  1. Cricketing legend Les Jackson has died.

That was mentioned in this thread on Wednesday, a full FOUR DAYS ago, you blithering idiot.

can I ask the moderators if its ok for Octopus to make t his kind of personal insult to a fellow forum member just because I made a mistake?Should he not get some kind of formal warning?

I think insulting fellow forum members is generally frowned upon, Iain. However in your case I should think that an exception has been made. Blithering idiot doesn't do you justice though, I prefer blundering moron.

I'm sure other Deathlisters could come up with some inspired two word descriptions of you, without too much prompting.

you are making the mistake of confusing me with someone called iain.Don't you realise that iain is 'dead'.

in any case I now consider this pointless discussion closed

  3. Never heard of this guy, would have put him on the "not exactly famous" thread if it was still around, but thought the nature of his death had a certain quirkiness about it:

James Richards, renowned US cat expert and TV personality, dies after crashing his motorcycle trying to avoid a cat.

    :) God love him!

  4. The 6 to have died of the 1970 squad that PLAYED are Bobby Moore, Peter Osgood, Jeff Astle, Keith Newton, Brian Labone & now Alan Ball.

Emlyn Hughes, who didn't play in the tournament, is the 7th deceased player.

That's almost a third of the squad gone in just 37 years. :)

Compare that to other England World Cup Squads - 2 dead of 22 for 1966, 3 of 22 for 1962, and 5 of 22 for 1958, you start to see how unusual the high attrittion rate from the 1970 squad is.

as opposed to the Scotland world cup squads which were generally dead on their feet as soon as they got on the pitch...

  5. A quick check on previous years lists reveals that old Boris was a regular favourite up until the year 2000 ,consistently in the top 3 or 4 ,until jhe was dropped never to be seen again. In fact his death means that virtually all the names from the lists up until the year 2000 have now passed on!

I notice that Mikhail Gorbachev is exactly the same age as Yeltsin, and had a serious operation recently on a major artery.Maybe it would be fitting if they both went together...
