    Kurt Waldheim

Seems to me some folks are prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, and some aren't. We don't really know, but I personally would trust him only slightly more than GW Bush. He may not have perpetrated any atrocities, but he can't have been far away, and the smell of it is in his clothes. Those socialists may be socialists, whom Mr. guest, as a good Austrian, obviously despises, but that doesn't exclude them from having a good point once in a while. He doesn't need a bullet in the head, but he should simply have had the decency to stay out of politics, because with his history, and the allegations it was possible to make against him, he has done a lot of damage to Austria's reputation. I see Austria is very sensibly turning it's back on Schwarzenegger, whilst Arnie is going round saying he thinks Waldheim is a great guy "and it doesn't bother me that he was a Nazi". If some Austrians would just admit to being guilty once in a while instead of giving long winded and unconvincing arguments to the contrary, we could forget about it and just get on with things. But it's not in their nature, seemingly.

Quite an interesting article. It seems to me, Waldheim would have been doing Austria and himself a favour if he had stayed out of politics. Sorry Mr. Guest, but the man is decidedly fishy. At best.

BBC report. Lots of HDP points for Obiskobilob. Next down would be Charles Haughey, then.

I think it's about time we had this picture again.

Was this what you were looking for? I wasn't aware that Mr. McDonald was one of us. Anyway, he is talking stuff and nonsense.

    It wasn't my idea.

    Kurt Waldheim

I can see this is becoming yet another "we didn't say what you're saying we said, and by the way, Waldheim was a Nazi" exchanges just like the last one and the one before. Can somebody point me to the place where a Deathlister said that all Austrians were in the SS, cos I'm danged if I can find it.

That woman is certainly taking her time decaying. How do they keep it light in there? Does someone have to go and change the bulb every few months? Their next project looks intriguing.

    Queen Elizabeth II

This referred to non-Brits who appeared on UK stamps. Roger Taylor (Queen drummer) was one of the few living non-royals ever to make it onto a British stamp. Him and a bunch of cricketers and an umpire, it would seem. Which is what I was trying to say.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Are all those cricketers on there dead? I thought there was some business of alive people not being allowed on stamps. Or is it not a real photo and they're just generic cricketers? There was that business with the chap from Queen.

    Shelley Winters

There was an old woman named Shelley, who appeared in the flicks and on telly. Given half of a chance, (or less) it was off with her pants, (or dress) for a bump with Burt Lancaster's belly. For example.

    Upping The Ante

When I voted "drunken genius" I didn't mean to imply I thought 52 names was a good idea. It is a bloody stupid idea actually.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

I wouldn't be so sure. The book isn't called "The 100 People who are Screwing up America Most" It's just a partisan attack on 100 people whom the author doesn't like. With a considerable political bias. Cheap and contemptible. Is our friend Declan McCullagh in there?

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

But seriously, I'm currently very much enjoying Roddy Doyle's Play That Thing, the sequel to A Star Named Henry. Grand stuff and Lous Armstrong is in it. For people who enjoy nasty deaths, nightmares and general unpleasantness I'd recommend something by Iain Banks. A Song of Stone perhaps, or Canal Dreams. Horrid, horrid, horrid!

    Jimmy Savile

Dead people in general. He's very litigious by the way. Just thought you'd like to know that. Lets resurrect this when he does pop his clogs then. I thought he was already dead. Reportedly. Chris Morris (of Brasseye fame) said so. On the radio.

    The Death Penalty

I shall try one more time, then someone else can have a go. 1: You can't ever justify murdering someone with economic arguments. 2. Someone won't reoffend whilst out on parole if they aren't released. I's a completely different problem that people are often released when they shouldn't be, and in absolutely no way an argument for the death penalty. Admit it, you just fancy the thought of being allowed to kill people. Basta.

    Jimmy Savile

    Allegedly.

    The Death Penalty

Aha! Sound Financial Reasoning rears its ugly head. Always an argument, though I don't think even Mrs. T used it very often as a justification for murdering people. Shame on you Mr Souls! The angels will weep for you.

    Jimmy Savile

I've always heard that there is a big scandal to break about him when he finally dies. Is that it? I'd presumed though that it was something to do with his relationship with his mother. Reportedly it had to do with his dead mother. Allegedly.

    Clive Dunn

Did you ever sell him Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers by Harry Harrison? It`s a rollicking good read.

    The Death Penalty

Wouldn't a lifetime in prison, living under harsh conditions, with no possibility of parole, be far crueller than a quick execution? Have you no mercy? That would be for the offender to judge, I suppose. A Re-Education Programme might serve to break the monotony of pondering their wrongdoings. It needn`t involve electric shocks. Shouldn`t that be "Lashings of Ginger Pop?
  23. Tuber Mirum

    The Death Penalty

HOS you are simply saying that since we are bad, why shouldn`t we be worse already? And I`m not murdering anyone in Iraq for oil. Wouldn`t you sooner pay an extra sixpence in taxes not to have to have taken part in a murder? Not that it would be that much, given the length and expense of the appeals system in the US. Lock `em up with no access to a pool table. And the same for the "elected" politicians who murder people in Iraq for oil.
  24. Tuber Mirum

    The Death Penalty

    No it isn't.

    The Death Penalty

The death penalty isn't cheaper than lifelong imprisonment, it isn't morally justifiable and it isn't necessary. The only purpose it serves is to show us how utterly evil those people are whom we have chosen to be setting us an example. Worst thing is, if Arnie and Bush ever did get locked up like they deserve, they would be living like Lord Archer in some purpose-built luxury bunker. Stick 'em in Aboo Gray-hab I say. Bloody bush. he said "new-kyoo-lur" again yesterday.
