Third sitting Labour peer to die since the start of the year. 9th former MP to die since the start of the year. This looks like it's going to be a brutal year for former MPs and peers.

You're not wrong on that.

What an amateur. The Chinese People's Liberation Army has officers way older than that. I hope they don't waste space in the ground by burying her.

Still how you remember them tasting back in 19oatcake?

Proud flagshagger here. Better that than a pinko

That's a really difficult question to answer, mainly because the world was so different back in the 1940s and 1950s when he was in politics. There's actually statements attributed to Churchill where he talks of a united political Europe etc. but he doesn't go into enough detail for it to be compared to the modern day institutions of the EU.

Dan Wootton gets apology and undisclosed damages sum from the Mirror. Seems he's going after all of them then. Liam Halligan leaves GBNEWS after becoming disillusioned (they axed his economics programme, "On the Money", which I was quite upset about but I kind of understand why... nobody watches news programmes solely focussed on economics... though perhaps they ought to).

Clutching at straws now. The Maastricht Treaty created the EU, without it the EU wouldn't have come into being. If she was against the signing of the creation of it, she was against it. I don't understand why that's difficult to understand.

Her letter to Sir Bill Cash here would suggest otherwise... I've spoken to several of her close friends subsequent to her death and they all say she would have wanted to leave had she still been around (and had she still had her marbles!).

Sorry but BonScott is actually correct on this one. The EEC and the EU are completely different kettles of fish. Thatcher was in favour of the former. She came out heavily against further integration and political union in her latter years. It's all chronicled online. Also worth remembering that the Europhiles of those days were... the Labour Party! Labour didn't change their stance on their relationship with the EU until the 1990s. Around the same time the SNP did. Sinn Fein were later I think.

Aye, updated already

Betty Brodel gets a Hollywood Reporter obit.

I quit some years ago now. I smoked since I was 14, so the damage was somewhat, but I managed to reverse everything thankfully. Coughing up tar for months after wasn't fun. That normally starts from week 2 until about week 8. But my goodness, what a difference it makes to your breathing, your sleep, your mental wellbeing. Quitting smoking is defo worth it. Do I crave a cigarette from time to time? Sure. What do you do instead? Distract. Have a wank, have a mint, have a wine gum, go for a run, do a chore around the house, pick up the phone and shout at some imbecile. Anything. Quitting smoking is a lifelong task, not a short term event. You have to WANT to quit though. Will power alone is really hard to enforce over long periods of time. Smelling like an ashtray, having shit respiratory health, poor dental hygiene and being unable to get it up at times should be enough for anyone to want to kick it completely IMO.

Can you please tell us who he is?

There are several article results for Heidy Hunt on Newspapers.com. One here from May 1966 saying that she is Canadian and was making her debut. Given that her debut was this late, and looking at photos of her from the 1960s, I'm inclined to say she was born around the mid-1940s, meaning that in all likeliness she is probably still alive if we go off of life expectancy alone.

4300 people currently living in the UK with that surname (according to some random site off Google anyway...). So not rare, but not common.

Happened to my ex (who is also 32) just before Christmas. Thankfully he pulled through after a few days and is totally fine now. In his case though it wasn't an undiagnosed heart condition. They're still not sure what caused it.

Also smoked 30 a day (used to always light up during his interviews on GBNews, which I thought was weird in this day and age). Amusing article he wrote on giving up in November 2021. I'm not convinced he's stuck to it. 64 in April, and looking like shit. Agree he'll probably die before 70.

Not surprised it came last. Shite song. Not at all helped by the fact that they're not exactly easy on the eyes. That is a schnozz and a half.

Tony Aitken is the old dude in the latest Tesco advert, isn't he? Who's the old woman? (who is now my avatar due to lack of imagination on my part)

Pretty certain this guy just thinks he's some kind of edgelord but I think there's a serious point to be made about this. Donald Trump is now the only Republican candidate. All of the others have dropped out. Jason Palmer, Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson are still in the running for the Democratic nomination. Why? Literally makes no sense given that Biden is scooping up all the Dem delegates. I suspect they're holding out for as long as they can in the hope that they could get lucky.

I do wonder if her death made it into the Winter edition of Equity magazine that still hasn't been uploaded onto this page. Of the 1000s of people that visit this forum every year, including those who just lurk and don't post, I find it impossible to believe that there isn't a single one who doesn't have an Equity subscription. If anyone who does is reading this, can you please send me a picture of the In Memoriam section from their latest winter edition via private message? Merci!
