I can get started this weekend now that you mention it.

A little surprised we're halfway through the week and I only have two obits on the "to do". With caveats - I think ISIS will confirm their guy's death, and soonish, just a matter of exactly when. Hellstrom's continued lack of obit is disappointing.

First picked by Reptile's classical theme in 2019. Unpicked since. -
Update ahead. Mustafa Kayirici, I stick to my word and not award the Crimes Against Humanity points. Rationale in the previous post. But he's no points total to scoff at either, with 45 points for Book and 35 for Salmon Mousse. Norma Waterson and Monica Vitti were both only picked as subs. Waterson a DDT perennial, Vitti, picked by Perhaps, was one of a few this year (along with Van Dyke and Lansbury) who surprised me in not being in my HPDP database before! Both teams get 25 points. Lata Mangeshkar is the first main team hit for John Key but unluckily for him was placed dead last. 5 base points and 2 extra gives him 7 following her swan song. Lastly Ronnie Hellstrom, who had an awesome name, is waiting on a DDP-friendly QO but fortunately for us at the HPDP the German press serves as an express lane of sorts. Thus msc scores 30 base points plus 12 more for 42 total. And with that is the latest scoreboard, with Kayirici the most pivotal of the update allowing Book to extend his lead and Salmon Mousse to sneak past Reptile into second. 1. Book 290 2. Salmon Mousse 176 3. gcreptile 172.81 4. msc 160 5. Banana 124.81 6. CaptainChorizo 117 7. Pedro67 113 8. maryportfuncity 112 9. Kenny 99 10. DevonDeathTrip 95 11. Annami 94 12. markb4 80.99 13. drol 75 14. Perhaps 65 15. Torva Messor 64 16. MariNisia 58 17. theoldlady 50.82 18. An Fear Beag 45.81 19. Great Uncle Bulgaria 45 20. Toast 41 21. John Key 32.99 =22. Hell 0.99 =22. The Old Crem 0.99 =24. Everyone else 0

Should have an update later today. I think Waterson, Kayirici, Vitti, and Mangeshkar are the only hits since the last update? TBH I pondered both ways for Kayirici CoH points and I'm likely going against - not because of his life but because of his marginal notability. I don't feel quite right making someone borderline as a pick to begin with a points bonanza, even if their exit makes the world a better place. Contrast to Durst who is properly widely known and Bishop whose crime has a Wiki page and forum users recall being used as a cautionary tale as they were growing up. ETA I see Ronnie Hellstrom just died too who is a unique for msc but currently awaits an obit.

It was a tricky find tbf, I think a lot of Cup players remembered when Willz almost won the entire Cup due to him and double checked his health ahead of this season

Glad you've been enjoying my efforts! It's been a lot of interesting lives to write about thus far, a fun experience so far if also busy busy. Could be an interesting concept, I will keep the door open and be sure to remind me whenever a major Aussie death arises. I do find it fun to dig in to lives that were unfamiliar to me before, but obits def have an extra depth when written by someone already familiar with them.

Unfortunately, the subs bench is a distinct region from the typical scoring system and so sub hits are not affected by any bonuses.

I did send an email response on the 21st. Possible the response went to spam?: "This tweet mentions the death of an 105-year-old prisoner: https://twitter.com/francescrook/status/1362058682939416576 Although it doesn't explicitly mention Clarke by name, he was the only UK prisoner to be that old and so the committee put two-and-two together and figured it had to be him. A shame he didn't get any obit coverage as points for the scumbag certainly would have been very welcome!"

As car troubles have left me home today, have used this extra bit of spare time to give the old 2021 scoreboard the gold/silver/bronze fashionings and finally put up the first Theme Team League scoreboard. No 404s linked to on the main page now, and I'm certainly glad Reptile decided to prefix all the theme team names! Also my poor guinea pigs got startled just now because I laugh-coughed after seeing the new BoJo pic...

Fun fact - I was so "can't be bothered" when making the profiles for the Charles Taylors that I mistakenly put one as born in "Manitoba, USA"!
-
Think that's the third time I saw a death today that spawned "damn it there goes my Cup joker" posts!
-
As an addendum, I don't think that latest thread recipient is deserving of one at all and in usual circumstances I'd merge it, but if comparing its existence to school shootings is how you're going to go about it, then frankly it fucking stays.

Proper coverage of Ray Anthony's centennial here, including a picture of him at the celebrations. Still sharp-minded albeit poor of hearing:
-
He is now on mod preview - short of a miraculous gain of diplomatic tact, he'll be much quieter now...
-
Agreed - one moment

Got to say I love the extra flair you've given your posts and stats - I've left it in good hands!

^ Last picked on DDP in 2018. Just so those helping scout LotM names know that I know!

I predict the grim reaper is going to confound sceptics and be its most powerful yet like a super strong enema in 2024 moreso than recent years equalling or even beating 2020

The 4 days inbetween learning of Thich Nhat Hanh's death, and those of Lord Fairn and the Australian rapist, were practically a vacation for me by DDP-in-January standards! -
The Ginsburg brouhaha, though completely avoidable, at least had the "with hindsight" tone of it all. And the weird godlike status many Dems accorded her. They'd never forgive Breyer if he didn't retire with the hindsight of her death and its aftermath.

It's as if names who are basically "they have cancer and they'll get a QO" can make the D40 or even the CSDL.
-
Don't do that.
