  1. Came across a report by the BBC on the last war-time MP, Ernest Millington (93).

He is the last remaining MP elected prior to the 1945 election (post-war), of which there are four remaining former MPs.... Millington, Michael Foot (95), John Freeman MBE (94) and Francis Noel-Baker (89).

Additionally, there are four remaining former MPs from the 1950 election: Freeman, Foot, Reader Harris (95) and Robert Carr (92).

All possibilites for 2010 but I doubt all of them will make it until next year... Foot should do though...

  2. Samantha Orobator, up the duff and in the sh*t in Laos. Apparently pupped in the penitentiary, suggesting their interrogation techniques put Gene Hunt to shame. Likely to get mucho publicity for a short while at least. I mean, if they spared her till she'd sprogged and saw her off after that, it'd be very timely as a CPDP pick.
    Who?

  3. When Jack Jones died I heard a news report suggesting there were half a dozen surviving members of the British contingent - originally numbering 2000 - of the International Brigade.

There's a memorial site and a Wiki page but neither sports a definitive list of those still with us. Anyone know where such a list does exist?

As far as I know, there is no such list. However, it was the 1930s, as apposed to the 1910s when WWI took place. However there were much less of them and they were all older at the time - if you give it another five years I'd say the list on wiki will be just about as reliable as it can be... but at the moment new names keep springing up in the media all the time... a new Fascist Forces members was added to the list on wiki last week so there are clearly much more out there than originally thought. I think it's safe to say there must be 50+.....

  4. Going to work this morning I heard the news that Jack Jones had died... coming home I heard breaking news on the BBC that Jack Cardiff had died....

    Ah well it's inevitable:

    Hit the road Jack. :banghead:

    Sorry........

  5. **It's A Wonderful Life (1946)... 9 surviving cast members - Virginia Patton (born 19??)

1923, I believe, and still alive.

    Thanks, I'll add that

I think this should be it's own thread. However I do have one more... Carla Laemmle (born 1909) is believed to be the only surviving Dracula (1931) cast member. There are a few entries that don't have birth or death dates so I'm not too sure on those.

Checked Dracula, I think it's safe to presume she is the last surviving cast member as most of the other actors were older in the film and there are only three or so actors (in uncredited roles) that have no birth/death records...

**Freaks (1932)... no surviving cast members

Josephine Joseph, who was the hermaphrodite, could still be alive... but it's unknown for sure.

I did consider Josephine Joseph but I concluded that since she seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth and had a disfigurement... she's most likely dead but I'll put a question mark next to her name...

Maybe a new thread is needed here... any ideas what to title it?

  7. Netherwood Hughes has died at the age of 108.

That means there are only 6 verified WWI veterans left....

2 living in the UK (Henry and Harry),

2 living in the USA (Frank and JohnB)

2 living in Australia (Claude and JohnC)

    ....... it's on <_<

The Guardian have given Ned a mention in the News in Brief section on their site... does that count as a sound obituary for the DDP?

  8. Death announced of Colin Jordan, veteran British neo-nazi. Politically active since 1943. Should get an obit in some of the broadsheets, as he was extremely notorious in the early 1960s.

Very interesting to see the ways in which people are reacting to his death...

Unsurprisingly the twisted neo-Nazis at the vnn forum (who like to spend most of their time bragging about how they beat black people up and making anti-semitic jokes) are reporting it as "Sad News" and are calling him a "brave warrior" blah blah blah

On the other hand Kirklees Unity hope that he rots in hell!
