My thoughts exactly. It has an Elizabeth II feel to it, and it almost has a formula now. Speculation/rumours of ill health start surfacing --> intensify over a number of days --> Palace remains quiet and don't deny or clarify anything --> Palace puts the monarch on some kind of duty and releases a positive but generic and vague soundbite to keep speculation at bay

British neurologist Jenny Vaughan OBE (wiki) dead from cancer at 55. Guardian obit. One of these familiar faces who was on the TV a lot during the pandemic. She campaigned for better PPE.
-
We knew she was still alive because Alwyn's obituary from December 2020 noted that she survived him.
-
Walter Nixon dead at 101. BBC obit. Bill Gladden dead at 100. BBC obit. Full Beeb obits for WWII vets becoming ever more common. There hasn't been an estimate on numbers released since 2019, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was now less than 50,000 across the whole of the Commonwealth.

mango molester has moved on from facepalms to angry reacts. I'm not sure why. I'm just echoing what I've been told, and weighing in with my evaluation.

That will get cancelled nearer the time.

The motto is "keep calm and carry on", not "be negative and panic". All you will hear is the "good news", but when that "good news" is about 10% of the actual story and the bad news is the 90% then you're not getting a clear picture of what's unfolding because that 90% is being withheld from public knowledge. I've been on this forum since 2008 – and I'm curious to know if other members agree with me on this – when someone is undergoing cancer treatment the body can either reject or respond well to "treatment" (note treatment, not cure). Now, in my 16+ years on here there have been 1000s of notable names who have perished from cancer. In the instances when their illness was public knowledge prior to their demise it was always standard to put out statements saying "they're responding well to treatment" or "doing well". When your prognosis is grim you have to remain upbeat and look at the positives. Patrick Swayze died from pancreatic cancer in 2009. When he was undergoing treatment they said he was doing somersaults at home, working out and "doing great" etc etc. The chemo was wiping out cancer cells BUT it was still advanced stage cancer at the end of the day, and we all knew it was just a matter of when, not if. The rumours are Charles's cancer has spread and the soundbites are not good. Since I posted that initial bit of intel last week, it seems that everyone in the media and the political world now knows of this. I've brought it up in conversation and each time I've been met with "yeah I already know". It's an open secret now, so I'm not surprised that TMZ, the Daily Beast, and the New York Post are running with it. The British Press have a special unwritten code of ethics when it comes to the Royals. You won't hear anything from them other than the "official" and controlled information being funnelled from the Palace. Anyway, the latest I'm hearing is "gone by Christmas". Others have told me 2 years max. I'd suggest you go out and get your stamps and coins now mango boy.

You're right. New coins are not widely in circulation, notes haven't been released at all. They're due to be launched at the start of June.

At his age he really wasn't going to set any length of reign records, but at least his reign was longer than that of Edward VIII. ... also longer than Liz and the lettuce I guess...

You care so little of this forum that you actually spent a good few minutes typing all that out (even though none of us will read beyond the first 2 lines cos it's boring AF). I've said it before and I'll say it again – if you don't like it here then bugger off somewhere else.

My intel is rarely wrong. Not the biggest fan of Charles but certainly don't wish him ill or dead... though I can't wait for the epic apology I'm going to get from mango boy for him being a twat.

There are exactly 10 murderers from the original Columbo still alive: Lee Grant (born 1925) Dick Van Dyke (born 1925) Vera Miles (born 1929) Clive Revill (born 1930) William Shatner (born 1931) Joyce Van Patten (born 1934) Héctor Elizondo (born 1936) George Hamilton (born 1939) Trish Van Devere (born 1941) Susan Clark (born 1943)

Mai Raud-Pähn (wiki) dead at 103.

Times obit for Pinder.

2020 rape conviction overturned. Appeals court ruled that prejudiced judge made decision based on Weinstein's historic behaviour rather than the actual charge itself, which means a retrial will now take place. Weinstein, 72, will remain behind bars as a result of a separate conviction of rape.

Completely forgot they appeared on The Simpsons in 1999. Not 100% of who the four are below but I'm going to guess Hayward, Lodge, Edge and Thomas.

Can't find anything on Ancestry owing to the fact that we don't have a rough idea of birth and death years but here's some new info. He was confirmed alive as late as November 1984 and possibly 1988 when he was touring and performing as a member of The Ink Spots. An earlier article from 1981 noted that he had taken hiatus from the group due to ill health, but it seems he recovered. I reckon he died between the late 80s and mid 90s.

BBC and ITV obits for Miss Jason. Suspected this might be the case as he was widely loved. Still, wasn't really my cuppa. If I was in a pub and he was on a stage I'd politely watch and sing along but his act was showtunes, which is not really my thing. I much prefer the drag acts that do dark comedy or 70s/80s/90s jukebox.

I like this photo. Shirley Maclaine with younger brother Warren Beatty in 1942. Looking online, a lot of people seem to be unaware and shocked to find out that they're siblings. They had quite a rocky relationship, and didn't Maclaine infamously say something really stupid (and a bit creepy) saying that the worst thing about being Warren Beatty's sister was that she couldn't sleep with him? I don't know why I have that stuck in my head. Maybe someone else can clarify what it was she actually said.

I think you're being kind for the sake of being kind, which is quite humble but not entirely truthful. She looks pretty bad in those pics. Needs help walking, and the face is the work of decades of heavy drinking and smoking, not just "the lack of botox".

I would argue that in the case of the Moody Blues, the original lineup doesn't really matter as much as it's not its iconic lineup (unlike say The Allman Brothers Band). Denny Laine (guitar) and Clint Warwick (bass) were only there for little over 2 years (May 1964 – July 1966). Justin Hayward and John Lodge replaced them that year and remained with the group until it dissolved in 2018. They're both still alive.

Doesn’t look too good IMO.

Have you had a look through Ancestry? If not I can check later.

You sure? This newspaper clipping from 1979 refers to that performer as John "Biggie" McFadden, not George. Edit: And this 1949 clipping refers to him as George "Biggie" McFadden. All rather confusing. Can't find any trace of him after 1979 though, sorry.
