Well, it's over 24 hours since I started a thread so... The death of Mrs Ralph Vaughan-Williams was a timely reminder of the existence of widows much younger than their more famous husbands and wives. I think it's time we pooled our knowledge on those obit-worthy if low-profile survivors. The likes of Imelda Marcos, Betty Ford and Nancy Reagan are already on the DL radar. Let's limit this collection to those out of the headlines but still obit-worthy to DDP standards and beyond. I'd wager the following brace would score, even by the exacting standards of the CPDP. Step forward, Bing's bed-steady: Kathryn Crosby and Prime Minister's poetess partner: Mary Wilson.

The Sunday Express a couple of days back ran a long piece by Nadine Dories suggesting the best hope for a quick Tory comeback was to get Boris back in parliament and back as leader The Express - as I keep mentioning - has lost approximately 90% of its readers in a little over 30 years. -
Maybe to a guy keen on watching Trump motorcades?

There are those in public life willing to take a stand against terrorism and the sociopathic headcases who volunteer to carry out the worst acts thereof. It struck me listening to Judge Leonie Brinkema's remarks as she told the only person convincted of involvement in 9/11 that he would 'Die with a whimper' that some of these people may be signing their own death warrants. Her words might play well in middle America but I'll bet somewhere in darkest Afghanistan there's a bloke logged on to the only computer in the street, typing in her name and asking the big question: 'Where does that bitch live?' I think we need a thread that can bob up and down identifying these semi-suicidal outspoken types when their mouths put their entire well-being in danger.

Mention here that Dave Warby (son of the guy who holds the world water speed record) fancies a crack at it. That record has stood since 1978, the last two attempts - in the 80s - proved fatally dangerous to the Americans trying to win it back for their country. Progress reports here, incidentally, yer man Dave is middle aged and not exactly athletic in appearance: https://warbymotorsport.com/record-attempt/ He will, also, pilot the revamped Bluebird craft that killed its previous owner: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp9zlx5j127o

So, claims he was around in the mid-eighties (when Spitting Image's Lucan puppet was frequently popping up in the background of sketches etc.)

So, despite the discussion of the health problems of Hawkwind's 83-year-old sole remaining founder member Dave Brock that went on a few months back there's a small tour booked next year, and today the promise they'll close (i.e. play the last slot on Sunday night) at New Day, a festival they headlined last year by playing the final slot on Saturday. Nothing online suggesting Brock has been replaced in the stage line up, so I'm thinking there was a second opinion or tweaking of the meds that's kept him out there. Saw them close New Day in August, one of the best Hawkwind performances I've ever seen (and we're well into double figures where that's concerned) Predictably, Brock's not sharing too much personal information. So, I might just have to buy a ticket and take the form spotting for the team, or summat -

I'll leave it to the crew in charge to decide if we should subsume the Nobel laureate thread into this but I was struggling to see where else to post the fact that I've just read a remarkably chipper interview with Carl Djerassi 87 years old yesterday. The length and quality of his remarkable life doubtlessy improved by his involvement in the development of the birth control pill. He'd probably have been competing more strongly for resources, a seat on the bus, space in a supermarket aisle etc if every one-night stand in the last fifty years had resulted in a sprog, or summat. There are probably many other obit-worthy 'Tomorrow's World' types we should be listing here, before we list them in search of points.

A pontiff so considerate could at least have slipped a clue about the date to dead poolers!

Hang in there Andy, potentially our next Little Jimmy Dickens, a minor musical figure who hit terminal illness just as a year turned and suddenly gathered a fan-base of dead poolers - yer man below died 2 Jan 2015, and contributed mightily to the scores of dead pool teams

Rachel Reeves is trying to get inflation down But it appears some achievements on her CV were inflated, expect the Daily Mail to go hog wild on this sporadically for as long as she's chancellor https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwy12820kwwo -

The movie version of The Salt Path is finally booking, which will throw the current state of health of the terminally ill Moth Wynn into the public domain. No reports of his death, though it's his missus who writes the books and made them wealthy again after they went bankrupt. Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs play them on screen

World War Three

If WW3 kicks off we might need a dead pool in which you nominate countries - as a rule when they cease to exist the obit chances are strong
