    And "spit" was spelled differently.

    Walter Cronkite

It certainly doesn't look like Cronkite is a classic case of pining away after the death of a much-loved spouse. Given the recent improvement his quality of life, we can forget that plan for the time being. That is, assuming Carly's sister is less of a boiler/Battleaxe than the late Mrs Cronkite was.

I didn't see that joke as racist, just an embarassing view of contemporary attitudes. Same with that poor girl on the Rosa Parks thread. She isn't racist. A bit backwards, naiv or stupid perhaps, but racism implies evil. Let's not be PC fascists. As if there were ever any real danger of that!

Dear me Windsor! You need help from the evangelicals! (This is my favourite bit of that site. We need to get both of those guys on the forum!)

    Benn There, Done It?

Note the word indirectly. Vilebody is no lefty and with such vehemence must be batting for the other side. They've not been responsible for any deaths have they? I'll give Vilebody the time to estimate the deaths caused directly or indeed indirectly by successive US Presidents since WWII In your own time.... Aha! The old "You're just as bad as we are so it's all right for us to be bad because if you criticised us for it, you'd be hypocrites" argument. Wedgie Benn is an odd case. He really believed that if socialism was done properly, it would work, but the Labour party of the time was weak and indicisive, and Benn failed to become leader so we shall never know if he would have done a better or a worse job than the others. He was a bit of a Dogmatist in that he believed in dialogue as opposed to confrontation even if that meant associating with undesirables, but on the other hand who are the goodies and who the baddies? Figures of who killed how many people when are almost always exaggerated depending on who is telling whom about whom. Was it not Churchill who said: "History will be kind to me, because I intend to write it that way"? Something like that anyway. Poor old Wedgie, I hope he lasts a bit longer. He may or may not have been wrong about many things, I'm not qualified to judge that, but he really was a fine, genuine, honest, upstanding human being who would go out of his way to help old ladies over the street and such. Didn't he let a homeless person live in his garden shed for a bit? Perhaps that was someone else. And now, since this is my 1000th Post, a humble attempt at poetry: A splendid young chap name of 'Tater Not content as a mere moderator. Said "what I most want, Is to be a Post-Twunt. I expect I'll turn into one later" (Boom, Boom)

Is it just me, or does the Captain season seem to come round earlier every year?

I spoke to Jimmy Edwards once. On the street in Aberdeen. He's dead now of course.

    Would that be Art Garfunkel?

Well she seems to know who YOU are. Looks like you've got a mention on her blog! That's wrong enough that I'm not trembling in my shoes at the moment. But I suppose what goes around comes around. Perhaps she thinks I'm Mr Mückenspucker.

    Most Obsessive Deathlisters

Well I'm feeling a bit rough this evening and am going for an early night. I expect Anubis will have bitten the bullet and taken the plunge or whatever before I return. I personally don't expect to reach 1000 before the end of next week at the earliest.

My own theory is that given the archaic nature of the Forum software, it won't be able to count beyond 3 figures and will reset to zero on reaching 1000.

Been Too Long On The Road

Hi Whiskey-Head. Who did you email? Can we read it? Don't tell me you mean your post in this forum. If you can't tell the difference between that and an email, then you could be in danger of being ridiculed as an ignorant twunt, and we wouldn't want that, would we? Are you sure that's Whiskey in your head and not some inferior spirit? Whiskey doesn't usually do that to people in my experience. Be careful with those animals, there are laws against that in many countries.

    Peter, Paul and Mary

Aye it was Peter Yarrow.. Apparently he pleaded guilty and said he regretted it. Presumably what he regretted was failing to seduce the girl effectively. The girl in question was 14 years old, which means had it happened here in Germany nobody would have batted an eyelid. Except perhaps the girl. Doesn't Peter look like Michael Fish? What do you think Anubis?

Can I have a link? Here you go Harvester old thing. They have a separate forum for off topic stuff where they "discuss" things.

Then from the TV side of things there are Raymond Baxter, Kenneth Kendall and Richard Baker. All of whom have been mentioned before, but whose potential for dropping shouldn't be underestimated.

Well, this thread is as good as any other to write my opus 800 in. regards, Hein That posting is hardly an opus now is it? Opus it is, without a doubt. Magnum opus probably not.

Stevens stopped making music in 1979, aged about 31, more or less at the height of his popularity. Now he runs primary schools, not traditionally a life-threatening profession. I suppose he might get shot accidentally by the police or CIA.

    A Balancing Factor

What? I know plenty of people who are useless at all that other stuff, but I have yet to meet someone who hasn't mastered the use of a door handle. What's the story, Ron? Fascinating stuff He's also not that good at writing poetry, a thing he fails to mention in this attempt at same. I find it hard to put my finger on what makes this guy's poems seem even worse to me than those of Garfunkel or Nimoy. They are so criminally dull that they appear to have completely bypassed "so bad that they're good" and gone straight for the uttermost depths of artlessness. The fact that there are thousands and thousands of them, one no better than the next doesn't do the man any credit either.

Can we talk of degrees of guilt? Or is it just convenient or comforting for the guilty as hell to believe that others are "more guilty" than they?

    A Balancing Factor

On a par with this, perhaps? In my heart Is the seed of the tree Which will be me. Nourished by understanding Warmed by friends Fed by loved ones Matured by wisdom Tempered by tears.

    A Balancing Factor

There are about 2,999 more just like that one, apparently. Oh dear! "Inadequateness" isn't a word anyway. It's "inadequacy".
