Dutch Teletekst is also in Chocolate letter mode. I saw the first ever performance in the Netherlands. She was doing a play back version for a tv show. It was recorded at a small pedestrian bridge in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden. That bridge. Locally this place became imfamous for a senseless killing of a man on his stag night. The Dutch inhere will know him. His name was Meindert Tjoelker. He was buried on his wedding day. I happened to stumble upon a filmcrew taping this performance for a Dutch show called Ter land, Ter zee en in de Lucht. A little known singer back then was singing "I wanna dance with somebody".... Echos of Amy Winehouse.....

So after Titanic another thread that can be locked. Or can there be another one who went below the radar?

Never has an age to die been more fitting than this one.

A lot of you might not know who he is and what music he made. Including me for a time. But his music had something in common with the godfather of soul himself, James Brown: His music was sampled to death. If you don't recognize anything in these tracks, you might as well be tone-deaf. I'm sure there are a lot of samples you recognize from Troglodyte. Also, It's just begun was also a massive source of samples. Most notable tracks that used his music were: Beat dis - Bomb the bass Pump Up the Volume - M|A|R|R|S Weekend - The Todd Terry Project Big hits that had a funk foundation from the Jimmy Castor Bunch. But you'll really get a sense of his influence when you see the full list of tracks that used his music. Here are four pages of tracks!

Bit of a late mention. Bob Hop's widow Dolores died at 102. Mind you, Bob also passed the century mark before he died.

A major politician of the past, although maybe considered a soft target, is 95-year old Yitzak Shamir, seventh prime minister of Israel. He's in advanced stages of Altzheimer and no longer recognizes any of his visitors.

This is a big one... Former Dutch goalie Jan van Beveren died at age 63. He wore the jerseys of Sparta Rotterdam and PSV Eindhoven and was capped 32 times. He won the 1978 UEFA cup with PSV and was a three time champion with the same club. He died in the USA where he lived after ending his playing career. This would have the same impact in England if Peter Shilton or Pat Jennings would have died. Wikipedia. Edit: Late addition to this message is a NYT obit. A surely deserved spot on this forum.

I think you are missing the point of this thread somewhat. Indeed. To get back on track: last week I learned that Willem Duys1, a fossil of Dutch public TV, is still alive, if only barely. He was shown on a tribute programme and looked as if he suffered several strokes. He was unable to speak. If he lives, he's a safe bet for 2012 (at least for PNDP). 1Yes, it's a horrible bot-translated article. I'll fix it when I feel like it. regards, Hein From the same vein, though not as old as Duys, Mieke Telkamp. Said farewell to her career in March this year. Reaper on the horizon?? -
