Yeah, my mother had a scan which showed her tumour had shrunk to a fifth of its size. It came right back and she died two weeks later.

did you just attempt some mental gymnastics to distinguish something called a 'death announcement' and something called an 'obiturary'? LMAO
Well let's see who the DL mental wunderkinds are who buy that argument being made whilst dancing on the head of a pin.In the strange lands I come from an obituary is -- wait for it -- an announcement of one's death. Without looking up webster.com...I'm guessing that is pert near the exact definition. Nathaniel would be proud. And at the same time disappointed.
SCIt is a distinction between the paid announcements column in a newspaper and a biographical article published after the person's death in the section headed 'Obituaries'.

Right, I have heard the name but wouldn't be able to say who she was. On hearing that she was Education Secretary, I would immediately be satisfied with her level of fame.

While I can kind of see why she thought that, if I saw a person like that, I would do research on the person before deciding if they were well known or not. Jowell definitely seemed notable in the UK at least (and she even got some major American obituaries)...
The woman is beyond ignorant. If she had done the most basic research (Wikipedia) she would have seen at once that TJ's notability long pre-dated her illness. I have no problem with her being unfamiliar with TJ, but I do with her arrogant xenophobic attitude.

That's just plain ignorance. She was a very prominent politician here, a Cabinet Minister, whether they'd heard of her or not.
If I haven't heard of her US equivalent, I'd regard that as a gap in my knowledge.

What Roey said.
Also, isn't there a thread for people to post their version of next year's Deathlist?
This thread is supposed to be for new suggestions and ideas. Not lists of people who have already been mentioned thousands of times.

1 hour ago, YoungWillz said:Well, it's certainly an obituary. I'm inclined to allow it as it's from Legacy.com...specialist website? Gawd, why do you make things difficult?
I'd see that more as a death announcement.
I've noticed that local papers, etc, have begun to refer to death notices in the personal columns as "obituaries".

Seriously, a complete Grade A cunt who married a fat, ugly, odious RICH and POWERFUL man no more than three years after starting her 'fashion' label..........
By sheer hard work, her business partner and her alone built up the brand getting the rich and famous of Hollywood to wear the ranges on the red carpet etc etc etcfucking cetera. Naturally.
Well I hope his cum didn't taste too salty my dear.
' She later says: “I had what I thought was a very happy marriage. I loved my life.” '

Yes, here is the place for general discussion.
But if you want to start a competition based around 27 Club you might want to make a separate thread for it in Dead Pools.

Even better, there's an estate agent in Reading called Vanderpump & Wellbelove
Their signs were eagerly looked out for on childhood car journeys. Sadly after so many years they seem to be dropping the "Wellbelove".
