    Ideas And Possibilities For 2009

Appeal court judges are able to make such judgements precisely because they are out of touch with the modern world, which makes sense in an odd sort of way. Gotta love our criminal justice system!

    Ideas And Possibilities For 2009

Noted. He's another bold choice as far as that qualified recognition goes. It would really make the selection process easier if this upcoming news week could provide some difference-making obituaries. I'm reaching my limit as I have an overload of valuable names for next year. A very productive news week would seal the deal but we have time yet. Yes there seems to be a particularly rich crop of 40/50 somethings in health difficulties. It's likely that they're not all going to go in 2009 and some will hang on. But I'm not going to ambulance chase too much on my list. Just a matter of making the right judgement. In Mr Hernadez's case, stage 4 sounds pretty advanced to me, but you don't know how long this process may take. Because it's a 'rare' cancer, doesn't mean its not untreatable...

    Deathlist 2011

John Mortimer was a lawyer who represented the publishers of Oz magazine, who in 1971 were charged with obsenity. He also represented the Sex Pistols in 1977 regarding the flap over their album title Never Mind the Bollocks. By then, he had become known in Britain for the 'Rumpole of the Bailey' TV series which he wrote, which starred Leo McKern as an irascible but likeable barrister. Bit of a champagne socialist and womaniser...

    Deathlist 2011

Six weeks to go and there's been little discussion on what should/would be on the Deathlist 2009. I mean, it's kind of the point of this forum isn't it? You could point to the Ideas and Possibilities thread, but that's now a rolling news module on the sick and dying, not actual debate on who should or shouldn't be on the list. And I suspect there's a few cards placed on chests with the DDP also set for renewal on the same day. I'm going to start the ball rolling on some genuine possibles, bearing in the mind the criteria for DL. Godfrey Rampling (b. 1909) - Father of actress Charlotte and the oldest living Olympic Gold Medalist (1936 4x400m relay) Kim Il Jong (b. 1941) - Suspiciously photographed North Korean dictator. Nancy Reagan (b. 1921) - a better bet than Betty Ford I would say at this time... Patrick Swayze (b. 1955) - chances not great, although he's bearing well. Edwin Morgan (b. 1920) - Scottish Poet Laureate. Has had Prostate Cancer for years Norman Wisdom (b. 1915) - Suffering from Dementia, 94 in February...

You call me sick, and you're denying the man a Christmas present! For his last Noel?

It's up the individual choice, really. I'm not picking Seve either, but that's because I don't think he'll cark it anyway. As for the man at the centre of this little contre temps...maybe, maybe not. The whole purpose of DDP is picking who you think is going to die in a given year, so lets get down to those brass tacks...We've got six weeks to make up our minds!

We've had this debate before of course, over Josie Grove and I recall Godot being similarly troubled by that situation. In the event I didn't pick Grove for pretty much the same reasons and the controversy lead to a change in DDP rules. The 'right to die' debate has been sparked by the suicide of the rugby player and as we all know, once a story or an issue gets going in the media it spreads like a virus. So there would be no avoiding the obits for Mr Martin. The unfortunate Mr Martin's plight is on the verge of hitting the mainstream. As for the before illness/ after illness fame factor, the brutal attack was news back in 1996 and his subsequent dealing with it lead to a book being written and published in Germany. Now that is not really on the level of Paul Newman, but it does approach Randy Pausch territory... Of course there is no guarantee that Mr Martin will do as he intends. I'd imagine the service at Dignitas would cost a fair few roubles and Martin doesn't look in any way able to raise the necessary funds, unless of course a compassionate benefactor might intervene - hands off that chequebook Maryport!

Couldn't you have kept this between ourselves? Seriously though, a decent punt (9 points for age + 3 for suicide).... Assisted suicides? This is scraping the barrel. Common OoO, start acting like a mod and moderate your DDP to rule against this group. This isn't low hanging fruit, it's rotting apples. I can't play a game with this poor chap. His choice is an interesting debate for the forum but surely this shouldn't be the stuff of DDP points. I'm sure the Pausch estate would be relieved to know that you would turn your nose up at the likes of Mr Martin, Godot...

Spammers (Spawn of The Devil) - Please Post Here

I regularly get emails asking if I'd like an extra five inches of cock - seeing as I'm getting precisely zero inches at the moment, an extra five would be ideal - but whenever I reply saying 'yes please, bring it round, here's my address' I never get any response. Disappointing. These emails are definitely a scam. You should ask for more, six at least....

    2009 DDP

But some people turn the illness into a surrogate career. So - for example - Jane Tomlinson went on for ages and gained high profile publicity, and still kept people guessing so well that she survived some deadpool nominations in the years before she died. Why does it matter how a person became famous? They're either famous or not. Should we discriminate against those who became famous for criminal activities, e.g.? It's not a morality play, just a game to predict which celebrities will die. Does Paris Hilton "deserve" to be a celebrity any more than Terry Schiavo? Quite right. Famous people have feelings too...

    Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi

Good. Given some of the victims may have been alive for some time following Pan Am 103's explosion, when they finally decide he's on death's doorstep he should be strapped to a seat and pushed out of a plane from 30,000 feet. That would end the cancer. Unless he didn't do it, in which case he should be released immediately. But if Qaddafi said he's guilty, it must be true. He didn't.. He's a patsy. Funny that his life expectancy has increased following his refused bail though... Him and Manson family "Mom" Susan Atkins are must haves. Forget Jack K. and Ronnie B. for old criminals. Take the new gimmees. Ted K you mean... I'm not so sure Miser. There's quite a few jailbirds who are pleading the 'I'm dying, honestly' schtick: Biggs, Bevel, al-Megrahi, Atkins, Fujimori... Like those African dictators that all very ill apparently, yet still hang to life and, coinidentially, to power too...

    Too Many Moderators ?

Well, as a brand new mod, that nice Mr DWB offered me a wonderous glimpse into the world of luxury, ladies & life beyond being a mere member of DL. "you don't have to do anything, won't take up any time at all" was the gist of his sales patter. The reality... As if I haven't got enough to do, I now get constant e-mails from The Unknown Man* to clear spam & ban the spammer (which I can't do anyway). Yay! Promotion my arse! There are certain bonuses to be a mod though, I must admit though, which makes most of it worthwhile. * TUM, no offence, but if I see it when I'm posting, I'll delete it. I have 65,001 things to do before 2009, most of them DDP related, so if I'm not logged on when the spammer strikes, please just report to a mod who is. Otherwise, those 65,001 things get pushed further back and back. I've only just noticed you've been made OoO....

There's video at the link. This broad was a piece of work. Nice rack, though. Proof if needed that Simon Cowell is a homosexual if he couldn't factor that into his judgement...
