Turkey's last died a few years back. Japan has none left, all colonial troops are gone apart from one Australian and two Canadians. All the New Zealand lot have gone, and all those from the West Indies & North Africa. However it is possible that there are some Arabs & Indians (indeed there was such a claim in one of Michael Palin's travelogues) alive, but finding evidence & tracking them down is virtually impossible. Similiar to the Russians, but remember they had the revolution & a war in Finland as well, not to mention Stalin's purge, so it's certainly possible that they have none. The last two KNOWN ones died in 2005. There MIGHT also be some Cubans etc, but it's virtually impossible to confirm. The trouble is the language barrier, and evidence, and the werewithwal of the veterans themselves to make themselves known. I reckon there's more out there from the above countries & the countries we already have but, it's proving it that's difficult. How many Yanks left?

What about Turkey, Japan, maybe some Arabs who fought with Lawrence, the colonial troops, be they ANZAC, Indians, Africans.

You NEED 50 Euros!!!!!! That's - like - thirty quid. It's Saturday tomorrow, get a comb, some paper, a dog on a bit of string and - sort of - hum your way through a medley of popular tunes in a busy street. I mean, how hard can it be to get 50 Euros? He might be from somewhere like Serbia, 50 Euros is about a weeks wages there.

I think your friend may be the happy one

Maybe they've gone on holiday to Gallefray (sic?). Start to worry when one of them shows up looking uncannily like the Tom Baker Doctor and one of the glamorous assistants (take your pick there), while their children run round the garden dressed as Cybermen. Now that would scare me and make me think I was in Eerie, Indiana!

Oh come on Jon, stay, you'll join us, just give it time.......

I'm moving back there soon sadly but to a nice area, it's on a hill and in the Summer if the natives riot I'll be able to see the fires dancing in the distance as Manningham burns once more. On a football note I hope Bradford City go down too, I just pray my beloved Halifax don't make it a hat trick of West Yorkshire sides to go down.

Well, this kind of rubbish doesn't endear me to Leeds any more, but considering I hate Leeds anyway, it doesn't change anything. In fact it's almost typical that such a rant comes from this hell-hole of a place. Leeds after all, is home to Jane Tomlinson, Dennis Wise, Ken Bates & Leeds United, the most hated team in the entire football league & thousands of sad chav wannabee muppets **** Well, Jon, there may well be some that live with their parents (nope, not me) & have limp wrists (of which I have neither) but at least none of us are sad, stupid & pathetic enough to still be living in Leeds. *** So, as NAP says, whose the pathetic one here? As for the snooker, maybe worth a punt on veteran Ken Doherty if he sorts himself out & plays to his ability. ** (Apologies to Vinegar Tits, the exception of course, to the rule & I'm sure it's not as bad as all that.) PS Come on Hull City, Barnsley, QPR, Leicester & anyone else in the Championship relegation fight. I live in Leeds but to be fair, if I went and moved the North Yorkshire sign a mile I'd be okay, I'd be Harrogate I have to agree with the football comments, I hope they go down and go bust. Their evening games cause me so many traffic problems trying to get home.

Hi Jon, good to see a fellow Leeds person on here, hope you enjoy it

No mention of c**ts though. Is that Frank of "Ask Frank" fame?

The map sums him up for sure

Picking De Havilland doesn't worry me, it's always good to have some long shots. Some people's lives end slowly and they fade away, others effectively fall off the cliff face, who's to say she won't be a Beachy Head as opposed to a Malvern Hill?

Don't tell me, he turned up in the same gear as you... You could have tried to claim you were David Bowie?

Did you win? More to the point, are you Carol Vorderman? It was your mention of your wilting flaps in the DL Secrets thread that has aroused my suspicions... Cheers, BHB Or you're Des Lynham, Des being short for Desdemona? -

Good call, you must be referring to "If you call your Dad he can stop it all"? Or is it a sly dig at Miss Middleton's apparent "common" status in the eyes of the Royals? Koo Stark'll be made up someone's come along and taken her Royal Reject title. Maybe she should do the decent thing and sell her story, it's the fashionable thing to do these days. Random headline might be; "Wills beat me with Heather Mills' leg whilst high on Crystal Meth".

I'm going to be annoyed if she discovered this before the turn of the year, there's mega points value there. My God I am shocked, are Liberty X really still going? They might not be for much longer considering Michelle's plight.

From an anti-Man Utd point of view, I'm pleased Chelsea won. Blackburn would have rolled over against Utd - at least Chelsea will provide stiff opposition and try to thwart their Treble/Double/any trophy at all ambitions... On what basis would Blackburn have rolled over against Manchester Utd.? I didn't realise anyone was anti-Man Utd. these days, I thought everyone had switched their attention to the rich pretenders. On the basis that United rarely lose FA Cup finals to underdogs (Southampton (1976) and Everton (1995)excepted). Blackburn would have been like Newcastle in 1999, a pushover, for all of Sparky's knowledge/experience. If you think people have turned away from hating Man Utd, watch if they win the Treble again, it'll all come flooding back. Chelsea are like Leeds in the 1970s - their time is now and will soon pass as will the fashionable hatred. Yes you're probably right but I think the hatred for Man Utd. isn't as intense as it was while Beckham was there. If Man Utd. win the treble people might be happier that they won it as opposed to Chelsea doing the treble/ quadruple. Hopefully Chelsea will end up in the same situation as Leeds, especially considering they're a company with expenses far outweighing income, and whilst it's all well and good having a kind loaded chairman, if he gets bored and walks away who's going to pick up the wages tab? You can guarantee you'll never hear "Abramovich out" chanted at Stamford Bridge.

A bit late for that Olvy, what with the League Cup already won and all Ooops, I should have said "they won't win anything worthy of note", I'll get my coat

Having been at Old Trafford yesterday for the semi-final, I'd like to congratule Chelsea on a fine performance. A fine performance of whinging, diving and general cheating. Outplayed and outsung they're lucky to be in the final, it always helps when it's quite obvious who the Ref's playing for. Blackburn should have buried them in the second half and ultimately only have themselves to blame. If there's a God of Football, Chelsea will win nothing this season, Mourinho will go, Abramovich will get bored and sell up and Chelsea will return to what they really are, just a club from London who wish they had the pedigree and the history of clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United. Although I couldn't bet on it I'd reckon in terms of Trophy's and titles won Huddersfield Town have probably won more than Chelsea. So it's a well deserved for your display yesterday and you can have a Graham Pollesque one for thinking your a big club.

Agreed. Everyone seems to be in surprisingly good health. It's April and the panic's set in already? This year's going to be rather like Man Utd v Bayern Munich in 1999, as we head into late December the Grim Reaper's going to pop up at the near post and put a few souls into the back of the net.

Hmmm a potential for the 2008 list, murdered by an irate death lister? Aren't all politicians smug though? These are people who are probably average achievers in normal life, then find themselves sat on a 4/5 year pot of gold bringing in money they could only dream of earning if they had to actually go and do some bloody work. We can all get rich taking money off other people. I think it's all summed up when a fat ex. ships steward from Hull who can't keep his trousers on has the potential to have his fat finger over the nuclear button. There's no honour amongst thieves and this current mob certainly know how to steal from the rest of us, but don't worry, they'll get there's at some point, what goes around comes around.

I removed him from my list too. Thinking that he looked fine albeit a tad frail.Other than that he seemed to be in good spirits and not likely to drop dead for at least another year. Weird though, i just lent a copy of Slaughterhouse Five to a work colleague of mine only yesterday Well in that case - not wanting to be left out - I removed him from my shadow list too! He was on my database but never seriously considered. Seems he died after 'a fall', that venerable elderly standby. I always wanted to read one of his books but never got round to it. Sad fact: the recurring phrase Vonnegut used in his books, 'So it goes' was used as the title of a Granada TV pop programme in the mid-70s which featured the Sex Pistols... Wasn't that presented by Tony Wilson, a possible 2008 candidate?
