my anonymous friend?

I vote this one gets a couple of bonus points for including the word "gosh". Surely a ranter first. What's the Tongan word for Africans then? Or Chinese?

Why can't they just bloody well leave things alone? -
Wouldn't hold my breath on that one. She'll be right as rain in six months. You mark my words.

Read Any Good Books Lately?
Tuber Mirum replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
That's a sh*t load of books. Still, I suppose his holidays are about 20 weeks long, so he may get through one or two of them. I wonder if he has learned to read without moving his lips? -
Is the following also vandalism, or just eerie coincidence?

Your Least Impressive Celebrity Encounters
Tuber Mirum replied to Phantom's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I walked by Sir Simon Rattle in the corridor last week. I nodded hello, he didn't say anything. Which is probably preferable to "Oh F**k, nae you!" -
Just took another look at that seemerot site. Don't know why I hadn't done it before, but I took a wee look at the source code (as the Late Mr Yeti once advised in a different thread), and in addition to the META Keywords "motorcycle insurance", I noticed that the "live webcam feed" is nothing but an animated GIF image. You are looking at the same 4 or 5 images repeating themselves endlessly. Not at somebody rotting in their grave. So the whole thing is, in fact, utter bullshit. Am I the only one thick enough to have taken this long to notice that?

Iain Banks? It would certainly explain Tempus Fugit's enthusiasm for defending him.

That wasn't Micky Rooney you idiot. That was me. How are things Judy? Syphillis clearing up yet?

Look folks, the HDP has it's own thread too! Isn't it exciting that Josco's Jokers have scored a hit? Entries for the 2007 competition will be taken around the middle of December sometime. There will be a few small changes to the rules and the scoring system, but the basic principle will remain the same. We'll keep you informed, probably. Pretenders to the Choir Invisible, your mails are bouncing. Next year we shall very likely be introducing a penalty system for competitors whose mails bounce.
