Just an FYI – Nick Hitchon has now secured obits from The Telegraph, The Times and The Guardian.
-
Telegraph death notice for Fraser Richards, 2nd Baron Milverton, aged 93. Conservative member of the House of Lords from 1978 to 1999. The new Lord Milverton is his younger brother, who is 87.
-
Times death notice for David Lawrence, 5th Baron Lawrence (wiki), aged 85. Crossbench member of the House of Lords (1968–1999). No heir, and thus the peerage is now extinct.

Wheeeesht Quim.

Disagree with the mod decision to move this – the Jimmy Carter thread is stale AF and majority of users don't read extra-curricular. Any other entries for this though?

Thanks for this drol. That’s what I expected. However, there was this “news” piece from a few days ago mentioning a 100th birthday. Is Roma Daily News unreliable? Never heard of them before today.

Genuine question – do you work for THR? Always seem to spot their obits almost immediately. You’re either a contributor or you’re sat on your computer hitting the refresh button all day. -
Any relation to René Weller?

A-t-elle vraiment 101 ans ? Comment faire confiance aux Français quand ils échangent simplement leur place avec leurs filles et leurs fils, comme Madame Calment ?

On Jeremy Kyle Live on TalkTV right now. Looks and sounds great. Lots of energy, good complexion. Would be shocked if he didn't see 2024. "The Committee" will get away with this one but they shouldn't exclude him again next year.

Muhammad Hussain Najafi (wiki) dead on Twitter:

"Skin cancer" being the key missing phrase from your sensationalist post, and "discovered at a very early stage" being the key detail. Vast majority survive skin cancer. No need to do The Sun's bidding and join in the sensationalism they employ for clicks.

Must come from some kind of insurance records. Any idea why they stopped updating the SSDI? I thought that decision was bizarre.
-
Bob Dawson (wiki), Aussie rules footballer for St. Kilda back in 1941(!), dead at 102. He was probably the oldest living Aussie rules player. No idea who that title goes to now. Could be Keith McNaughton (wiki, b. 1921) but likely he's already deceased.

Same. I feel the same way bout Shakespeare though.
-
Should we start a “The Scots” thread? Seeing as we have one for “The Welsh”? The St Andrews Day/Burns Night one rightly got thrown into extra curricular because it was just full of pish.

Agreed. Just like Calment.

1) Cornelius Cole 1822–1924 (102 years, 47 days) 2) Strom Thurmond 1902–2003 (100 years, 203 days) 3) James L. Buckley 1923–2023 (100 years, 162 days)

James L. Buckley (wiki), New York Senator (1971–1977) and federal judge, dead at 100. A DDP pick for 2 teams. The oldest living former U.S. Senator is now Daniel J. Evans, who turns 98 in October. The oldest living former U.S. federal judge is now William H. Webster, who is 99. Daniel J. Evans is now the last living former member of the U.S. Senate to have served in WWII.

Local obit published today for Allan Crossley (wiki). Interesting fella. EDIT: Of note to dead poolers – Crossley is only the 2nd titleholder of Britain's Strongest Man (which started in 1979) to die. The first was Marc Iliffe (wiki), who committed suicide in 2003, aged 30. His death was widely reported because of the circumstances and the fact that he was the titleholder in 2002. Crossley had a long career, and yet no QO. Worth considering for any future picks.

Updated MFSB following the death of Bobby Eli. Just 5 of the 19 left now.

Nah, sadly not. Just a hunch. Though I know Diane Abbott ain’t too well. Rumoured Parkinson’s. Stepping down next election even though she hasn’t announced yet.
