There's a few more easy KOs for me next round than this. But that'll be irrelevant after the first day or two, and songs I like are still going to dominate the years. -

Edelstein is a DDP pick. So one to watch for a QO (read - one to watch for if Yahoo UK picks up any Israeli press).

I had him because I thought still picking Superstar in things was the most hilarious looking shitpost. Somewhat similar to how picking Napoleon XIV here and there just looked funny. Rule of funny wins big this year.

May was a heavyweight month for deaths in general, but less so for the HPDP with only four hits. Tina Turner, Doyle Brunson, and Superstar Billy Graham were previous HPDP picks, but not when it mattered. Nonetheless one of the current HPDP demises brings an absolute explosion of points. John "요한" Sulu predicted golfer Don January would die in January. Wonder why. Despite this, he placed him rather lowly on his team, and scores 28 points (20 base + 8 bonus). Defending champ Banana suffered two blows early this year, when two of his hits were deemed FFBI and saw points deducted. Another Pyrrhic victory is notched through basketball player and coach Denny Crum, who was unique but also subject to penalty by being a basketball player. The end result is a loss of 8 points (40 base - 48 bonus). Nonce Rolf Harris was an anticipated death hereabouts for many reasons. Not just on general principle, but given the way he seeped into so many nooks of British entertainment over his career there were bound to be some bonuses in store. He did Squares, did panto, and Morris danced. Consequentially the end result is a pointsapalooza not unlike Vanessa Marquez or Barbara Windsor in years past, only this time many teams get to bask in the riches: An Fear Beag, John Key LizLemon, maryportfuncity, MariNisia, Thatcher all gain 50 base + 180 bonus = a staggering 230 points. Charles De Gaulle, Lord Fellatio Nelson, markb4, msc, Pedro67, Perhaps, Sean, ThereWillBeDeaths7, and YoungWillz 45 + 162 = 207. Banana, CaptainChorizo, Great Uncle Bulgaria, and theoldlady 40 + 144 = 184. DeathByArsenic, Funeralopolis, gcreptile, Hell, RadGuy, TheDumbReaper, Toast, wannamaker, Young One 35 + 126 = 161. chilean way, DeathBecomesThem, and The Old Crem 30 + 108 = 138. diego and drol 20 + 72 = 92. and CalebH, Murdoc and The Unknown Man feeling a little shorted by only 25 sub points. *faints* Finally, the only hit without any bonuses this update is Calvinist theologian Tim Keller. As he reunites with his boss, Perhaps is elevated by 40 points and BuffaloPhil 30. It's a new scoreboard, and the Rolf brigade is in the driver's seat. Thanks to Rolf (not often you'll hear that phrase), the top 27 teams are all above 200 points with more than half a year to go. Yet the most decisive name of the update was in fact Tim Keller, who Perhaps utilized to leapfrog to the very top. 1. Perhaps 357.95 2. CaptainChorizo 331 3. msc 318.77 4. Banana 316 5. gcreptile 306.95 6. ThereWillBeDeaths7 282.82 7. LizLemon 282.7 8. An Fear Beag 280.95 =9. MariNisia 280 =9. maryportfuncity 280 =9. Thatcher 280 12. Sean 277.82 13. YoungWillz 273 14. Knackered and bloody glad Monday's a holiday here to say the least Took most of the Saturday finishing up this batch and 3-4 hours of that for Tina alone! Jim Brown was one of the weirdest rollercoaster writing processes tbh. Went in going "NFL obit FFS" to "ah, civil rights and film star so there's interesting stuff for me to grab on to" to "history of assault arrests so I have to carefully consider my words FFS"!

Working on May update soon. Looking like the hits were Don January, Denny Crum, Rolf Harris, and Tim Keller.

Taking down Engelbert was a rather easier decision. -

Pretty historical death from a US pop history POV too. The last guaranteed QO name to have charted in the 1940s (there are some obscure survivors still about, but if Louise Tobin couldn't QO...), along with, as you said, one of the dwindling early 1950s hitmakers. Then there were three. Leroy Van Dyke is still performing (if sparsely) and seems in decent shape so should be the odds-on favorite to be the last standing, given Ray Anthony is 101 and Tony Bennett is ailing.
