    Renowned Mountaineers, Feeling Peaky?

Another brutal weekend on the 'world's deadliest mountain', K2. 1 in 4 who have summitted haven't made it back down, but the first two that did, Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli, both appear to be alive in their 90s and 80s respectively.

    Fat And Fearless

Cheer up MPFC, it's not over until the fat... ...hmmm, sounds like it may be over MFPC. Except that those who lose vast tonnages have a tendency to regain the lost weight. The real challenge is for our man Manuel to find a role in life that doesn't involve him: i - Being very fat ii - Doing something in response to being very fat. Manny's lost nearly 30 stones (420lbs for American viewers, 185kg for the rest of you) and got himself a new girlfriend.

    Clive Dunn

Does anyone not have Dunny on google alert? I mean, imagine the kudos of being the first to report the Death of All Deaths (assuming he's not immortal, of course) - it'd be like being Neil Armstrong or Tenzing Norgay Edmund Hillary. Then there's the Russian roulette of actually being online when the news comes through, or having your phone close to hand. Then you might get a huge dose of nerves affecting your typing fingers as you picture the horror of Guest Arsehole beating you to the punch. And after all that, it might just be a Fidelesque hoax. Really, it's just not worth it.

    Ideas And Possibilities For 2009

He battled on bravely for a month, but no-one escapes the deadly finger of Devon Death Trip.

    Animal Antics

Snooker-'playing' dog Blue will sadly never realise his ambition of a match against Terrier Griffiths as he's been run over by his owner.

    Art For Death's Sake

Lord, at grevious risk of igniting the hoary old What is Art chestnut, may I take it that if you can't "tell what it is yet" then it doesn't meet with your approval? I know what it is. Its a picture ( it doesnt deserve to be called a painting) of somebodys vomit. If Tracy Emin could make a Bedroom scene look like an old slags morning after (Her life expressed in Art, allegedly....) and call that Art, why is it beyond the realms of possibility that Cy twatface wasnt inspired to paint his "picture" after a bout of food poisoning and a visit to the bog to "talk to Burton Huey?" Yours Lord Philistine Nelson I'm not calling you a philistine, but I fail to see the connection between Emin's 'bed' (which I don't admire) and Twombly's paintings (which I do), other than that they're both non-figurative. I won't ask what you think of Jackson Pollock's art, because I can already guess. And I expect it'll involve more bodily-function metaphors, random Capital letters and an 'angry' emoticon.

    The Dead Of 2008

They sure do, especially if they're called Chadwick. This time it's theologian (that's near enough to a cleric for me) the Very Rev Prof Henry Chadwick. Before long it'll be the Rev Owen Chadwick - the team that have him as a DDP unique pick must be gutted that's it's his younger brother who's been called to account.

    Deathlist 2011

O'Hara is an outside bet at the moment. She's still quite feisty & active, despite recent illness. As for Delannoy, no, not really. I'm quite happy with who I DO have, right now, thanks for asking. Maybe you should have listened to that wise Unknown Man, as Monsieur Delannoy est mort. Does this news delannoy you?

    Tony Martin

Is this the place to discuss the ex-San Diego Chargers receiver Tony Martin, the German cyclist Tony Martin, the English darts player Tony Martin, the Kiwi comedian Tony Martin or the Canadian politician Tony Martin? I don't think any of them are likely to die in 2009.

    Joan Rivers, Please Lord

Joan's been kicked off a TV show for calling Russell Crowe a f*&%ing sh£t live on air. Or was it a f%$*ing sh#t? Either way, she's f$*^ing right.

    Art For Death's Sake

I'm sorry if this is boring to most DLers, but I'd like to point out that Twombly has an exhibition at Tate Modern and that I consider him one of the premier C20th artists. Of course, he won't get Rolf-like column inches and he may not die for years, but the Deathlist is a broad church, I'd hope. (Hmmm, I'd had a few drinks when I wrote that. I do rate his work, but maybe 'one of the premier C20th artists' is a bit OTT)

    The Dead Of 2008

That's sad, in a there-goes-another-tradition way. Cyd was was one of the greatest hoofers of all time, next to Tony Adams.

Nick Du Toit / Simon Mann / Mark Thatcher

Our favourite trial is off and running, and they're asking for a mere 30 years for Simes. He could be out and about mercenerising with his bus pass before you know it.
  18. Oi, come back!! We've merely dipped a toe in the ocean of triviality. Two of the more unlikely bedfellows in the Hushabye Mountain cover version stakes are mumsy actress Wendy Craig and Tindersticks pub singer Stuart Staples. The idea of the latter I find slightly disturbing.
