The Fringes Of Fame/family Of The Famous

Any news on Endersby? I notice her youngest daughter is on facebook if anyone is brave/insensitive enough to ask. Are you able to sniff around and be able to ascertain whether her mother has died? It's been a kind of quest of OoO's....

Just think. In another 5 months you will have to do it all over again. Quite so. It wont be in August next year, believe me... With that and the History section fully updated, I can now turn to my main plan for the DDP - a new look...

    Academy Award Winners

Well, it probably was, as she's dead. A DDP choice for two teams; 20 Celebrities, Sitting On A Wall, If 1 Got Shot Or.... and Short Distance Clara. Another person from Breakfast at Tiffanys gone. I think Mickey Rooney is the only star from that alive. Hepburn, Peppard, Neal, Cat and Ebsen all gone. Bugger, that means Clara now has three hits to my one. She's a friend of mine and we're having our own little competition. It also gives me another reason to dislike Patrcia Neal besides her pro-life, pro-ana stance. Well she aint pro-life now...

Anonymity is part and parcel of the internet. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of DQ's obsequious twitter following were using assumed names, adding to the hypocrisy by agreeing sagely with the hack on this very issue. The original request was polite enough but it was when he started whining about it to his media cronies and acolytes which irritated me. He decided to get on his high horse, but when the evidence of his hypocrisy stacked up against him more than Goering at Nuremburg, he then made a tactical withdrawal. I think RA's got to the root of the issue. It's not about Swells, it's about DQ. He's curious/confused as to why he's on there and has used the old friends/family disgust as a bit of a cover. It's interesting that he gets himself out of the way first in the message, almost to divert me from it. His ego's taken a bruising and he lashed out. Funny to think that he's been involved in British popular culture for the best part of 30 years, only to find himself out of his depth here...

Shall I apply the coup de grĂ¢ce? Underneath my bed is a box. It contains many affects which are a part of my life. One such affect is a copy of the New Musical Express, dated 24th March 1990... In it, there is an article on David Bowie, written in anticpation of his 'Sound and Vision' greatest hits tour that Spring. Entitled A Lad 'N' Fame', it provides an album by album overview and is coupled with another article called '100 Little Gnome Facts'. It was a witty and informative article, which prompted me to explore the career of the Thin White Duke, and very grateful for that I am too. When reviewing his most recent album at that point (the rather ill-concieved Tin Machine project) comes this little gem: Lennon was dead less than ten years at that point. And the writers of this said article? Terry Staunton and David Quantick as the late Eric Morecambe would say... "Get out of that!"

Still, if he's so angry about people writing things about celebrities under fake names, he must have been fucking fume at David Stubbs for all that Mr Agreeable stuff, huh? I'm not all that surprised, they probably have one man and his dog playing it. Even at the beginning of DDP back in 1996 the teams were the likes of Nick J. and Simon R. and of course Big Iain.. Yes he has changed tack hasn't he? Why isn't he condeming Fallsound for using 'real' people? I can't even find the fucking thing. He must have really been digging. And why is he using another deadpool as a tool in his argument against deadpools in general? Try this one for a dead pool David: http://www.stiffs.com/ These lot play for money....

Spade, is this the same David Quantick who is facebook with Scott Michaels who runs the findadeath website? A website far more obsessed with celebrity deaths than DDP an DL are put together. If so then that's further proof of his hypocritical nature. Ooooh, good work. Being as the Findadeath Scott Michaels is the former boyfriend of Graham Norton, and that Quantick was a writer for So Graham Norton.... I think you're right. I'm with Spadey on this one. He's backed himself into a corner. @Rotten Ali, I have considered that option. I don't think coding will be a problem as 2009 is pretty much archived. However, if I were to remove Wells it might be the tip of the iceberg. What if other friends or families of picks start requesting that such and such needs to be removed? Then it would make a mockery of the competition.... Sure. But it's the people left behind of those who were on the fringes of fame that don't quite understand what these sites are about. These things can cause pain. Some Papua New Guinea people never liked having their photo taken because they thought their very soul was being removed. Have any famous people contacted the site while still alive and said take my name off? Should there be a deadline? And this request is more of a back fire - "remove my friend from your site" - turns this person's life into a lesser footnote. Sure it's sad that people get ill and die. 100% of people who are born die. Even famous ones. So I feel this minor request could be undertaken without the flood gates being opened. Remembering that being in the public eye has it's draw backs. Even mix with other even more famous people that are very vocal, indignent and persuasive to the extent that they can have information removed about you after your death. It's not the end of the world to do it once. But really this request should have come via the family estate if they are still upset by it. And that brings us back to "image rights". Like the link on the entry that takes you to the death notice. If it's a problem the family have, then that too best be removed. I'm sure the last thing Wells would want is for his estate to go all corporate and start shouting the odds over image rights and so on. Not very right on, is it? But we're speculating here. I am at this moment writing the latest email and it begins with a summary of what has happened and a staunch defence of the DDP and of deadpooling in general.

He probably thinks you're the main man! I'm a bit concerned with this. I don't want this to spiral into some media thing. It is the silly season after all and I know a wise man once said that all publicity is good publicity, but this might provoke a shit storm... Best practice, I think, is that TMIB quietly ignores all further personal communications. There's little Mr Quantick can do besides whine. A shit storm doesn't bother me much. I don't expect that this will spill over to DL, but if it does, management can handle it, I trust. A few nice rants would certainly increase entertainment value here. What worries me most is that, rather than discussing our successes and failures, we're wasting our time on this rubbish. regards, Hein There's no such thing as bad publicity. By the way I'm intrigued by this "big idea". No one's ever told me about it. Also have been trying to fathom out that Twitter trail. I've been twittering myself for eons now but don't really understand it. It's getting a bit complicated with retweets and stuff like that, couldn't make head nor tail of the link nor who was speaking to who although there seemed to be an entertaining exchange of insults in there. What's Quantick's health like? All that moral indignation can't be very good for one's blood pressure! I am distressed at the allegations he has levelled towards us all and I feel that he owes us an apology. The man thinks that all 400+ DDP competitors are "scum" and therefore perhaps he should be treated with the contempt he deserves. However, maybe has misunderstood and should be given a chance to clarify his views. Does he really think that we all wanted Steven Wells to die?? I wouldn't have minded so much if the condemnation had come from some hopeless Daily Mail resident fascist, that would have been expected. But I'd always quite admired David Quantick's work so it's all the more depressing to read that he has turned in to a reactionary old fart. I am still shocked that it really was him and not an imposter. No man has given more services to the art of hypocrisy this week than David Quantick. This is a lesson to us all; how one moment you can be a leading luminary in contemporary cutting edge wit and within a few years have morphed in to Melanie Phillip's (sic) love child. A lot of the competitors on the DDP wouldn't have heard of Steven Wells. His death might have prompted a few to check some of his stuff out. And I'm quite sure OoO gave him proper dues in his email last June... It seems that we're a step too far Quantick. Next time he's on telly or radio and attempts to be egregious, we'll be reminded of the truth. I was considering BC'ing on my next DDP email, just so he gets a taste of what we're all about, but I won't bother now.
