    UK General Election 2010

Yeah, mine is. Through good fortune (but not entirely undeserved). Not everyone loses in recession time.... Mind you, the years leading up were pretty shitty, I'll give you that!

    UK General Election 2010

That's the Torygraph innit! I mean, what I've highlighted can be very subjectively conveyed. What does 'most competitively taxed' actually mean? I'm surprised they didn't top it off with the old chestnut: "This country's becoming ungovernable..." ...before having a swift malt and then have a snooze.

    The Dead Of 2010

I have a question about this: is it illegal in the UK for an MP to be bribed or ask for a bribe? In the Netherlands it may land an MP in gaol for up to four years. (Article 362 Penal Code) regards, Hein Nah, they just get a peerage!

    Coleman Falls?

I wonder will this tip that loon Frank Bruno over the edge now that his long term partner is out for the count? Interestingly as well, Carpenter was the same age when he died, 84, as Reg Gutteridge, who died last January. John Rawling's alright for a while then...

    UK General Election 2010

I went one better than that and left the country completely! I have no desire to follow a career as a professional liar politician. I worked for the local authority, for a while, and saw just how fucked up local government actually is. I couldn't sleep at night seeing people in poverty and then having to see how mismanaged the system is. The last meeting, I had the misfortune of going to, was a meeting to decide whether they should schedule more meetings. If voting changed anything they'd make it illegal. Whoever wins, in May, the only beneficiaries are the people that are voted in. The popular vote lies with the apathists. The ones who will just not miss Pop Idle to visit the polls. The bottom line is, whoever is elected into Westminster, petrol prices will rise and you will have less money in your pocket. Enjoy your election race! Where do you live?

    UK General Election 2010

I'm afraid there's no one to vote for then. Although I am a dyed in the wool Conservative (both big & little C) I have little time for CameraOn and his cohorts (with the exception of wee Willie Hague). Who ever gets in will have to face up to a really big mess...... Which got me thinking; who in their right mind would want the job. Massively unpopular decisions will have to be taken which will ensure that either they will be forced to U turn or there will be an election which they will lose heavily. Perhaps the Conservatives are playing a brilliant game in which they do just enough to lose and then wait for Brown to fuck it up and ensure Nu Labour never get in again. My fervent wish is that they all just piss off and leave us alone. 3,600 new laws (including over 450 new ones that give powers of forced entry to unelected officials) in the last ten years have not made life any better. Maybe that's where we're heading. Collective responsibility for getting us put of this mess = coalition government. We had it the 10s, 20s, 30s & 40s and it got us through 2 World Wars and 2 Depressions. The law making process would be slowed down and indeed compromised. But perhaps that's what's needed rather than a succession of governments with their pre-set agendas...

    UK General Election 2010

And Scotland could be the key here, I reckon. Back in 1979, it was Labour's resurgence in Scotland which prevented absolute humiliation at the ballot box. It's a no-brainer aint it? Brown is Scottish and he's Prime Minister. They're gonna vote for him up there. When it comes to the crunch they'd rather have a Scot in charge OF THE WHOLE COUNTRY that some Eton ponce with a Scottish name... Labour will retain all their seats in Scotland and nick one or two off the SNP while they're about it. Now there's only 59 seats compared to over 500 in England, but it could still make a difference at the end of the day...

    UK General Election 2010

No Overall control may well be the favourite. I see the Tories are trying to wind the clock back and suggest we're back in the Dark Ages (also known as the nineteen seventies). But of course the Seventies were followed by the Eighties *shudder*... Maybe music and comedy might improve with that lot in, mind... Not that the Seventies were bad in that way either... If it's on May 6th as expected, I shall be out of the country anyway, which will be fascinating...

    Horse Racing

2/6.... So if i had put a fiver on each, I would have staked £30 (ignoring the e/w General Miller) - lost £20 on four races, but win £47.50 (including original stake) - £27.50 up... Pity I didn't put any money on then.... I think you'll find that's £37.50 won, plus £10 stakes returned, less £30 initial stake which leaves you £17.50 up... (still a reasonable return mind!) I wish I'd stick to my instincts. Today, me and my work colleague went to the bookies. He put an each way on Mon Mome (incredibily at 100/1, doesn't anyone know he won the Grand National only last year?). I looked at the list and the name Imperial Commander stared back at me and my initial thought was "hmmm, that's got a Gold Cup-winning ring about it" and the promptly did sweet FA about it. (I had less than a tenner and was more concerned at procuring the vinyl copy of The Teardrop Explodes classic 1981 album "Wilder" from Rockaboom). I could have got that AND Primal Scream's "Sonic Flower Groove" record with plenty to spare had I let gut instinct take over...
