    Football

Hear hear. Although I am Welsh (family & heritage), I was born in England & have lived there for at least half my life. I have no problem with the average England fan & wish them the best. But before the game had EVEN KICKED OFF, Clive Tydelsey's xenophobic rantings immediately switched my support to Trinidad. I don't mind a bit of bias, but he really was too much. Peter Drury too, in the Ecuador v Costa Rica game. There were disaparaging remarks about the standards of the Welsh & Northern Irish National teams and Scottish League by Tydelsey during the game and then these media fuckwits can't understand why the majority of football fans from those three countries want anyone other than England to win. C'mon Sweden and Ecuador/Germany. Don't blame me, blame the media. Totally Spot on there OoO That is EXACTLY my opinion too, I have no grudge towards the English people whatsoever it's the way that damn Media constantly go on, and on, and on, and on and on, and on, and on and on, and on, and on and on, and on, and on and on, and on, and on and on, and on, and on and on....get the drift !! see it's annoying isn't it..God even the English must be sick hearing 1966!!! So in reality all it does is make us hope the sooner they go out the better, maybe then we can have some enterainment and just watch the football and I won't have to keep buying new TV's as I have a fine collection out in my lawn now. Have fun Scsi Of course the media in Sweden, Ecuador and Germany are not biased, and had Scotland won the World Cup in 1978, that would have been the last we would have heard of it.

    Billy Preston

Former humungous afro sporting 70s soul singer and keyboard player, Billy Preston is apparently in a bad way following an infection of the heart early in the year. An alcoholic and cocaine addict, he had a kidney transplant in 2002 following kidney failure. The new kidney subsequently failed and he now relies on dialysis 3 times a week to survive. More info here, this is the latest I could find. Sounds quite promising for 2007 if not before, though not of course for Billy.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2007

I read somewhere that Mark 'the Exorcist' Kermode, actually changed his given surname to Kermode. I don't know what is was originally, but I can only assume it must of been pretty bad to change it to Kermode.

    Not Exactly Famous...

Well they have finally got around to making a fitting memorial to the great man. I have never joined in on the, 'which thread to post on' debate, but I would have thought that someone who starred in 'Blake's 7', should not be in the 'not exactly famous' thread. It's an age thing I suppose. (Mine not Mr. Jackson's)

A drunken belch perhaps or a retch?

    Billy Preston

Yes, stretching it a bit with that one. How about Mick Fleetwood?

    Billy Preston

With Billy Preston's death, and assuming these things do actually occur in three's, then Michael Bolton and... er... Chuck Bury must be getting a bit worried.

    When Deathlisters Go Shopping

Failing that - there's always the curtain rail Multi-award winning Kitten-pole my arse. That's a 20 euro extendable shower curtain rail from Castorama. Except floor to ceiling rather than wall to wall. Bloody rip off!!!

I have a hunch you grasped the meaning perfectly through the gin haze Bruno. The man - ahem - pleasured himself somewhere just above 28,000 feet whilst sheltering in a hastily dug snow cave during a long, cold night on the world's highest mountain. Doug Scott is a real star, a man not known to respect limitations on his behaviour. On another occasion he crawled down Everest with two broken legs having been injured on a very tough ascent. He still lives - in darkest Cumbria, still climbs and still doesn't give a sh*t. This has been bothering me, wouldn't there be certain problems associated with the extreme cold? Numbness to name but one.

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2006

For some reason I have also been thinking long and hard about this. What is this thing about lists? Trying to create an illusion of order and control I guess. I settled on a list of songs that whilst I would concede are not the finest examples of musical endeavour, they are songs I would, today at least, most miss on this island. Anyone who knows me well would also be able to identify me from these choices. These hands (small but mighty)- Bobby Bland I can't quit you baby- Nine Below Zero The Saturday Boy- Billy Bragg These arms of mine- Otis Redding Le Sud- Nino Ferrer The Genius of Love- Tom Tom Club I found lovin'- Fat Back Band Manhatten-Kaboul- Renaud and Axelle Red

Perhaps the fact that your profile says you joined on 21st July might have something to do with it.

    Terrorists & Topical Terrorist Targets

To be honest it's really been debated. What would' Rock the boat' 'Don't sink the ship' mean? I would guess 'get it on' but don't fill up? Would that be a mass debate then Banshees?

    George Best

I am not sure if you are being serious, but every time the subject of the best footballer comes up I find myself thinking the same thing. The one he scored in the Park Lane end after a 'one-two' from a free kick from I think Ardiles, in the league cup against Manchester United was without doubt the finest thing I have ever seen on a football pitch.

    Near misses 2006

I have to admit, when I saw the headline on Teletext & it said "Singer Freddie dies", I'd thought I'd gone back in time to when Mercury died. I was desperately trying to rack my brains whilst waiting for the story to come up to think of a singer famous enough to be called "Freddie" (ie just the one name). I failed. When I read the report, I found out I'd never heard of him anyway. I was surprised to see he got a mention on CNN I didn't think he was that well known over this side of the Atlantic I would guess he is as well known in the U.K. (at least to anyone who is over 50 years old, or who had parents who loved music of that particular era, like mine) as several in this years DL. A quick poll carried out by me today of exactly one electrician, who has only ever visited Ireland, and can not speak more than a few words in English, proves that Freddie and his music reached the South of France as well.
